Chapter 2A couple of years passed quickly and Conner often went back to the clearing, particularly in winter. Although he didn’t see the wolf again, he couldn’t shake the impression that he was being watched. The sensation didn’t worry him, but rather gave him a warm feeling. Even if it was only a wolf that in some small way cared for him. If he’d had success with his rabbit traps, he made a habit of leaving the head behind. It was always gone when he returned. Even if he couldn’t be sure that it was his wolf that had taken it, Conner took hope that the black wolf was alive and well. Standing at his paddock, Conner looked out over his herd. St Patrick’s Day was a few weeks away. His cows were due to calf and he’d managed to plant some more potatoes. Things were looking good for the year.
