I woke up before the c**k could crow.I looked at my baby and saw that he was sleeping peacefully.I hissed and stood up from the bed. I took a quick bath and changed my clothes to something simple and ordinary.I took a few things from my room and left with my baby. I walk to the gate and the guards allowed me out.I look at them and saw the disgusting look on their faces. I looked at the places one more time and wonder what my life would have been if not for that night.

I stood outside the palace gate and wondered where I should go.I looked at my baby and saw that he was sleeping peacefully.I gave him a quick kiss before starting our journey.I walked for hours before arriving in a village.I hissed in relief when I sported a familiar house.I walk to it and stood at the door .so many things went through my mind as I stood in front of the door .what if she doesn't want me or my baby .she was the only hope I have left.

I took a deep breath and knocked on the door, but got no response from them. I knocked again and still no response.I stood there for a while before I realized she might be in the bakery.I left the house and made my way to the bakery. as soon as I got to the bakery I saw lali attending to a customer .the moment she saw she quickly left the customer and ran up to me .she gently took the baby from me and asked me to sit down .she gave me a pity look before going to the other room and gave me some water.I thanked her and drank all the water.I looked at her and saw the Pity look on her face

"Wait here I will be back".she said those words and left with my baby still in her arms.

Few minutes later she came back and closed the shop. the walk back to her house was a quiet one .lali just kept staring at me with a pity look. once we got to her house she asked me to take a bath and rest for a while since I just got back from a long journey

"What about him"? I asked lali while looking at my son in her arms

"Don't worry about him, I will take care of him"

I smiled at her before going back to the room I stayed when I first came here. I took a bath and in no time I fell asleep.

I did not know how long I slept but when I woke up the day was already dark.I lazily stood up from the bed and walk up to the sitting room.I was almost at the sitting room when I heard voices coming out for the sitting room.I noticed the voices was that of lali and her husband.I walked in and saw lali and her husband playing with my baby .the baby was in lali husband's arms and he was holding him so tenderly.i smiled and walk up to them .lali was the one who noticed me walking in

"You are finally awake".she spoke up

"Sorry I slept long". I told her

"Not to worry ".she replied

"Did he give you any trouble". I asked while looking at my son

"No, he was a good kid".that was lali husband speaking.

"Thank you". I told them in a calm voice .they both just smiled at me

"I know you must be wondering what happened". I spoke up

"It's okay if you don't wanna talk about it now".lali assured me

"It's better I say it now". I told her

"Alright ,what happened".she asked with a concerned look.I hissed in frustration before telling them all that happened in the palace. both lali and her husband were quiet for a moment after I finished telling them my story

"Never knew the king was this stupid".lali spoke up

"Shuu reduce your voice someone might hear you ". I told her

"Let them hear".she replied in anger.

"It's definitely a set-up".lali husband spoke up

"Yes it is, and the emperor is too blind to see it ".lali replied .it was obvious she was furious

"You can stay here as long as you want ".lali husband spoke up

"Yes you can".lali added

I looked at them and couldn't help stop the tears coming from my eyes. I don't know this people, but they are willing to take me and my child into their home.lali must have noticed me crying and moved closer to me

"Stop crying Mel, the Truth can't be hidden forever, the emperor will definitely come look for you ".she said those words while gently rubbing my back. I cleaned my face and smiled at her .she returned the smile and took the baby from her husband's arms.

"Have you name him yet?".she asked

"No"

"What will you name him".she asked

I kept quiet and thought of a name to give him, but my brain was messed up, and I couldn't come out with any suitable name.

"You can name him". I told lali with a smile

"Me?".she asked in shock

"Of course, after all you are his godmother after all". I told lali

I noticed the big bright smile on her face when I said those words

"Godmother".she asked

"Yes lali, I want you to take care of my son when I won't be here any day". I told her

"We will take care of him together, so you are not going anywhere".she spoke those words while looking at my son.

"So what will you name him". I asked

She was quiet for a moment thinking of a suitable name to give him before she smiled at me

"I will name him Malik".she spoke with a big smile on her face

"I wouldn't have gotten a better one ". I told her.

She smiled at my baby before kissing him

"Welcome Malik ".she told him

I looked at her husband and saw that he was really happy and smiling.

"Thank you".lali husband told me

"For what ". I asked

"For bringing this much joy to lali face and to my home".

Then and there I realized lali and her husband were both childless .she must have really wanted a child with the way she was handling Malik

"This baby is not just mine but also yours ". I told him .he smiled at me before taking Malik from lali hands.

"Welcome home Malik".he said those words while smiling at Malik.
