Chapter 8Sunset couldn’t come fast enough for Conner. Even before the sun was setting, he stood at the far end of his paddock and watched as the sun streaked the sky in shades of pink and orange. He’d waited long enough. Casting a last look over his shoulder at the farm, Conner lit his small lantern then headed toward the forest. As he stood waiting and listening, Conner shifted from foot to foot, glancing frequently at the setting sun. The forest remained dark and silent, although there was an air of foreboding Conner did not normally feel when near it.
