Nine Brice woke to find himself covered in crisp sheets, with his head on a hard pillow. The room was dimly lit, and when he shifted his body to one side, whatever bed he lay on creaked uncomfortably. The room was small. Apart from the bed, there was a desk and two chairs, and a storage unit. Brice saw two doors, one open to reveal a wash-basin, the other closed. Seated in one of the chairs was a figure. With the lighting this low, Brice couldn’t see who it was. “Good to see you awake, Mister Carras. How do you feel?” Brice recognised the voice, but couldn’t place it.
