Chapter 7

1405 Words
Even though Matthew could not spend the night at my house, he was always there. Before he went home to his wife, we would spend countless hours together, sharing stories and laughing until our stomachs hurt. Matthew's presence brought a sense of comfort and joy to every moment we spent together, making it difficult to say goodbye when the time came for him to leave. It was like we were falling in love, and the more we spent time together, the more I wanted Matthew for myself. I would lie if I said I never felt jealous when Winter called and asked him to come home , knowing that it meant our time together was coming to an end. I couldn't help but wish that he would choose to stay with me instead, as our connection grew stronger with each passing day. I wanted to feel bad about winter, but before you judge me, try spending countless nights alone in your bed without the warmth of someone's touch. The longing for Matthew's presence intensified as our bond deepened, making it harder to ignore the ache in my heart when Winter interrupted our precious moments. Despite my guilt, the emptiness of sleepless nights without the comfort of another's embrace made it difficult to sympathize with Winter's calls. 'Good morning', Ms. Simmonds, I heard a familiar voice call out as I walked into the office building. I turned around to come face to face with the wife of the man I was now sleeping with every chance I got, and to tell you the truth, part of me felt triumph over this woman. She looked at me with a mix of surprise and suspicion but quickly composed herself. I couldn't help but wonder if she had any inkling of our secret affair or if she was simply being polite. 'Hi, Mrs. Adams, how are you doing", I greeted her, trying my best to hide any signs of guilt or discomfort. She responded with a forced smile and a polite, "I'm doing well, thank you." However, there was a flicker of something in her eyes that made me question whether she truly believed my casual demeanor. I asked if she was there to see Mr. Adams, but she smiled and said, No, he is working at night now, so he spends the day doing god knows what. I knew that was a lie because the only work Matthew was doing at night was sexing me up. I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy and betrayal, knowing that she was unaware of our secret affair. I quickly changed the subject, hoping to distract her from any further suspicion. 'So, what brings you here, Mrs. Adams? 'So, what brings you here, Mrs. Adams?' I asked, trying to sound casual despite the turmoil inside me. She hesitated for a moment before responding, 'I actually came to drop off some paperwork for Matthew." He's been so busy lately, I thought I'd save him the trip.' As she handed me the envelope, I couldn't help but wonder if she had any inkling of what was really going on between her husband and me. I took the envelope and turned to walk away when Winter asked to have coffee in my office. My heart sank as I knew that having coffee in winter would only further complicate the situation. Despite my inner turmoil, I agreed and led her into my office, hoping to find a way to navigate this delicate situation without causing any more harm. 'You know Nichole, Mathew and I have been married sixteen-nine years, been together sixteen'. She chuckled while taking a sip of her coffee. I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as she mentioned their long-lasting relationship. It made me question if Matthew and I would ever have a future. " I'm glad you two have such a strong bond," I replied, trying to hide my own insecurities. " Without warning, Winter blurted out, Matthew is cheating again. She said it so calmly, I felt I was about to lose my sh*t. My mind kept going at 100 miles an hour. Does Winter know I'm the other woman in her relationship? I desperately tried to maintain my composure, but the weight of Winter's revelation crushed me. The fear of being exposed by the other woman gnawed at my conscience, leaving me paralyzed with guilt and anxiety. I wondered how long I could keep up this charade before everything unraveled. How did you know? I said, walking over to her. I realized she had started crying and offered her a napkin. As I handed her the napkin, Winter looked up at me with tear-filled eyes. "I found the messages," she whispered, her voice trembling. The realization hit me like a ton of bricks—she had discovered our secret affair. My heart sank as I braced myself for the consequences of my actions, unsure of how to navigate this delicate situation without causing further pain. There was dead silence, and the air was filled with so much tension. ' He even saved the w***e's number as 'My love'. Winter's hands shook as she clutched the napkin tightly, her gaze fixed on the damning evidence. I struggled to find the right words to explain myself, desperately hoping for a chance at redemption. The weight of my betrayal hung heavy in the room. I felt this was it for me; she was either going to beat my ass or cause a big scene. 'I need your help, Nichole'. "Me," I replied, looking up at her surprise washed over my face. But I was relieved that Winter didn't know the other woman was me. 'Yeah, sure, as long as it is in my reach, I will help you, Winter. I replied, my voice trembling. Winter nodded, her expression softening slightly. "Thank you," she said quietly. "I know I can trust you." Winter and I talked all morning after that; we had to drink two cups of coffee each. She asked me to look out for Matthew whenever he was in the office, and I must admit I was laughing inside. She was asking the woman who was sleeping with her husband behind her back to look out for him. Well, you didn't need to tell me twice, Winter. I was determined to keep up the facade and agreed to help her without hesitation. As we continued our conversation, Winter shared her fears and insecurities, allowing me to see a vulnerable side of her that I hadn't witnessed before. After Nichole left, I wasted no time dialing Matthew's number, my heart racing at every ring the line made , hoping he would answer. The anticipation grew with each passing second, and I couldn't help but wonder if he knew about Winter's suspicions. Matthew's voice finally came on the phone, sounding slightly groggy. I quickly explained the situation and Winter's concerns, hoping he could shed some light on the matter. As he listened attentively, I sensed a hint of surprise in his voice: 'Mathew, how could you be so carefree as to leave your phone carelessly for Winter to see our messages? What would have happened if she had found out it was me? Matthew's grogginess seemed to dissipate as he processed my words. He apologized profusely, realizing the gravity of the situation. It became clear that he had underestimated Winter's curiosity and the potential consequences of his carelessness. " Don't worry, Nichole, I will sort all this out'. Matthew's determination to fix the situation reassured me, but I couldn't help but feel a pang of worry. Winter was known for her unpredictability, and if she had discovered our messages, it could have led to disastrous consequences for both of us. I hoped that Matthew's promise to handle it would be enough. 'Am I seeing you later? Matthew asked with seduction in his voice. I hesitated for a moment, torn between my desire to see him and the fear of Winter finding out. Eventually, I replied, "You better have some good idea on how you're going to make this up to me, considering the situation." Matthew smirked, his eyes filled with mischief. "Oh, trust me," he whispered, "I have a plan that will make it all worth it." The anticipation in his voice sent shivers down my spine, and I couldn't help but wonder what he had in store for me.
