Chapter 1 Rubeus

1096 Words
Rubeus sat at his desk going through the finances of the pack, flipping through pages of a ledger. He heard a knock on his door. " Come in." He looked up, watching Faith walk in with a tray of food. He nodded to her briefly, taking in her not usual attire, wearing a short red dress and heels. He raised an eyebrow, slightly wondering how she was able to walk around in those all day, but to each their own. He moved aside his paper work when she walked over, placing the tray in front of him. He felt her hand slide on his shoulder as her voice seductively in his ear, "Is there anything else I can do for you, Alpha?" He shook his head, trying hard not to roll his eyes. "No, thank you, Faith, that will be all." Most of the mateless she-wolves try to come on him, but he learned a very long time ago not to s.hit where he eats. Faith was gorgeous. She had long blonde hair, tanned skin, and beautiful blue eyes, which were his favorite feature of hers. He did really love blue eyes. He just knew his mate would have the most beautiful eyes in the world. He would often dream about those eyes in his sleep. They were always like the deepest blue of the ocean, and black hair. He swears the Moon Goddess showed him what his mate looked like, so he would know her when he saw her. She couldn't just possibly be his imagination, could she? His wolf snickered at his thoughts. 'Earth to Rubeus, the tramp is still here.' He blinked rapidly startled by her sudden voice. "Alpha? Sorry to disturb you, but I was wondering if you would like to have dinner with me sometime?" He hadn't even noticed she was still standing there staring at him while he was off in his own dream world. He looked up at her and gave her a soft smirk. "Thank you, Faith, I am flattered, but like I've told you, I'd rather not." He gently patted her hand before pushing it off his shoulder, and grabbed his coffee from the tray, taking a sip and leaning back in his chair." If you'll excuse me, I need to make a phone call." He set his coffee down, flipped through his index, and lifted the phone, placing it against his ear. He started to dial, watching her out of the corner of his eye. "Yes, of course, sorry Alpha." He watched her frown, then slowly turn around and leave, shutting his office door. He sighed with relief, hanging up the phone before finishing dialing the number. He lifted his coffee, taking another sip as his Beta Andrea barged through the office door. Andrea whom he affectionately called Andy, had been his best friend for hundreds of years now. Andy was very short, with short brunette hair often in a pixie cut, and green eyes. She was born in this pack, and he got to observe her as she grew. She always trained harder than any other male, and it showed with her skills. He knew she would make a great beta right from the start, so he had her groomed early, and she had no objections. She adored Rubeus like a brother. She was an only child and often lonely, picked on for being different, but Rubeus didn't care. Her mother thought that they would end up being mates, but Rubeus knew his friend preferred she-wolves. He supported Andy in everything she did, even helped her come out to her parents, and when her father threw her out, he shared his home with her. Eventually, her parents did accept her for who she was, but her father still harbored ill feelings when he saw her with she-wolves. " What can I do for you Andy?" He chuckled softly, watching her steal half of his sandwich from his tray, sitting in her normal chair before taking a bite of it. "Ruby, we need to talk about the training again. I still feel like we are lacking in some areas, and the security of the pack could suffer because of it. I am worried the Shadow Den is going to come for their lost members. " Rubeus cringed slightly at the use of the nickname she gave him. He would only allow her to call him that, but he still didn't like it. "Andy do whatever you think is best, just don't over do it. The training I think is enough. We haven't been attacked. If anything, we have grown in numbers. How is Alison doing, by the way?" Alison was a Kitsune from the Shadow Den pack who came about a month ago. She had been severely beaten. She said she was fleeing from her den for her life. We, of course, welcomed her into the pack and told her she didn't need to worry. We at the Red River pack accept all, and will defend our members. Andy let out a soft sigh. "She is fully recovered now, and has found her brother here, so she is staying with him in his house. They are very grateful. Ruby, I can't imagine being part of that den. How they get away with it is beyond me.". Rubeus took another sip of his coffee, smirking at Andy. "I could not imagine refusing anyone who comes from that den. I worked hard to free the omegas from that horror." His eyes glaze over as a warrior mind links him, 'Alpha, breach on the west border. Three shifters, don't smell of wolves. A girl and two boys. They look young Alpha, and very tired. They are requesting sanctuary.' He frowned. 'I'll send Andy right now for them, call more warriors to make sure if someone is following them we can take care, and protect them. Don't do anything rash. They might be Kitsunes.' He looked over at Andy. "Possibly more Kitsunes at the border. Could you take care of them Andy?" He watched as she immediately jumped to her feet and ran out the door. He picked up the other half of his sandwich, taking a bite. He could feel his wolf suddenly restless. 'Rex what is it?' He felt his wolf prowling around in his head, his tail flicking. 'I don't know.' He replied, a suggestion forming in his head. 'Do you want to go out for a run?' He huffed when his wolf turned to stalk to the back of his mind ignoring him. "Guess not then."
