THE next morning, I was awakened by the nurse telling me that my mom had woken up. I got up right away and went over to my mom’s bed.
Valerie: “Hey mom, I’m here. How are you feeling?”
My mom just looked at me with weak sad eyes. It looks like she couldn’t talk.
Valerie: “Nurse, what’s wrong. Why isn’t she talking?”
Nurse: “We’ve already informed the doctor that the patient has woken up. She should be here momentarily.”
I kissed my mom’s face and kept telling her that it will be okay, and that the doctor will be here soon and that she shouldn’t worry.
When the doctor arrived, she introduced herself as Dr. Avila and that she’s the resident doctor assigned to my mom’s case. She said that her oncologist will come by later during their rounds.
She looked friendly and I introduced myself
