A scream rose out of my throat. The Greater Nahash demon raised its head in the air. It opened its mouth, and a thick black tongue flickered out. The serpent remained still for a moment, and it dived down toward me in a blur, shrieking. Falling on my back, I rolled to the side. The giant snake’s mouth collided with the hard-packed soil. A foul stench invaded my nostrils. The demon rose and shook its head in the air. I scrambled to my feet and ran away, screaming. “Help!” The veins on my legs pulsed as I dashed through the desolate lands. My heart rattled between my lungs, and my breathing was fast and shallow.
