Meeting The Enemy ll

1002 Words
Thousands of Questions whirl in my mind as I stare at the most famous person in the werewolf community. Alejandro. No matter how much I turn the situation over in my head, it doesn't make sense. What was the enemy doing in our camp yesterday, and why did he never kill me? There was a chance he spared my life because of the mate bond, but the same couldn't be said for Dane. He was the enemy and nothing stood in the way of killing him. Hence, we are not with Dane now. I remember the words Alejandro uttered just before killing Dane; 'How dare you touch my mate! No one touches my mate and gets away with it!' What a lying piece of sh*t. If it weren't for the mate bond, I would hate him for sure, but right now my emotions are torn between resenting him and wanting to jump into bed with him. We approach the enemy as close as possible, mindful to keep a safe distance between us. "Now let's not waste time and get on with this. Seeing as you agreed to meet with us, I would assume you are ready to listen and reconsider your next course of action. Which, of course, is to retreat. A good decision it would be, too, considering you don't have the numbers to beat my warriors. My pack defeated yours not once but twice. Don't you think it is time to give up?" A chilling smirk spreads on Alejandro's face. "I agreed to meet with you not because I have any intention of retreating, but because I have a gift for you." I glance over at Titu's face to see he is as confused as the rest of us. A gift? From an enemy? That doesn't sound right. "What do you mean you are..." Titu's question is cut short by a loud thud. Something has been thrown down right in front of us by Santiago, coming to land right at his feet. When I locate the object, my eyes widen out of their sockets. It is Dane's head. What a creep! He had cut it off the time he asked me to go back to my tent. All to prove a point? One thing registers in my mind as I lift my unsteady gaze from the head to fix it on Santiago. The rumors about his ugliness may be unfounded, but his cruelty...now that's something that has always been underestimated. Titu's tries to appear calm and collected as he takes everything in, but I catch a whiff of his fear in the air. Clearly, he never expected this and he is shaken. Who wouldn't be? That's his best friend of years, one of his best warriors reduced to a head sitting in the sun with skin mottled in blue and purple patches. "You see why I agreed to meet you, your Royal Highness?" he mocks. "To give you an insight on how you and your warriors are going to end up. You are not going to defeat me." He pauses and then takes in a dramatic sniff in the air. "Is that fear I smell? No no no, do not be afraid, Commander. I will not harm you now. You think I would stoop that low? I promised there would not be any bloodshed during this little come together party, and I will keep my word." I hear a little sigh of relief from Titus and almost roll my eyes. Where is the bravery that has always been talked about? Even I appear to be braver than him because I am not shaken by the move the enemy has made. No doubt, his aim was to instill fear in the Alpha Prince/Commander, and it seems to be working. Titus seems to battle with his thoughts for a minute before he speaks. "Well, there seems to be nothing left to discuss. We will be on our way now," he draws in an angry breath, his eyes falling on the head of his friend once more. "Prepare to pay for that, you relentless son of a b*tch!" "Careful now, you don't want me changing my mind, do you? Your hundreds of warriors that you always hide behind aren't here to protect you." Titus is about to turn around when the man who spoke to him earlier about Dane's disappearance clears his throat. "Commander, you need to open your mind link." "Why? I don't want to be bothered with endless useless reports, I need to keep my mind free to work out how to defeat the enemy." "Just this once. The Alpha King has a message for your ears only." Curiosity compels me to join in on their conversation when they switch to mind link. "The Alpha King has asked me to relay this to you. One of our soldiers is a girl, he says. He says to put her in the Frontline as punishment for what she has done. No girl has ever fought a battle before." My heart beats frantically in my chest. They've found out about what I did. Did my dad rat me out to the Alpha King? Why on earth would he do that if he loves me? Now the Alpha King actively wants me dead. "A girl?" The mind link conversation continues. "I would have noticed a girl among the warriors, wouldn't I?" "Not if she's disguised as a boy." The Alpha Prince scans the four of us when he hears this, as though expecting to spot the girl right away. "If I catch her, I will kill her myself! Let's go back and find this girl!" He closes the mind link and looks at the enemy, still standing there watching us, as though enjoying the commotion we seem to be in. "See you at the battle field, Santiago. I've tried to warn you but..." "I thought we were done with the threats," Santiago rolls his eyes. "You are free to go. But the small guy remains!"
