Damien blinked at her. "Some of the tactics I used to get you here were not my best work. I was actually very manipulative."
She knew what he meant. She had to have a little faith. Because that was all that was left with her now. "You did annoy and provoke me, I do agree."
He sighed. "I have tried different approaches, and unfortunately, that tone works best. You do love, and take up a challenge, Vienna."
Her heart raced as she remembered the most important part of the letter. "I want to know, what did you mean? About the things, I have lost? Does it have something to do with my family?" she asked him.
He scratched behind his ear, as he seemed to be thinking whether he should reveal. "It is not safe for me to tell you that. Not yet."
Vienna shook her head. "That is hardly fair."
