Chapter Two

 I stared at her for a moment, then looked down “Werewolves have a guiding wolf in them? If they have theirs than…. Where’s mine?”  I looked back to Amber “I…. wouldn’t know….” she gave me a confused stare, then asked “How old are you Magena?” 

“I’m eighteen, but I'll be turning nineteen in the next week or so.”

“That’s why you haven’t heard from her yet, usually when you’re younger you’ll have these… feelings that ended up being right, or end up protecting you. When you come of age; which is nineteen, you’ll hear her, she will make sure you know she’s there.” I smile a bit to myself, Amber continues “And usually after then is when you’ll find your mate, the person the Moon Goddess meant for you to be with. But you don’t always have to stay with them, you can reject them but it hurts like hell so be careful.” I nod and look down, I then open my mouth to ask why she knew how it felt but then was interrupted by the sound of the downstairs door opening and a deep husky voice “Hey Amber! Are you home?” Amber's eyes grew wide as she mouthed ‘oh s**t’ and jumped from her chair and bolted to the door, and in a casual voice answered back “I’m up stairs Josh, I’ll be down in a minute!”

Josh's voice sent an excited shiver down my spine “Magena get your stuff together!”  I could hear Josh come through the front door “It’s okay Amber! I’ll come up to you, I just have a couple of questions to ask about building…” his voice trails off, then follows the sound of something sniffing the air. Amber looked down the stairs with confusion “What’s wrong?” Josh's voice follows “Did you bake something in here Am-Bam?” 

“No? Why?”

“It smells like…. Pumpkin rolls with nutmeg in here….. Are you sure you don't have a candle going or something?”

“I’m positive.”

Josh was climbing the stairs; my heart started pounding, it felt like a bomb about to explode. But not from fear, but from excitement and anxiousness. Amber then looked from me to the stairs, then mouthed to me ‘I’ll be back’ then quickly closed the door. I shook my head “There is something definitely wrong with me…” 

 I could hear Amber and Josh talking out in the hall, that's when I realized how much danger I was in. I quickly looked around the room to find somewhere to hide, my eyes land on the window “I could always hide on the roof, they won't find me anywhere in the room so that will keep Amber out of trouble.” I carefully climbed out of the bed and gently opened the window without making any noise, i undo the latch and open the window quietly. I step onto the roof silently; picturing myself as a ninja on a secret mission, I close the window enough just to leave a c***k so that I may have easy access back into the room. Just then I hear Josh barge into the room saying “Come on! Share the damn pumpkin roll with me! I know you have it in here!”

I could hear a scuffling sound in the room, most likely Amber trying to get josh out of the room and back into the hall. Then Amber’s voice then saying “I don't have a stupid pumpkin roll in my medical room jo-the-hoe” I choke back the laughter and put my hands to my mouth and nose to make sure that no noise escapes and is overheard. I could hear an offended scoff and Josh’s voice shooting back “I’m offended my dear sister, I hope you know that I am still pure and anxiously waiting for my mate; unlike you I didn’t have my mate standing right next to me the minute I turned Nineteen.” Just then I heard someone “Josh! Josh there’s someone on the roof!” I stood and spun around to find two other men staring at me from below, I then heard a voice in my head ‘run’ and without hesitation I spun back around and ran to the back of the house and jumped off the roof and landed with a roll onto the ground, I then found my footing again and started sprinting into the dense woods behind Amber’s house/clinic.

My side was killing me from that landing, but I needed to keep going. I needed to keep running away from the house though part of me is screaming for me to turn back around. I shook my head again and ran faster, but I could feel something gaining on me. I sensed two wolf-like creatures behind me, most likely the Beta and Gamma. An Alpha always has his most trusted men do most of the dirty work. I then quickly climbed up a tree and sat in one of the tallest branches towards the top of the tree, the Beta and Gamma were literally barking up the tree at me. The Beta then growled “Brayden, go get Josh and tell him that we branched the intruder.” Brayden nodded and ran back the direction we came, I looked around for a way out of this situation but in the end it was useless, Andrew; who is Josh’s Beta and Braydens twin, has his inner wolf thing figured out. His wolf must be five times the size of a normal wolf, it was a steel grey with hints of black on the muzzle and the chest. Brayden then returns and replies “Josh is on his way, he said don't lose sight of the intruder.” Braydens wolf was the complete opposite of Andre’s wolf, he was black with hints of grey on the muzzle and chest. 

An angry and deep growl shook the ground, my body trembled with excitement. Josh’s wolf was beyond compare to the two brothers that came before him, josh’s wolf’s size made the brothers sizes seem like teenagers compared to him. The fur on him was dark, almost black but if the light shined on it just right you can tell the color of the fur was a deep red; red like the blood of his enemies he ruthlessly killed without mercy. But what really stood out to me was his eyes, they were as blue as the sky on a clear day with hints of grey speckles in the iris. I felt like I was pulled into a trance.

Josh’s POV……….

The day started like any other, I had my Alpha duties early in the morning. Met with my beta, Andrew and he gave me a report of what happened the night before, video called the other alphas including The Steelfur pack. It was then I was notified that three of their pack members had left the head group and went to join another part of their group in Washington, but they were then notified that they never made it. Something about the news made me antsy and I couldn’t sit comfortably in my seat, they went on to say that they found the bodies of the parents in the front part of the car at the bottom of the revine on the other side of the road, but their daughter still remains missing. I tensed up at the word ‘missing’ like I lost one of my own, what a strange feeling. They said her name but I was too lost in my thoughts to notice, my wolf itched for a run. I then brought the video call to a close and sat back in my chair. I looked at the time, twelve fifteen it read. ‘Run, we need to go on a run.’ my wolf Asher demanded, I nod in agreement ‘Sure, lets go.’ I replied.

I step out and shift into my inner wolf, letting Asher take control. I thought of how we both felt really off and ways of how to make the both of us feel better, run’s were always good for the both of us, maybe I’ll stop by Amber’s house and ask her what good work out’s we could do to help build some muscle. I was already pretty ripped but it didn't hurt to build some more. When I came back I noticed that Asher was already taking us to Amber’s house, I was surprised because usually Asher doesn't listen to my thoughts; he’s more rebellious against them than anything. Asher then stopped running and let me take back control without saying a word, again, not something he normally does. I then sence my beta and gama behind me, I turn to see them arrive and shift back to their human forms “Whats going on Josh?” Andrew asked,

“I'm just not feeling like myself, so I was gonna ask Amber if she can help me with some workouts to help me build some more muscle.” Andrew and Brayden looked at each other “How are you gonna be able to build more muscle if all you have on your body is ripped muscles Josh?” Brayden asked in a teasing voice, I shrugged “I’ll find a way.” and with that I opened the front door of Amber’s house “Hey Amber! Are you home?” There was a moment of silence that followed, then I heard footsteps on the second floor, a door opening, then her voice calling down the stairs “I’m upstairs Josh! I’ll be down in a minute!” 

I then walked through the door and closed it behind me “It’s okay Amber! I’ll just come up to you, I just had a couple of questions to ask about building…” my voice trailed off as a strong scent of… what was it?... it smells like… freshly baked pumpkin rolls with nutmeg sprinkled over the top. Amber’s voice shook me out of my thoughts “What’s wrong?” I looked around “Did you bake something here today Am-bam?”

“No? Why?” I sniffed the air again, sure enough “It smells like… pumpkin rolls with nutmeg in here….. Are you sure you don’t have a candle going or something?”

“I’m positive.”

I couldn’t help myself anymore, the scent was definitely coming from up the stairs, and Asher was going crazy in my head with all the barking and yipping. I started walking up the stairs to the second floor, with every step I take the scent grew stronger. Finally half way up the stairs Asher then yipped ‘mate’  my heart began to pound, then I hear Amber’s quickened footsteps on the floor towards me. I have to act like normal around her, I have no idea who else is here. Amber appears in my view, I could tell she was trying to hide something just by the way she was standing in front of the hallway of doors. The scent was coming from the second door on the right, which I knew was a guest bedroom cause hers was to the left of it. This smell was driving both Asher and I crazy, I then look at Amber “Are you sure you don't have anything here that’s pumpkin roll scented and or related?” 

She nods and says “Yes Alpha, I’m sure I don’t have anything here related.” I sigh and push passed her and walk to the guest room, her squeals telling me not to go in there just proved that she was hiding something. I open the door “Come on! Share the damn pumpkin roll with me! I know you have it in here!” I looked around the room to find no trace of the source of the scent, but it was strong. The owner of the scent must have been here for a couple of days or so then Amber’s voice rang through my thoughts saying “I don't have a stupid pumpkin roll in my medical room jo-the-hoe” I gave her a supersized look then scoffed and face her “I’m offended my dear sister, I hope you know that I am still pure and anxiously waiting for my mate; unlike you I didn’t have my mate standing right next to me the minute I turned Nineteen.”

 After I just finished my sentence I hear Andrew’s voice yelling “Josh! Josh there’s someone on the roof!” and with that, footsteps over the roof and a grunt from below, Andrew and Brayden were already on their trail but I wanted to see for myself, I ran to the door, then paused and looked back at Amber “We’ll talk about this later.” then bolted down the hallway and stairs and shifted through the door as Brayden mind-linked ‘Alpha we have her branched at a tree’ her…. Asher yipped again but I ignored him ‘Don’t lose sight of her, I’m on my way’ with that Asher and I sprinted through the woods, the scent of pumpkin rolls grew stronger, replacing the smell of the forest. I looked to Andrew and Brayden so see them stairing at her, I growled in my Alpha tone and they looked at me then down to the floor, I think they got the message ‘Don’t look at what isn’t yours’  I looked up to the tree’s and saw her. Golden blonde hair that looked like pure gold against the sunlight, she had pale skin with freckles spread across her cheeks and Big beautiful Green eyes that stared back at me.
