13 Constable Pang passed the halfway point of his shift, the point at which he allowed himself to start thinking about the end of it, and what he would do once it was finished, as he started down Guildhall Road. His thoughts were on what would come after the end of his shift, but that didn’t mean he was unaware of his surroundings. He spotted the Ford Focus from three cars away, but it wasn’t until he drew level with it that he realised why it had attracted his attention. It was the only vehicle he saw that was likely to be owned by a low-paid person, all the others in the short road were worth at least twice what the Ford was, and they clearly belonged to professionals of one sort or another.
