Sky
“I’m sorry, but your name doesn’t ring a bell.” I told the woman on the phone for the nth time. Rubbing my forehead with my thumb and point finger, I couldn’t help, but sigh in frustration.
I couldn’t focus on my work as I sat here by the desk in my office. I was still feeling a slight headache from hangover last night. I went to the bar on my own, got drunk, find a cute girl and brought her to a room. The rest was history.
And this girl that I was talking to was the probably the one that I banged last night. She was calling me baby! Like hell, I wanted to be called by that, unless you were my girl.
“Baby…”
My eyes widened again, almost gagging at her annoying voice. She sounded like a horny kitty. Dang it. I had to stop her. She sounded like a freaking nightmare!
“Look.” I took a deep breath. The headache was getting worse and I just wanted to finish my work so I could go out and have dinner already. “I had no time for this. I don’t know who you are and I don’t want to know. Don’t you dare call me again. Bye!” I slammed my phone down.
How the f*ck did she even get my number?!
Women these days.
It wasn’t even half to why was I feeling so angry, mad, frustrated today. I couldn’t focus for Pete’s sake. I couldn’t get what happened this morning out of my head. I even felt crying.
The moment I felt the crash while I was sitting there in my precious Lambo, my heart stopped pumping blood and it just broke down into pieces. My body felt so numb that I didn’t get to get out of the car and grab the bastard who bumped into my car by the collar and beat him up to pulp with no bit of mercy. I wanted to kill him in the middle of the busy road.
I couldn’t even get the plate number of the white beat up Toyota Corolla who drove past me so freaking fast. I was fuming with anger, but that bastard was so fast and furious. I had the CCTV cameras around viewed so I could catch him and make him pay for what he had done. Just so he wait.
I had to call my Mom’s driver and ask for a favor to send my Lambo to the repair shop. I loved Yellow so much. Yup, I named my cars by their colors. With no other choice, I took a taxi to work.
A huge sigh escaped from me. It was Monday, but I wasn’t feeling it at all. I felt so unproductive.
“Toughen up, Sky. Yellow will be fine.” I muttered to myself, putting my head in my hands.
I looked up at the clock before me on the wall. It was ten minutes before eight in the evening. Not in the mood to work on my laptop at all, I shut it down, took my jacket from my chair, put my phone in my slacks pocket and walked out of my office. I didn’t have a freaking Secretary to do things for me.
I was confident that I could work on my own.
I am Skyler Butler or just SKY, the CEO of Butler Enterprises.
Twenty-seven years old. Hot and sexy. Single and yummy. Yes, that’s me. SKY.
City lights greeted me that moment I stepped out of the company. I started walking to my right. I had a restaurant there, which was just opened a month ago. I wasn’t there during the grand opening. I named it in my grandmother’s name, Elle Butler. It was a gift from me for her. In her age, she still wanted to work, even if I already told I could hire a manager. She was a stubborn grandma. She wanted to be boss and the manager.
I finally reached the restaurant, stepping through the doors and went to find a table at the corner. I was surprised it was still opened. There were two employees left, the bartender and a waitress. I didn’t have any idea who they were. When I walked in, the cashier had a name tag, but I couldn’t make it out from afar. The waitress on the other hand, was sitting on a bar stool at the bar. She had her back to me.
Sexy. I smirked, glancing shortly at her curvy body.
I sat there and realized that I was the only customer. Were they about to close? Nevertheless, I waited there for one reason. I wanted to know who the waitress was.
I was a bit annoyed because it seemed like they were not going to do anything.
Aren’t she going to approach me at least? I thought.
I wanted to twist in my seat and look at her.
Patience, I told myself. She would come to you.
I could hear their quiet voices. Were they debating who should come to me?
It has to be the waitress. I’m sure.
And I was right.
My sweet words were ready to sway here. I was so ready to make her feel good until she stopped beside me and spoke. “Good evening, Sir. I’m so sorry, but we’re clo-“
For the second time today, my heart stopped breathing again.
That voice. That very familiar sweet voice that still managed to send shivers to my spine. It was still the same that ruined my sanity before. Heck, I was still insane about her. Everything about her, I missed.
F*ck.
One hand forming into a fist, I slowly looked up and I swore I forgot how to breathe anymore. Was it a gasp from me? Shocked. Surprised. Happy. Confused. I felt mixed emotions as I stared her face, wide-eyed. I still couldn’t believe it.
Is this really happening?
I studied her very carefully, not blinking. It was really her, just staring at me blankly like she wasn’t surprised or shocked. She looked so freaking calm while I was about to freak out. It was really unfair because I felt like I was about to pass out any minute.
My beautiful gem. Sapphire.
That was when spoke again. “Mr. Butler.”
Yes, she was still my gem. My only treasure, but she didn’t know that. And if only she knew.
And then she ran.
What just happened?
When I finally got out of my shocked state, I was so fast to stand up and faced the direction to where she had ran to. The bartender with Allison on her name tag looked at me to the door where my gem just passed through and then back at me. Her mouth opened, ready to say something, but I ignored her, running after Sapphire.
I eagerly turned the knob of the door and was so happy when I realized she didn’t lock it. It was the locker room.
“What are you doing here?”
I jumped, startled at her voice as she slammed the door of her locker. Thank God, I didn’t squeak. Heck that would be so embarrassing. I took a deep breath and locked the door behind me, not before hearing Allison shouting ‘Hey!’ at me. I swallowed, opened my mouth and closed it back again.
Damn it. What should I say?
That was so unusual of me to get silent around a girl. I am Skyler Butler for Pete’s sake. I could sway girls with just a few sweet words. This was so bizarre. So unlikely.
“We were just about to call it a day and hang on the ‘Closed’ Sign. I suggest you just go home and cook yourself dinner.” She confidently faced me, putting her had on her hip.
Sexy. Very sexy.
Snap out of it, Sky.
I clenched my jaw and looked away. It was only the two of us in this narrow locker room. I had to calm myself down and erase the sinful thoughts in my mind. They were so sinful that I thought of pushing her back against her locker, smash and mold my rock hard body against her soft one as I slowly kiss her and unbutton-
F*ck. I stop right there. I’m having a freaking boner.
She was so distracting. I couldn’t keep focus. Two buttons of her blouse are popped open, letting me see a bit of her sexy cleavage. I wanted to give them a sensual massage. Tucked under her damn tight skirt, her shirt was showing off all her perfect curves. I wanted to grab those hips so bad, lift her up and put wrap her legs around my body.
My jaw hardened. I had to turn around to adjust myself in my pants. It hurt already. I could hear her making a boastful noise behind me.
“We really have to close the restaurant now, Sir. If you excuse me.”
Sir?
“Wait!” In reflex, my hand was so quick to hold the doorknob, stopping her from opening the door. I blocked her way, leaning my back against the door. “Just wait.” I wasn’t pleading, but I was hoping she could see through my eyes that I was so eager and serious that I wanted to talk to her.
“Sir-“
“Don’t call me that.”
She blinked. “Mr. But-“
“Call me Sky.” I stared right into her eyes, gazing through her and not at her. Through her.
Did I just say that?
She became silent for a few seconds before she blinked and said, “Look, we really have to close this restaurant for today and I still have to go back to my family.”
“Family? You’re staying with your Dad?”
“No.” She started rubbing her temples and uttering words so softly that I couldn’t clearly hear.
“Oh. Sorry, I didn’t know you’re married. Your husband and kids are probably waiting for you right now.” I let out a nervous laugh. It was suddenly awkward and the air was so tensed.
I just stopped laughing when I realized she was looking at me, just looking at me. We locked eyes. There was something in hers that I couldn’t decipher. They were holding so many emotions, but I couldn’t identify. I couldn’t read her. She looked so real yet so passive. She was already showing me everything, but I was so dumb to know what it was.
And then her lips twitched up into a small smile. “It’s okay. You didn’t know.”
“Yeah. I didn’t know. Congratulations. I’m happy for you.”
Like hell, I was.
She smiled again. She looked really happy, but my heart was crumbling down into pieces. I was so affected and I couldn’t deny it. There was a part of me that felt glad for her because finally she was so happy. But, that part was only one percent. Selfish, I was.
I wished she was mine. I wished things were easier before. I wished I was different. I wished I valued her more.
Regrets indeed come in the end.
So, I opened the door, set aside myself and let her pass through. I followed suit, closing the door behind me. The bartender was pacing around when we got out. She just looked up when she heard the door closed.
“Saph!” She hissed loudly.
Sapphire just smiled at her, shutting her up. “Nothing happened. I’m good.”
Nothing happened?
They talked, I didn’t have the energy to eavesdrop anymore. My chest felt so heavy because of the things that she told me inside the locker room just a while ago. I hated to admit it, but it was completely bothering me. I couldn’t be at ease. I had to lower my pride in this. I was hurt. Yes, I was.
“Sir?”
“Huh?” I looked up.
“Can you go now?” Damn her voice.
“Oh.”
“Right. Sorry about that. Yes, I’ll go now.”
I started walking towards the exit and finally out of the room.
I just got kicked out of my own restaurant. Yup.
