CHAPTER 12 I’D FOUND A Chinese restaurant I liked five minutes away, so it didn’t take long for me to get back with a bagful of food. While I waited for the chef to do his thing, I’d wondered about the wisdom of leaving Leo alone in my apartment. But we had to learn to trust each other. Like it or not, we needed to work together from now on. When I got back and dumped the food on the table, Leo pretended to be disinterested, but his eyes lit up. Close up, with the lights on, I took the opportunity to study him better. In the photos I’d seen, he’d been built to perfection, but now his arms lacked definition and he’d lost weight. Too much weight. He hadn’t had any fat on him in the first place, but now he looked positively skinny. Probably something to do with his “can’t afford food” diet
