I have no idea how long I've been asleep. All I know is that I'm in some extreme pain.
My entire body feels like it's been crushed. I'm honestly not sure how I'm still alive right now. Getting hit by a car at that speed should have instantly killed me. That's not even mentioning all the blood I lost to the concrete.
Comprehending how all of this is possible is an impossible task. Maybe I am dead. The car crash sent me into the afterlife, and I am just waking up to my new reality. Although I have got to admit, I thought that after you die, you would be pain free. I can hear someone talking in the background, so that means I either did not die or death is more like a book than I thought.
Gradually I lift my eye lids and meet a pair of ice blue eyes that are only inches from my own. I flinch back from the close proximity, and immediately regret it. Letting out a hiss of pain I glare at the cause of it all.
"Glaring at your savior. Probably not the best way to show your appreciation, angel." Sol chides.
"Savior!? Angel!? What have you been smoking? You are the reason I'm in here. You hit me with your car. And Angel? Really? That seriously makes zero sense." I meant this to come out a scream, but sadly I could barely manage a whisper.
"Well if you wouldn't have run out in the road right in front of me, then I wouldn't have hit you. So really, in retrospect, this is all your fault." He concludes.
I can't help but stare at him, astonished.
"Are you being for real right now? It wasn't my fault at all! It was those dumb animals! If they hadn't have chased me, then I wouldn't have run out into the street." I exclaimed a little breathless.
Sol's entire body went rigid. "What animals?" He growled.
His reaction honestly scares the hell out of me. He's so angry that I can feel it roll off him in waves. His pupil is completely gone again, and he's siting so stiffly that I can't even see him breathing.
"I.... I...." I can't even answer him properly without stuttering, he's that scary.
Sol leans back over the bed until his face is inches away from my own. "This is very important, Adellyna. I need you to tell me which animals were chasing you."
I gulp loud enough for the whole room to hear and attempt to answer him. "Umm, t-they were w-wild dogs and s-p.. parrows."
That was so supremely pathetic that I almost face palm myself. I am usually not scared of him, but when he is mad it's an entirely different story.
"s**t. They know. That's Aphrodite's and Ares' sacred animals." He says to Herman and Deon. I'm not sure where Anna is, but I'd really like to know.
"We need to talk to the oracles and see if they know anything. I honestly didn't believe Artemis about her until I saw it for myself." Herman said.
Even though I am really curious on what he is talking about I know it is best if I stay quiet. I'll get a lot more information this way. I have my suspicions that if I out right ask, they'll completely ignore me and take their conversation elsewhere.
"Yeah, I know. I honestly didn't think it possible. I mean for that to happen she'd have to possess a human body and get impregnated. What I don't understand is how she communicated with her father. Unless she was among the fallen." Sol said.
"I don't know. This is unheard of. The last time they bred with humans God wiped out all the children. I just don't get how this has stayed under the radar for this long." Deon responded.
"A fallen though? That would be nearly impossible. Nobody knows where the fallen have hidden themselves. They only come out once every thousand years or so. Do you think it's possible they have an oracle, and heard the prophecy?" Herman asked.
"That is impossible. The five are already known, and they all pledged their allegiance to me. There cannot be a sixth. There is one for the past, one for the present, one for the future, one that can see and communicate with God, and one that can talk to spirits. What would a sixth one be able to do? Plus, all the oracles are mine. They all are under my jurisdiction." Sol says.
"I don't know, but if they do have one then we all better prepare for a war. You know they've been trying to take over the twelve for decades." Deon commented.
"What are you guys talking about?" My hand flew to cover my mouth the moment those words escaped, but it was too late. Their heads turned to me within a nano second.
"None of your business." Sol sneered.
"Really? I'd say it is my business considering it must involve me somehow. Otherwise I'm sure you would've left me for dead on the side of the road." I return.
"Or maybe I just felt bad for hitting you, so I thought I'd be nice." He says with an innocent look.
I scoff, "please, and I'm the tooth fairy."
"Hold up you two. I think we should tell her Sol. She does deserve to know. It's completely about her after all." Deon interrupted.
"It may be about her, but I don't want her getting involved. She'll be too much.... baggage." Sol glared at me.
"Excuse me! Who do you think you're calling baggage?" I ask while sitting up. It might be painful as hell, but I can't argue with him while laying down. It feels like he's got an unfair advantage.
Sol is immediately at my side pushing me back down. "You, you i***t. You need to lie down. You moving is only hurting yourself farther."
"I'm not baggage." I air quote.
"You are. Do you know how defend yourself?" He asks.
"Err, not really." I sheepishly answer.
"Do you know how to wield a sword?" He says.
"Um, no. In my defense though, nobody uses swords anymore when guns are faster and more effective." I add to make myself look a little better.
"Alright then, do you know how to shoot?" He asks with a raised brow like he already knows my answer.
"Mmmm, no." I mumble knowing I walked myself right into that one.
"Okay, then you're baggage. Meaning that somebody is going to have to remain by your side to babysit and protect you, and I'm going to need everyone I can get that can fight on my side." He explains.
"What exactly is it that I need protected from?" I ask confused.
They all the exchange a knowing look before Sol responds.
"You need protected from the Gods and the fallen." He mutters.
I am trying really hard not laugh. Seriously, what is up with this place and the Gods! I don't even know what the fallen are but knowing them it's probably angels or something dumb like that. "And why do I need protected from the Gods and the fallen?"
Again, they exchange glances before he answers. "Because you're a Nephilim."
