I jump up into the rooftops just like I did many times in the Simulation.
It is different out here.
I can actually feel the fresh air in my face, all the different scents floating in the air and the immense noise coursing through the city.
Is it just me or is there too much light?
This really is the city that never sleeps.
Even though it is high hours into the night, the city is still beaming with life.
And crime.
Standing on one of the highest parts of the city, I can still hear the many felonies happening in the dark.
The many innocent people getting robbed.
I smirk, making my decision. It will be the perfect opportunity to vent my frustration.
Although I have never done this before in real life, seen that I was sent to the Academy right after I got turned, I have done this many times at the Simulation.
After all, hunting for blood is a natural part of being a vampire.
I jump down from the rooftop I was in and land in another rooftop, starting to jump from building to building, knowing exactly where my prey is at.
As I hear a girly scream, I know my time has come.
I land right in front of my victims and next to a… A guy?
I could have sworn that was a girly scream.
I simply shrug and turn to my victims who are now wondering who the hell I am and where did I come from.
One of them has the guts to point his gun at me after his surprise passes.
I just smirk at him after signaling the guy next to me to run for his life. He does so, without a single question.
“Well, well” The other guy says, also pointing his gun at me. “Looks like we have a replacement tonight, Walter”
“And what a replacement” The guys whistle. “Where did you come from, sweetie? You’re a long way from private school”
I place my hand on my hip and try to look flirty. “Just because I am wearing a school uniform, doesn’t mean I came from there” I say, suggestively.
The guys raise their eyebrows at my suggestion and then both smirk like pigs at me.
Disgusting.
I hope your blood tastes better than you look.
“Oh? And what is it you have to offer us tonight sweetie?”
“Why don’t you come over here and figure it out?” I tell them, suggestively.
Idiots. This is almost too easy.
They both smile like idiots and nearly drool over me as they come closer. I am about to jump them when suddenly both guys fall to the ground.
I look at them shockingly and only then realize they were shot with sleeping darts.
“s**t!” I am about to jump when suddenly a heavy iron net falls upon me and forces me onto the ground.
The Organization.
Shit. I am so screwed.
I struggle against the net but it is already too late. Soon enough, I can feel a gun pressed against my head.
I growl at whoever dares point a gun at me and sure enough a guy in the usual Organization outfit, composed of a fully black suit with their symbol on their chest, stands over me with a look of dominance.
From the beginning of time, supernaturals have been hunted by humans who believe we didn’t belong in their world. Over time, those humans have formed a powerful assembly. They became experts at hunting us down.
The Organization is the prime reason why the Academy was formed.
Of course, there are still rogue hunters working on their own terms to try to bring us down, but the Organization is different.
They are fierce and have many tools made specifically to capture and kill us.
The guy currently pointing his gun at my head is obviously a part of the Organization and it won’t be long before more like him come join him in his capture.
They don’t play games when it comes to capturing vampires. They know how deadly we can be.
If I am going to manage to escape my certain doom, I have to act fast.
Fortunately, I longer have any of that meatloaf coursing through me or I would be screwed. To my advantage, I am also extremely thirsty.
Everyone knows how fierce a thirsty vampire can be.
Using all my strength, I suddenly jump up, managing to free myself from the heavy net and growl at the man in front of me.
Without even flinching, he aims his gun at me again and shoots exactly at the same time I jump at him. I claw his throat out, the smell of blood filling the air.
All I want is to have a taste of his blood but I know the Organization taints their blood so it becomes extremely poisonous to vampires.
With this Organization member dead, I get up and look around, smelling the air. More of them are coming. And fast.
I run away from the crime scene and only then realize the horrible pain in my arm.
Shit. He got me.
Somehow the bullet managed to hit my arm and it stings like hell.
A normal bullet would have been nothing, but the Organization uses specially made bullets. This one is probably poisoned.
Shit, s**t, s**t.
I’m in trouble.
I continue running, but no longer know where to go anymore.
I can’t head back to the Academy with these guys tailing me. If they find the Academy, we’re all doomed.
All I have left to do is run, but even that is starting to get difficult as my vision starts to blur.
This poison sure works fast.
As I run, I make the stupid mistake of tripping and falling to the ground. The pain in my arm is killing me as I struggle to get back up.
I can hear the Organization members coming closer. Three, maybe four of them are quickly closing in on me, surely handling their expert weaponry.
This is it. This is how I die.
As I continue struggling to get back up, I suddenly hear fighting noises and growling.
Growling?
Before I can figure out what is going on, another vampire comes closer to me, covered in blood.
Organization members’ blood.
He must have taken all of them out on his own.
I feel dizzy and extremely sick and I know I am about to lose my senses.
But not before I see who my new savior is.
Shit.
Not you.
Anyone but you.
As he crouches over me, I can see his worried green eyes survey me as he recognizes who I am. His brownish skin is lightened by the street chandeliers and he stretches out to touch me.
“Naiya? What the hell are you doing here?” He asks me.
He’s Raphael.
The vampire who turned me.
I am about to answer him when my system collapses and everything turns black.
