Chapter Six A few days later… It was a refreshingly cool spring day, so Nicoh and I elected to sit out in the covered backyard patio. As we nestled on one of the overstuffed outdoor wicker couches, Nicoh dozed, snoring quietly as his head rested carelessly on my thigh. I looked down at him, absently stroking his velvety ear—a bit envious of his ability to transition to a relaxed state. Physically, I felt as though I could be equally content, but mentally I was all over the place. I processed the events of the past few days—work, Charlie’s party, Parker’s sudden absence, the search and recovery of his body—even Leah’s news about Ramirez’s ex rattled around in my head. I sighed. Nope, there was definitely no way I could join Nicoh in a nap, no matter how enticing I found the gentle rhythm
