"Nice place," Arthur said as he looked around.
"Thanks,” Blake responded. “Come on, this way.”
They went up the stairs and when they reached her room, she opened the door and invited him in.
“Whoa,” he said as he walked in, not just taken by the size of the room, but by the state it was in too. It was neat and very well put together with a double bed by the wall in between the two windows that overlooked the front yard, a fully fitted display on the left and a closet full of dull coloured but neatly folded clothes on the right; with a few posters of her favourite musicians on the walls. “Cool room.”
"Thanks,
“Clean.”
“Yeah, I’m a bit if a neat freak,” Blake said.
“Nice.”
“Please take some bed and make yourself at home," she said and Arthur removed his bag and put it on the floor, and then sat down on the edge of the bed, taking a closer look at her posters as on the other side of the bed, Blake took off her bag and put it on the floor too.
"Interesting artists you’ve got in here.”
“Oh my gosh, are you a fan of them too?”
“Uh no . . . I don’t listen to secular music,” he said and Blake immediately gave him a look.
“Why not?”
“Because listening to secular music is a way of conforming to the world and as Christians we must not conform to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Romans Chapter 12 Verse 2.”
“Wow uh . . . O.k.”
Arthur looked at the display and spotted something that immediately grabbed his attention. “Oh my gosh, is that the latest gaming console?”
"Yeah it is. I got it three weeks ago," Blake answered smiling.
"Dude it came out three weeks ago."
"Yes it did."
"Ugh sweet," he said admiring it.
"You want to check it out?"
"Yes!" he answered quick and they laughed as he then got off the bed and went to take a closer look at it. “Man look at that, it is by far the coolest console I have ever seen."
"It’s pretty sick."
"But it’s price tag is mad heavy though.”
“Oh my gosh yes,” she agreed. “I asked my mom to get it for me and she flat out said no and so I asked her to ask my dad. He and my mom are divorced and he feels guilty for having broken up our family and so he gets me everything I want.”
“Of course,” he said and they chuckled as he went on admiring it. The console was so cool it was almost futuristic.
"Well, if you don't mind you can come over and play it any time you want."
He turned to her eyes widened. "Seriously?"
“Yeah."
"Absolutely. Yes, what? Yes! I mean I can’t play the super violent games but yes!” Arthur said and they laughed. "100%,” he then said as they laughed on. “Mind if I check out your games?"
"Dude go to town.”
“Sweet,” he said and started looking through the games she had. There were so many they didn’t just occupy one compartment but three, with the other two compartments filled with DVDs and CDs; so many of them it was like being in a store. "Wow . . . Oh wow . . . What? You have Hunter Fighter X?"
"Yep.”
“Huh! Warrior Master.”
“Mm hmm,” she went, proud of her collection.
“Bingham Bentsworth Super Spy.”
“Uh huh.”
"Ugh man so cool," Arthur said and carried on as Blake just stood there watching him, smiling at how excited he was. He was like a kid in a candy store and seeing him fan-girl over her games, was such wholesome content it was priceless.
"Submerged Warrior, oh my gosh I love this game."
"Are you kidding me? That’s one of my all-time favourite games.”
"Me too.”
“Alright that’s it, Arthur, you are officially awesome,” she said and they laughed as he went on.
"The Golden Quintessence." He pulled it out. "What is this?"
"Dude, this could well be the most awesome game ever made. I bought it just a few days ago and it has been amazing."
"The cover looks super cool. What's it about?"
"It's about this warrior named Lila who has to go on a journey to find and reunite the four pieces of the ancient golden scrolls so that she can unlock her power and discover her destiny. She was born with the golden soul which means she’s the chosen one, and as the chosen one, she must prove herself worthy of the power inside her by defeating all the enemies she comes across and uniting all the pieces of the ancient golden scrolls so that she can uncover the truth about who she really is and step into her destiny.”
"Wow, that’s interesting.”
“So interesting,” she said beaming. The game was so good it was perfect. The storyline was intriguing, the main character was strong and beautiful and the graphics were so on point it was like real life, no wonder she was crazy about it.
“Hey . . . Is it just me or does she look a little like you?"
"Oh my gosh I thought I was the only one that saw that, she does right?"
"Yes she does,” Arthur said and they chuckled.
"Yeah so that’s the one I'm playing right now and it is awesome."
"Cool," he said and went on looking at the cover, checking the back even as inside a tingling dread crept up his spine. A strange feeling came over him the moment he held the cover and when he looked closely at Lila and saw just how striking to Blake she looked, that feeling grew stronger.
Just then, his phone started vibrating in his bag.
“That should be my mom, I should get that,” he said.
“Sure,” Blake said and Arthur put the cover on the display and went to answer his phone. It was his mother and after talking to her, he had to leave. “Have to go?”
“Yeah. My parents are going for a function and they want me to watch Armmie."
"Who's Armmie?"
"My little sister," he answered.
"Aw cute. How old is she?"
"Seven."
"Aww so cute,” she said and they chuckled as Arthur then grabbed his bag off the floor and threw it over his shoulder. “Come on, I’ll walk you out.”
“Thanks.”
They walked out of the room and down the stairs, and when they reached the front door, Blake unlocked and opened it for him. Walking out, he then turned back and looked at her, as in his eyes a warmness appeared.
"Thanks for inviting me in and for stepping in back there,” he said.
“No sweat. We still have to talk about how we’re going to deal with your issue though.”
"Goodness, you are not going to let this go are you?"
"No I'm not. Rick what's his face needs to be put in his place. It's not right what he's doing to you," Blake said and Arthur groaned as he threw his head down. "I’m not going to take no for an answer.”
“Fine.” He lifted his head and looked back at her. “Fine. We’ll talk about it tomorrow,” he said and she smiled; not only eager to help him but glad that he was finally going to be opening up to somebody about this terrible thing that had been happening to him for four whole months. An opening up that she was hoping was going to bring forth a solution that was going to ensure that he never got bullied by Rick Bream ever again.
“Cool.”
“Alright, bye.”
“Bye.”
Blake closed the door and locked it, and then ran upstairs to play her game. She loved having Arthur over but the entire time he was there, she was itching to play; that was how into the game she was. The story was unfolding so well that she couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen next.
Entering her room, she shut the door behind her and quickly got everything ready and when it was, she put on her headset and bracelets and went into the game.
