Five Doctor Regas watched Brice like someone might watch a struggling creature, one that didn’t warrant help. There wasn’t any malice in his expression, but nor was there empathy. To the doctor, Brice was simply a subject. Lynet’s private suss wavered in Brice’s mind. She stepped round, away from his head. Like she didn’t want to be near him. Like he was infected. Doctor Regas tilted his head, still watching Brice. Brice pretended he could hear none of this, and closed his eyes in case they gave him away. He should admit to the doctor what was happening, but how could he admit to hearing private conversations? Doctor Regas might send Brice back up to Metis for a total overhaul.
