Chapter 17: The climb of the dragon held steady. Their target never shifted in the sky. If not for the repeated question from Smigget, time would have been difficult to gage. Lucky should have counted the chimes of “Are we there yet?” He might have been able to better judge this land they flew over. As it was, he had no idea, but the black glass castle he assumed to be in the center of the plane was invisible from this height and distance. The curve of the stone sky was obscured in the dusk. The underground mountains below were still too far down to discern any features with clarity. Adriana flew the dragon in a circle, watching the cosmic clock for any indication of movement. Lucky assumed she searched for marauders lurking in the shadows, waiting to spring an attack on the small group
