CHAPTER 13

LAWRENCE couldn’t help himself from chuckling because of how adorable his mate was. Pagkatapos niyang sabihin kay Blythe ang tungkol sa ‘mate’, iniwan na niya ito sa kwarto. Then he distances himself from Blythe on the following days. The bond was pulling him toward his mate and he didn’t want to do anything inappropriate to her, so, it was better if he distanced himself. It’s safer this way. Ayaw niyang maging hindi ito komportable sa kaniya. He wanted to tease her because Blythe was cute when blushing, but opted not to. Though they are mates, and he has all the rights to claim her, Blythe is not yet at the right age and she isn’t ready. At isa pa hindi pa siya masyadong kilala ng mate niya.

He took a deep breath. This will be a long journey for him to get his mate’s trust.

“Your Majesty,” Cade bowed when he entered the Alpha King’s office.

“Sit.” Iminuwestra ni Lawrence upuan sa harapan ng kaniyang lamesa.

“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Cade responded as he took his seat.

Lawrence closed the folder he was reading. “May nalaman ka ba tungkol sa kapatid ni Blythe?” tanong niya.

“Your Majesty, Lady Blythe’s sister is with my brother.”

“Huh? Your brother?” Nagtaka si Lawrence.

“It was my brother who saved her. I had already spoken with her and told me not to tell Lady Blythe where she was. It’s just enough to tell Lady Blythe that she is alive.”

Napatango si Lawrence. “I will personally tell Blythe about her sister. But where is Blythe’s sister?”

Cade smiled. “At my brother’s house. Mate thing.”

“Oh. That’s good. Your brother will finally taste the will of love.” Lawrence chuckled. “Good for him.” Aniya.

Cade clicked his tongue. “It’s not good for me, Your Majesty.” Pag-iling niya. “My brother seemed to feel the bond, but he was jealous of me. He even glared at me when I was just talking to Miss Brianna. Hindi naman niya ‘yon ginagawa dati sa akin.”

Hindi napigilan si Lawrence ang sarili na matawa dahil sa sinabi ni Cade. “You deserved it. You always bully him when you are in the mood. Now, that he will be tied to a werewolf, be careful.”

Napabuga lamang ng hangin si Cade. “Forget about my brother, Your Majesty. How about you? How are you and Lady Blythe? Are you two getting along with each other? She’s been here for nearly two weeks.”

Si Lawrence naman ang napabuga ng hangin saka umiling. He looked flatly at Cade. “Kung makapagsalita ka naman parang ang daling mangyari na magkalapit kami kaagad.”

Cade just chuckled.

“She asked about the mate thing.”

“And?” Cade asked impatiently.

“And I told her the truth.” Lawrence sighed. “The main thing is she’s not yet at the legal age. She’s still a minor.”

“Any plan, Your Majesty?” Cade asked.

“Pamper her until she trusts me. I could feel it. Though she talked to me, I could feel that she was wary of me like I was a feral animal who would devour her when she’s asleep.” Sabi ni Lawrence saka napailing na lang.

“And are you not, Your Majesty?” Cade asked and grinned.

Binato bigla ni Lawrence si Cade ng hawak niyang ballpen. “Get out!” he hissed.

Cade chuckled. Tumayo siya. “I have things to do, Your Majesty. May I ask for your permission to leave?”

Tumango lang si Lawrence.

Cade grinned. “Good luck for wooing the future queen,” he cheered. “Go for it!” then he left.

Napailing na lang si Lawrence. Sighing, he stood up from his seat and looked outside from the huge window in his office. His mate came into his mind.

“Blythe…”

As if they had a connection, he saw Blythe walking towards the playground where the kids were playing. Nakasunod naman kay Blythe si Ezra. Ezra stands a few meters away from Blythe. Pakiramdam ni Lawrence ay namamalikmata siya habang nakatingin sa mate niya. Blythe was smiling as she talked with the kids. With his sharp vision, he could see it. Blythe was smiling genuinely, and she never smiled at him like that. Now he feels jealous of those kids.

Sinuway ni Lawrence ang sarili saka pinagmasdan ang mate niya. Naramdaman yata nito ang tingin niya rito kaya tumingin rito sa kinaroroonan niya. He smiled at her, but Blythe avoided her gazing at him. And acted as if he didn’t exist.

Lawrence sighed. Until now, he didn’t know the origin of his mate. Ayaw niyang magtanong dahil baka maging hindi ito komportable. He knew that every person had his secret and, whatever his mate's secret was, he would respect it. Kahit pa hindi nito sabihin sa kaniya kung sino. Blythe is his mate, chosen by the Moon Goddess to be his queen. He would accept her whoever she might be.

‘Your Majesty, the president of the university arrived.’ Cade informed him through the mindlink.

‘Let him in.’

‘Yes, Your Majesty.’

Hindi umalis si Lawrence sa kinatatayuan at nanatili sa tapat ng malaking bintana. He enjoyed watching Blythe playing with the kids. And she was gentle while playing with them.

A few minutes later, he felt the presence of his Beta and the University President at the door of his private office. And then Cade knocked.

“Come in,” he said while going back to sit on his swivel chair.

The door opened.

“Alpha King.” Mr. Dawson, a werewolf, belongs to the Night Moon Pack, and is the president of the university owned by the Everson Family.

Tumango si Lawrence. “Have a set, Mr. Dawson.” Aniya. Then he looked at Cade, “Prepare some tea for Mr. Dawson.”

Yumukod si Cade at lumabas. Pagbalik nito ay may dala na itong tsaa. He poured the tea cups and gave it to the Alpha King and Mr. Dawson.

“Your Majesty, you summoned me into the palace. What’s the matter?”

Tumikhim si Lawrence. “I want to enroll someone, but it’s nearly the end of the first semester. Mr. Dawson, will you do me a favor?”

Bahagyang natigilan si Mr. Dawson. The Alpha King never asks a favor. Ito ang unang beses na humiling ito ng pabor sa kaniya. Then it must be serious.

“Your Majesty?”

“Though the Everson Family owned the University, you are the president and I know how strict you are, and you always stick to the rules. But can you bend some rules for someone?” Ani Lawrence.

Ngumiti si Mr. Dawson at sumimsim ng tsaa bago nagsalita. “Your Majesty, you know that I always stick to the rules for fair and square. Kailangang patas ang lahat. Though you are the Alpha King and you have my utmost respect. But a rule is a rule, Your Majesty.”

Nakakaintinding tumango si Lawrence. “Then when will she take the exam?”

Nagulat si Mr. Dawson. “She?”

Lawrence smiled. “My mate. I wanted her to enter the University.”

Mabilis na ibinaba ni Mr. Dawson ang hawak na tea cup at iniluhod ang isang tuhod. Then he bowed his head. “Forgive me for being disrespectful. I didn’t know it was the Queen.”

Umiling si Lawrence. “Mr. Dawson, please rise.”

Tumayo si Mr. Dawson. “Your Majesty, if the Queen wants to go to university, then I will make an arrangement…”

“No need. She will take the exam. Mr. Dawson, a rule is a rule. Don’t worry, I know she can ace it.”

Tumikhim si Cade. “But, Your Majesty, the exam that the university offers is as hard as cracking a big rock with your bare hands.”

Lawrence glared at Cade. “Are you cursing that your future queen is incompetent and dumb?” he asked with a cold voice.

Agad na yumukod si Cade at humingi ng patawad. “I don’t dare, Your Majesty. Please, forgive my words.”

Umiling si Lawrence at tumingin kay Mr. Dawson. “Schedule the day of the exam.”

“Yes, Your Majesty.”

Nang makaalis si Mr. Dawson, muling tumayo si Lawrence saka tumingin kay Blythe. There she was sitting under the big three and resting. The siblings, Ezra and Ezralyn, are with her and talking to her. Lawrence smiled and continued his work.

“YOUR HIGHNESS, His Majesty wants to have dinner with you. He was inviting you to eat with him. He’s waiting for you in the kitchen.” Sabi ni Ezra.

Kumunot ang nuo ni Blythe. “He hadn’t been coming to see me these past few days, and he was distancing himself. What’s with him tonight? Nauntog ba ang ulo niya at gusto niya akong makasamang kumain.” Aniya habang nakaupo sa gilid ng kama at nagbabasa ang libro.

Napangiwi si Ezra. I hope that His Majesty didn’t hear Her Highness’ words. “Please, Your Highness.”

Blythe clicked her tongue and stood up. She took the book she was reading and left the room. Hindi pa siya nakakapunta sa dining hall ng palasyo at ito pa lang ang unang beses na makakapasok siya. Her food was always brought to her room – Lawrence's room – by Ezra or the maids. Ezra guided her to the kitchen.

Kaagad na nakita ni Blythe si Lawrence na nakaupo sa dulo ng mahabang lamesa.

Lawrence automatically smiled when seeing his mate. Tumayo siya at sinalubong ito. “Sit here.” Pinaghugot niya ito ng upuan.

“Thanks.” Mahinang sambit ni Blythe saka umupo sa upuan. At sa mesa, may mga nakalagay na pagkain.

Then Lawrence went back to his seat. “Let’s eat.”

Blythe stared at Lawrence. “Say it.” Aniya.

Napatigil naman si Lawrence sa pagkain. He took down his spoon and fork, and looked at his mate. “You will take your special exam next week for you to enter the next sem.”

“Huh?” Nagtaka si Blythe.

Lawrence sighed. “I heard you and Ezralyn talking. You wanted to go back to school. Now is your chance. Take the special exam for you to enter the next sem.”

“Is it possible?” Blythe asked. “But I have no money.”

“I have and you can have it.” Lawrence takes out his Black Card and places it in front of his mate. “It’s for you.”

Napatitig si Blythe sa Black Card na nasa harapan niya. Of course, she knew what Black Card was. Nag-angat siya ng tingin kay Lawrence. “Wala akong pambayad sa ‘yo.”

Ngumiti si Lawrence. “Your smile is enough.”

“Ah?”

Umangat ang kamay ni Lawrence saka ginulo ang buhok ni Blythe. “Sabi ko sapat na ang ngiti mo na pambayad mo sa akin.”

“My smile?”

Tumango si Lawrence. Kinuha niya ang kamay ni Blythe saka inilagay doon ang Black Card. “Go shopping with Ezralyn. Though you look good in my clothes and I like it, I knew you would be comfortable with your own clothes.”

Napatingin si Blythe sa suot na damit. Yep, she doesn’t have a choice but to wear those clothes – Lawrence clothes. Wala naman siyang pagpipilian dahil wala naman siyang damit. Though binigyan siya ng damit ni Ezralyn pero hapit naman kasi ito sa katawan niya. She’s not comfortable wearing fitted clothes.

“Won’t you come with me?”

Lawrence looked at Blythe. Did I hear it right? She’s asking me to go with her?

Ibinaba ni Blythe ang hawak na Black Card. “I won’t take the special exam if you don’t come with me.”

Napangiti si Lawrence. “Do you want me to go with you?”

Nagbaba ng tingin si Blythe saka tumango.

“Okay. I will come with you.” Masayang sabi ni Lawrence saka nilagyan ng pagkain ang pinggan ni Blythe. “Kumain na tayo.” Nasulyapan niya ang libro na nasa upuan. Napailing siya saka natawa ng mahina. “You really love reading those books. That’s an ancient book about werewolves.”

It’s not that I love this book. I’m just looking for an answer. Sabi ni Blythe sa kaniyang isipan. Tumango na lamang siya kay Lawrence.

“I asked Ezralyn. She will give you some books tomorrow. You can start to read it for your special exam next week.”

“Mahirap ba ang special exam?” tanong ni Blythe.

Lawrence smiled. “You can do it.”

I knew it. Sabi ni Blythe sa kaniyang isipan. Wala namang madali sa mundo.

While eating, Blythe looked at Lawrence. Ito ang unang beses na nagkasama silang kumain. Simula kasi nang dumating siya rito sa palasyo, mag-isa lang siyang kumakain sa kwarto. Having dinner with Lawrence right now…she hates to admit it but she has started to feel comfortable around him.
