"I can't believe you made us walk two miles." Charles sipped from his drink and groaned.
"Stop exaggerating, Charles. We haven't even explored half the mall."
I sighed and forced a smile at Beatrice. Dress shopping with whiny boys is not how I imagined my Wednesday night. We were taking a break and it was already nine. We hadn't found our dresses yet and we were running out of time.
"Why did you guys make us come with you? This is hell," James complained, which earned him dagger eyes from Beatrice.
"Because we are going to watch you dance after this. Makes sense to make you come with us, too."
"What does scavenging the mall have anything to do with me dancing an hour from now? And the venue's not even close to the mall."
"We are not scavenging. That's a bit extreme, James." I told him, flicking my straw.
"Whatever. Why couldn't you just leave us somewhere? Or better yet, why didn't we just meet at the venue of my dance?" James suggested.
Well, that makes sense. Makes more sense than bringing two boys shopping.
"I don't know. Why didn't you think of that earlier?" Bea retorted.
James shrugged. "Yeah, whatever. We're here now anyway. Let's just buy you girls' dresses."
I smirked. James is such an i***t. An attractive i***t.
Thirty minutes had passed and I was glad it was over. Bea and I had found our dresses in a mini boutique. Beatrice's dress was jade green in color which, with no doubt, made her eyes pop. It had tiny pearl beads lining down the side and a lovely heart-shaped neckline. It fit her like a second skin which Charles and James visibly disapproved of. But it was perfect for her. It stopped on the middle of her thighs and showed a good chunk of her long legs. She also bought new shoes. They were pumps that were gold and strappy. It had green fringes at the back strap and a light shade of green blended into it, which was a perfect match for her dress. While B's was a daring and quite attention-catching outfit, mine was angelic, if I could say so. It's a white cocktail dress and its skirt almost resembled a tutu if it weren't for it being pulled down. Faux diamonds sparkle on the neckline of the dress, which had a square neckline and a sleeveless satin fabric for the top. I paired it with white stilettos and a pale white satin clutch. I bought white baby's breath flowers to pin on my hair. B and I had decided that we'd do each other's make-up and hair and she'd come over to my place.
In reality, however, she’ll end up doing her and my makeup since I don’t know how to do all that.
It was all set up and all we needed to do was drive to a place fifteen minutes away from here. I hope we make it on time. I don't want to delay James from his event. If he doesn't make a good impression on the judges tonight, there's a chance he'll never redeem his scholarship.
"Strap yourselves tight, ladies," James warns. I put on my belt strap tightly. James is a good driver, most times, but when he was filled with excitement like this particular situation, he tended to be careless. He acts like he’s a racecar driver. It gets dangerous.
"Please don't kill me yet, Tucker," Bea whispered under her breath.
