Micki walked into the bar and couldn’t believe how busy it was, already, at four o’clock. She’d arrived an hour ahead of her scheduled shift in the hopes of doing the schedule for the employees’ next pay period, but, from the looks of it, she was going to need to step either behind the bar or start waiting tables. She shouldn’t have been surprised, though, she knew; it was just after the new year, and, ever since Christmas, the bar had been packed nearly every night. Holiday parties that lingered into January, New Year’s Eve celebration, and everyone scrambling to get a date for Valentine’s day made it a busy day in bar country. At the thought of Valentine’s Day, Micki felt a pang of regret in her stomach, but she brushed it off quickly. No time for that! sh
