Chapter Three: A Chance for PassionAt work, Cindy spent most of her day rehearsing the conversation with her boss. She had to find a subtle way to deliver the bad news of Roy’s cheating and the good news of the crush she’d been nursing for as long as they’d known each other. She avoided contact with Charlotte until it was five, nearly time to go home. Then, with the office empty except for the two of them, she inched toward Charlotte’s door and gave the door a nervous knock.
“Come on in!” her boss yelled.
The door swung open. Charlotte was buried in paperwork, but smiling just the same. “Hey, honey! You been awfully quiet today.”
“Just really busy, that’s all. In fact, I can see that you’re kind of swamped with work, so maybe we should have this talk some other time –“
