CHAPTER ONE
RAK’S POV
Strippers. Drugs. Spicy food. Sombrero hats. Beaches. s*x-wait, I hadn’t cheated on Darleen. I loved her too much but my friends were definitely having quite the copious amounts of s*x. I wasn’t jealous of them. Not even the slightest. In three days, I would be marrying Darleen, the woman I loved and well, my friends had thought it great to throw me the biggest bachelor party.
Sixteen days. Seven different countries. That had been Ken’s idea and well, I wouldn’t complain, not even in the slightest. Cancun, Mexico had been the first stop. Unlimited tequila shots, spicy food and I even had a sombrero hat for a souvenir. Then we’d smoked weed in the Amsterdam’s coffee shops as they called them. Cartagena had of course not been off the list and well, how could I say no to renting a boat and getting drunk with more than just a few people before running off to Miami? Ken had definitely done his research by putting Tallinn on the last and now, we had just exited the extremely wild Las Vegas life. I would have loved to stay there some more, probably lived The Hangover life. Now we were headed to Bangkok before jetting back to New York.
“f**k! I’m so hangovered right now,” Ken grumbled, flopping next to me. Everyone else on the jet was passed out including the four women Ken had picked up in in Las Vegas.
I was certainly no better.
“Well, you thought it was a good idea to hold a world partying tour for me,” I countered, closing my eyes while silently wishing the throbbing in my head would stop. Las Vegas had been a f*****g blur.
“So you are getting married,” he began, forcing me to open my eyes and look at him.
“Fifth time you’ve asked me that question today. It still hasn’t hit you or what?” I chuckled and almost instantly flinched at the pain behind my eyes.
“What are you? Twenty-four? You still have a whole life ahead of you and you are choosing to waste it by getting married this young. Why?”
“I’m not wasting my life Ken. Darleen and I have been together for two years and this is what we both want. Get a girlfriend, dude,” I groaned, silently begging him to just stop talking. This really was not the time for that.
“Are you sure it’s what you really want? Because from the way I see it, this is what your parents want. It’s what Darleen wants but it’s certainly not something you want,”
I puckered up, the headache completely forgotten, “Are you still high or what?”
“Why? Because I only get to be this wise when I’m on Molly?” he shook his head, “You are making a mistake, Rak and I’m the only one bold enough to tell it to you on your face. I watched you since day one of the bachelor party. You looked free, happy and certainly ogling a lot of butts,”
“What? No, I did not,” I countered, my face reddening.
“Yes you did. It almost made me wonder if you are really straight. I mean, some of them were men,” then his eyes widened as he feigned shock, “Did you check mine out too when I wasn’t looking?”
I hit his arm, “It’s not worth my precious eyes,”
“Hey. I have been hit on by men and women because of this ass. I could have it insured unlike your flat ass,” he pointed at his butt, standing up and wiggling it on my face and I pushed him away.
“Oh God! You two are so gay. f**k each other already,” Dean grumbled as he stood up, shaking his head. The irony of that was that Dean was actually the gay on of the trio.
“Right. Because I’d want to be with someone who still thinks Aliens are real,” I shook my head.
“Hey, they are real. I mean, think about. The universe is a vast expanse of…” I tuned him out, knowing he was going to be speaking about aliens for the next God knows how many hours.
See, here was the thing. We were a three-tight friends group but I was much closer to Ken than I was to Dean. Maybe it had to do with the fact that, not only did we meet in kindergarten but our families were closely knit together. While I was the heir of leading jet company in the whole of U.S, he was the heir to his parents Oil company, literally the best oil company in the whole of U.S. Dean had become part of our rather insane and careless group in first year of high school and well, he was a pretty good defense lawyer. It was no surprise that he had become part of my father’s legal counsel since last year. Despite being the youngest in the group, I was probably the most hot-headed individual and definitely too sassy for my age. Yet, I’d still kept the good boy image quite well somehow. You know; get the good grades, never been caught on a scandal, dated the right guy and made sure I was nothing short of good praises even from a random stranger.
I had probably dosed off during all the alien talk from Ken and only woke up we arrived in Bangkok. Given how tired we all were, we checked into a rather elegant hotel before choosing to get some well-deserved rest right after a good meal. I tried to get some sleep; God knows I did but something about Ken’s words began nagging me.
Getting married was my choice too, right? It was what both Darleen and I wanted. It had to be. Maybe I was just getting cold feet.
What I hadn’t known was that these same imminent doubts could change my life for good. That this one last night of partying could give me more than I bargained for.
