#11 The Handsome

"She is right," the man repeated when neither of them responded. "What? Oh- she is? I mean, who is it?" Sara stuttered. Her eyes popped out, and her body stiffened. She felt like a blast of energy burst behind him, and then his body emitted light. He looked like a fallen angel in her eyes. And suddenly, wings popped out from his back as soon as he smiled. Was it love at first sight? She wondered. She kept drooling at him with dreamy eyes. "Who are you?" Elise stepped ahead and asked. She found him handsome, but he did not intrigue her. She was rather busy trying to recollect her memories, to figure out where she had seen him. The man seemed familiar despite her meeting him for the first time. "Apologies for not introducing myself earlier. I am Drake, secretary of Mr. Miller," Drake introduced, smiling ear to ear. "Have we met before?" Elise pondered. Even after his introduction, he did not ring a bell to where she had seen him. "Yes, I was there at the pub. I was the one who took care of Miss Sara that night." Drake agreed. Sara was excited to hear that Drake had taken care of her. But it soon evaporated when she realized it wasn't a night she would like him to remember. She cursed herself for being so drunk that night that she didn't even remember that perfect man. How could she live? And that night, she was completely wasted. Did she lose all her chances with the man of her dreams? Sara kept looking at him, transfixed. His face was as bright as the sun and as handsome as the moon. The perfect smile on his face would never leave. He neatly combed his hair to one side, giving a flawless view of his face. His square-shaped jaws made him look handsome from every angle. "Yes, you were there!" Elise recollected, turning to Sara to tell her something about that night. But it baffled her to see how her friend was drooling at Drake. It was like she had lost her senses. How could she openly glare at someone like that, no matter how handsome they were? "Sara," Elise called her friend. She didn't want Drake to notice Sara devouring him through her eyes. It would be so awkward, especially if she had a rough idea that they would see each other frequently. "Yes?" Sara responded unmindfully. Elise grunted, patting Sara to make her realize the delicacy of the situation. But she didn't bother to notice. Her eyes were fixated on Drake while her heart was thumping so loud that she felt like it would fall out of her chest. She was in love with that man. Drake chuckled at Sara's reaction. He thought she was cute. "I am sorry. Sara isn't like this. But I don't know why she is behaving like that." Elise apologized, feeling terrible. "It isn't the first time." Drake chuckled, remembering their ride back home. Sara told him continually how she had thought Nolan was handsome until she saw him. She would stare at her for no reason and then blush, hiding her face with her hands. And then again, she would openly glare at him until she felt shy. He had found it to be cute. "You are so handsome!" Sara gasped. "What?" Drake asked, amused. It startled him, but pleasantly, to see Sara react like that. Sara realized she had made a blunder the second Sara finished her sentence. She was thinking too loudly. She closed her eyes and turned back to avoid Drake's questioning yet mischievous eyes. They felt so enticing and inviting to her. Elise shifted her gaze to Sara in bewilderment. She was afraid to know more details of what Sara did that night, so she decided to avoid it for her good. "You said she was right. What do you mean?" Elise quickly changed the topic, feeling the need to stop that awkward conversation. It would be better if Sara and Drake continued that conversation alone. "Mr. Miller would like to be your boyfriend," Drake replied with big bright eyes, a broad smile, and a positive demeanor as if it was the most obvious thing to say. However, it left the ladies startled. Sara was bewildered and yet excited. She knew that something was brewing between them. The way Nolan looked at Elise and acted protective of her was not just some random concern for anyone. He looked at her like she was some treasure. He was unnecessarily possessive and protective of her. But the one who was left flabbergasted was Elise. Her jaw hung open, and her heart pounded in her chest. She felt like the ground slipped away below her feet. Maybe it was imagination. It was one thing to talk about in private. But send his secretary for that? Why? As if reading Elise's mind, Drake continued. "No- Mr. Miller wanted to tell this himself. But since he is away on some business, he asked me to pass on the message the minute you find out about the rumor." "Wah! How impressive! Elise, trust me. Consider this offer. Burn Mike!" Sara was smiling like a child. She was super excited that the man of her dreams was on the same side. "Why don't you become his girlfriend, then?" Elise scoffed, walking away. She didn't want to stand there and objectify her love life. It pissed her off that Nolan did something like that. She kept ranting and cursing under her breath, marching toward the hotel. It was almost her shift time. Sara puffed with annoyance. She had researched Nolan. She has doubts about her friend getting hurt again. So, she couldn't force Elise much. However, she could also tell the difference. He didn't sigh away from showing his concern or affection. He even fought with hooligans for her. Also, he had no intention of hiding it from others. She felt conflicted. Should she not force Elise to rush into it? In the end, she wanted to protect her friend. "Your friend seems to be rigid. I think I see why Nolan likes her. I had my doubts." Drake expressed, looking at Elise's retreating figure. He was paying attention to everything she was saying. "Don't judge her," Sara said nonchalantly. She was worried about Elise. It won't be easy to deal with the rumors despite what they did in the washroom. There was a high probability that it would backfire. "I have to." Drake chuckled, making Sara turn her face to him. His perfect face now seemed irritating to her. She wasn't sure why everyone was so quick to draw conclusions about Elise. "Shouldn't your boss's love life be none of your interest? Or are you that kind of secretary who reports to others, too?" Sara scorned, glaring at him. Her hands were tucked against her chest. She was no longer the timid girl who was drooling at him. Drake shifted his attention to Sara, amused by the sudden change in her attitude. "What are you glaring about, now?" Sara grunted. Drake looked back to see if she was speaking to someone else, baffled by her change. When he didn't see anyone, he wondered if she had a split personality. She was different when he took her home last time, a few moments ago, and now. "Excuse me!" Drake retorted. "Are you supposed to talk like that with your boss's secretary?" Sara had forgotten in her anger that she was a mere front office manager, while Drake was Nolan's secretary. She immediately relaxed her stiff body, looking down. She played with her fingers, wondering what to say. Drake was surprised. He looked at her in awe. The woman changed her behavior like a chameleon. "However, you shouldn't judge the woman your boss is interested in. I am her best friend." Sara said, fumbling, stuttering, and looking everywhere except at Drake. Drake's jaw hung out, as he gaped at her in awe. Was she for real? In that timid, low voice, was she threatening him? With big wide eyes, he looked at her in stupefaction, unable to formulate words. She was no ordinary woman. When Sara didn't hear any response from Drake, she looked at him. As soon as their eyes met, she felt a flutter in her heart. It was thumping against her will. She looked away immediately. Right then, she was fighting for her friend. "Let me know what your friend decided." Drake didn't want to push the conversation further. He was feeling unsettled by Sara. She sometimes amused him with her antics and, other times, she made him angry. She had a profound effect that lasted on him. He wasn't used to feeling restless around anyone. When Sara didn't reply, pondering over something, he decided to leave. He had only taken a few steps when she called him. It startled him. "Your number?" Sara asked. She looked at him with wide eyes, a curious face, and a stiffened body. "What?" Drake asked, surprised. He gaped at her. Why was she asking for his number now? What does she want? She looked at her fidgeting fingers, wondering if she liked him or disliked him. "I mean, how else I am supposed to inform you of her decision?" Sara forced a smile, feeling nervous and rattled. Her heart was pounding. Undoubtedly, she felt drawn to him despite knowing that he was out of her league. But maybe she could get lucky, like Elise. Sara knew she was beautiful. She would often get complimented for her looks. She had dated a fair share of men and everyone had appreciated her looks. There was a reason she was the front office manager. She had a round, bubbly face with big eyes. Her slender yet perfectly shaped body made her look like a doll. But her personality was the opposite of that. It was the problem. Not everyone could handle an extremely ambitious, aggressive, and straightforward woman. Most men approached her expecting her to be docile in that body while she was a feisty one. "Yeah, right!" Drake coughed. He was worried he would have been caught staring at her. The woman standing before her had a rainbow personality. And she didn't shy away from showing her love, enthusiasm, eagerness, anger, or viewpoint. She was an interesting yet beautiful character. Drake took out his business card and handed it to Sara. He didn't want to stay there any longer. The woman brought out things in him that bothered him. Sara pouted, looking at his retreating figure. Once he vanished behind a big tree trunk, she looked at the business card. Alas! Her eyes goggled when she read the name. She looked in the direction Drake was walking. But he had already left. She swallowed hard in shock and nervousness. The business card fell from her hand as she became restless, even trembling a little. "Damned!" she murmured under her breath, cursing her fate, chasing the card that was flying away. When finally she got hold of it, she sighed in helplessness, sitting on the grass bed, looking at the bright sky. She flicked her eyes, trying to adjust the light. She gasped hopelessly, looking back at the card again. "Drake Miller Secretary of CEO Pristine Group of Hotels" Sara was afraid it wasn't a mere coincidence that his surname was Miller. While looking for news about Nolan on the internet on her way to the hotel after she found that Elise had left, she discovered that Nolan's younger brother had returned from abroad. She wasn't sure why someone of his stature would settle for Nolan's secretary. But she was afraid that was the case. Sara opened her phone to see if Nolan's brother's name was Drake, by any chance. It was a little hard to find since it seemed like he was away, studying somewhere else for a very long time. But finally, he found it, collapsing to the ground. Indeed, it was Drake. The two brothers were posing for a still. Sara took deep breaths, trying to calm herself. But it didn't even last for a few seconds. She began wailing about her misfortune. Was she going to get fired? What was the need to threaten him? Even then, he was much higher up, Nolan's secretary. And what about all that drooling? What if she made him uncomfortable? Was it her fault that he was so handsome? What was she supposed to do? Should she plead with Elise to help her? Sara kept fumbling with this and that, feeling worried and helpless. She cursed a little more, feeling vexed. It was then she received a text. It was from an unfamiliar number. "You are selected for the three-day VIP facilitation team for the upcoming event." Sara gasped. She had never been selected for that elite team before. They would be staying in the hotel for a week at least, ensuring the event was successful. They would be put in different teams and have to ensure that everything was carried out to perfection. It was a demanding task. But it ensured quicker promotions and had many advantages. Even though the work becomes hectic, on the bright side, they get paid three times more and all the tips they receive are sometimes more than their monthly salary. Sara wondered if it was her luck or something fishy!
