It was as if every word he spoke had a special meaning which was assimilated not only by her mind but by her body. He was very quiet, yet she felt as if he overpowered and dominated her until she had no life of her own and her very breathing was a part of his. When it was time to say goodnight, she had risen to stand beside the fountain, feeling that the cool water soothed her as if she was feverish. She thought he was watching her but she was not sure.
