Daisy’s POV
I woke up to an uneasy feeling and a restless wolf. My dreams were filled with my white wolf chasing a dark brown, almost black wolf through the woods. She would yip happily whenever this mysterious wolf got near her. A few times, he brushed against her shoulder, and sparks would spread through my body. It gave me an uneasy feeling because that was not Dominic’s wolf. Boreas is a red wolf with white and black streaks.
Hot breath on the back of my neck brought me back to reality. Dominic was snoring softly behind me. My back was against his firm chest while an arm held me tight. I lay staring off into my room for several minutes before deciding I needed to get out of bed. I somehow managed to get free of Dominic’s hold and run into the bathroom. I began my morning routine and stepped into the shower. It wasn’t long before Dominic joined me.
I looked up at his pale naked form. He wiped my chin with a laugh. “You still drool while looking at me,” Dominic said. He leaned down and kissed my lips. My arms wrapped around his neck, and he pulled me tight against his chest. For some reason, fire didn’t ignite, and the kiss, while pleasant, wasn’t hot. He pulled away from me and stroked my cheek. “Something is troubling you.”
“I have been having strange dreams,” I replied to him. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tell him about the strange wolf.
“About me?” He asked with a raised eyebrow.
I bit my lip and looked away from him. “They were just dreams,” I said softly.
He stroked my cheek and kissed the top of my head. “Maybe you should talk to your mother about them,” He whispered in my ear. He began to kiss down my cheeks and then nibbled my neck. “I can’t wait to mark you tonight,” He said to me.
My wolf made a strange sound in the back of my head, and I shuddered. Dominic seemed to sense my unease and pulled away from me. He silently began to wash me from head to toe. I felt more relaxed when he was done. “I’m sorry,” I mumbled.
He hooked a finger under my chin and tilted my head upwards, so I was looking into his grey eyes. “You have nothing to be sorry for,” He smiled and kissed my lips. “Sometimes, we all have off days.”
I clasped his arm and leaned into it. “I love you so much, Dominic.”
“I know,” He chuckled.
After we were done in the shower, we wandered into the closet. “What are you going to do today?” I asked him.
He shrugged. “I haven’t made any plans. I’ll probably end up hanging out with your brothers.”
“I was going to hang out with Gracie and Piper,” I told him. As if on cue, a loud knock sounded on my door. I pulled on my robe and walked out of the closet. I opened the door, and Gracie pushed past me. “Good morning to you too, Grace,” I mumbled.
“I need to borrow your pink sweater,” She said while walking towards the closet.
I tried to protest because Dominic was completely naked in there, but my mate walked out wearing a pair of shorts. “Good morning, nice of you to Grace us with your presence,” Dominic said to my cousin.
She snorted and rolled her eyes. “You are still not funny, Dominic,” She said and walked into the closet. I followed her in, and she was already rummaging through my clothes.
“Why do you need my sweater so bad?” I chuckled while pulling it from the rack and handing it to her.
She smiled at me. “Oh, we are going to the carnival at the park and I wanted to wear my grey jeans and this sweater matches perfectly,” She started to exit the closet.
“Who is we?” I laughed.
“You, me, and Piper,” She replied.
“When did you plan that?” I asked.
Gracie rolled her eyes. “Gods, you sound like my mother, Daisy. Do you want to go or not?”
“Sure, that sounds like fun,” I turned to Dominic. “Do you want to go to the carnival?”
He shrugged. “Are boys allowed on this little trip, Gracie?”
“He can come if he wants. Try to keep the smooching to a minimum, so we don’t have to hear Piper whine about it,” Gracie headed towards the door. “We are leaving after breakfast.”
“Fine,” I told her. I went back into the closet to pick out my carnival outfit. I almost wore a dress but remembered I wanted to go on the rides, so I chose a pair of blue jeans and a pink blouse. I brushed my long hair and braided it. Dominic had gone to the guest room to get dressed. I walked out of my room and headed down the hall.
Aurora began acting up in my head again, and I felt dizzy. I stumbled slightly and felt like falling to the ground, but a pair of strong arms held me up. “Are you okay, Daisy?” My father’s voice boomed behind me.
I looked up at him and shook my head. “Yeah, Daddy, I am fine,” I said as my mother walked up to us.
She placed her hand on my forehead, “Are you sure? Why are you stumbling?”
I shrugged. “I-I don’t know, Mom.”
“Should I take you to see Angela?” My mother asked.
“No, Mom, I am fine. Maybe I am just hungry,” I tried pulling away from my father.
“You aren’t pregnant, are you?” My father snarled.
I pushed him away and turned to see Dominic rushing down the hall. He looked handsome, dressed in dark jeans and a blue turtleneck. “Daisy?” He said as my father growled at him. “What?” He threw his hands up.
“Is she pregnant?” My father asked again.
Dominic looked at my father wide-eyed with his mouth agape. “Dad! I am not pregnant,” I protested. I grabbed Dominic’s hand. “I am just hungry,” I said and pulled Dominic towards the elevators. I didn’t feel like waiting for the rest of my family.
“What was that all about?” Dominic asked as the doors closed. “Why does your father think you are pregnant?”
I sighed and rubbed my forehead. Aurora was still pacing. “I just felt a little dizzy,” I answered.
He snaked an arm around my waist and pulled me to him. “Why were you dizzy? Is it because your wolf is acting all crazy?”
“How did-“
He touched my lips with a chuckle. “Because Aurora’s unease is bothering Boreas.”
The doors opened, and we walked towards the dining room. Gracie was waiting down the hall with her parents. I smiled at my aunt and uncle. “Good morning.”
“Good morning, Daisy.” Aunt Ainsley touched my arm. “You look all cute this morning.”
Uncle Titus bowed to Dominic, “Good morning, your highness.”
Dominic rolled his eyes. “Titus, you know you don’t have to call me that.”
“Force of habit and with our troubles, I figure its best to maintain formalities,” Titus said to my mate.
Dominic sighed heavily. “Let’s just go to breakfast,” He clasped my hand and led the group into the dining room. We all took our seats and waited for my parents and other siblings to arrive.
My parents walked in hand in hand while Piper sat beside me. She was dressed in her usual torn jeans and black t-shirt look. “Hey, you going to the carnival?” She asked quietly.
“Yeah,” I replied a little loud.
My father cleared his throat. “Good morning, everyone. I hope you all slept well and have a wonderfully full day. Let’s eat,” He declared and sat down.
The omegas quickly brought out breakfast, and I was relieved that it was something light. Piper looked over at our father. “Dad, can we go to the carnival in the park today?”
“You didn’t ask him yet?” I said to my sister.
Piper elbowed me. “Just me, Gracie, and Daisy,” She said.
“And Dominic,” Gracie interjected while Piper huffed.
“Why him? All he is going to do is smooch Daisy, yuck,” Piper sneered and shot Dominic a glare.
“I may also ride the roller coaster,” Dominic countered.
Our father sighed deeply. “I’m afraid I can’t let you kids leave the palace grounds today. It's too much of a risk.”
“DAD, WHY?!” Piper screamed.
He glared at her. “Don’t scream at me, Piper. I said, you can’t go, and that is final.”
“Mom?!” My sister whined to our mother.
“Quit whining, Piper. Your father already told you no. You guys are free to spend all day in the activity center.”
My sister growled and folded her arms. “That is so f*****g unfair.”
“Piper!” My father barked sharply. “Quit cussing, or you will be grounded.”
Piper scoffed loudly and stood up from the table, and stormed out of the dining room. I looked over at Gracie, who sighed. “So, what do we do now?”
“Like I said, you kids can hang out in the activity center or do something around the palace,” My mother explained.
“Can we go to the spa?” Gracie suggested.
“Well, that is on palace grounds, isn’t it?” My mother smirked.
I nodded at my cousin. “The spa sounds good,” I looked at my nails. “I could use a mani-pedi.”
“Then later, we can hang in the activity center,” Gracie said and looked down. “And I wore this cute outfit for nothing.”
“Maybe you’ll meet some cute guy at the center,” I laughed.
My cousin rolled her eyes. “Not,” She snorted. “I’m not that lucky. Cute guys, don’t look at me.”
“Oh, quit that, Grace,” Aunt Ainsley chimed in. “You are beautiful. Guys, definitely look at you. Remember that cute guy Ruben?”
Gracie sighed. “He is a vampire though,” She looked at her father. “No offense, Dad.”
Titus shrugged. “I get that you don’t want to be with a vampire. But Ruben is a good guy.”
“Isn’t he one of my father’s new enforcers?” Dominic asked.
While they were talking, I began to feel strange again. Aurora was whining and pacing. ‘What is with you today?’ I asked her.
She was silent for a minute before huffing. ‘I feel something is going to happen soon,’ Aurora finally replied.
‘Like what? An attack or something?’ I was desperate to find out why she was acting so strange. I felt a little indignant when she wouldn’t answer me.
“Daisy?” Dominic waved his hand in front of me. “Baby, are you there?”
I shook my head. “Sorry,” I sighed.
He squeezed my shoulder. “I’m not sure if you heard, but I am going to go train with Malcolm while you are at the spa with the girls.”
“Oh, okay,” I mumbled and glanced at my twin, who was looking at me with a strange expression. “What?”
“Xerxes is concerned about Aurora,” He replied. “He says she is acting strange.”
Besides Boreas, my wolf Aurora also has a close connection to Malcolm’s wolf Xerxes. Twin wolves often have a close bond, as do their wolves. It’s almost as strong as the mate bond. “She is acting strange.”
“How strange?” My mother chimed in.
I shook my head. “I don’t want to talk about it right now.”
Dominic placed his hand over mine. “Baby, we are all concerned.”
“Gracie, are you ready to go to the spa?” I asked my cousin. I was ready for this conversation to be over.
“I guess,” Gracie nodded. She stood up. “Are you coming too, Mom?”
Aunt Ainsley shook her head. “I promised your Aunt Jemma that I would help with party arrangements.”
“You are just so much better at party stuff than I am,” My mother smiled at my aunt.
“I just wish Mom was here to help,” Aunt Ainsley frowned.
My grandmother had passed away last year from a rare werewolf cancer. It devastated us all as she had been so healthy, and there was no history of cancer in her family. My grandfather has been gone on a trip around the world since her passing.
I stood up from the table and looked down at Dominic. “You have fun training with my brother,” I leaned down. “Try not to beat him up too hard.” I kissed his cheek.
“Hey!” Malcolm protested. “I heard that.”
“What?” I smirked at my twin. “I was defending you.”
Malcolm narrowed his eyes at me. “Whatever. I’ll try not to mess up pretty boy’s face too much.”
I shook my head and walked out of the dining room with Gracie. My mother had a spa built on the palace grounds for the palace staff. Being princesses, Gracie and I could just walk in any time without an appointment. We walked into the posh building, and we immediately whisked into a room for our mani-pedis. We then had a facial and massages. A few hours later and I felt better though Aurora was still acting strange.
Gracie and I walked back to the palace. “Should we go retrieve Piper from her room and drag her to the activity center?”
“Let’s eat lunch first,” My cousin replied.
“Sounds like a plan,” I said, and we headed towards the dining room. “Let’s eat in my room, though, and watch a movie or something.”
“Deal,” Gracie hooked her arm with mine.
After getting our lunch, we headed up towards my room. On the way, I stopped at Piper’s room and knocked. “Piper, it's Daisy.”
“What do you want?” She snarked from the other side.
Sighing, I opened the door. Piper was lying on her bed with her phone in her hands. She was listening to the hard rock she loves. “I didn’t say you could come in.”
“Do you want to hang out with Gracie and me in my room?” I asked my bratty sister. I held up the bag containing my lunch. “We got extra food.”
Piper sat up. “Oh f**k it,” She hopped up and ran towards me.
We walked to my room and sat on the couch. It took a bit of arguing between Gracie and Piper before we could agree on a movie. We finally settled on 50 First Dates. Gracie and I had gotten sandwiches with chips and cookies for lunch.
“Hey, should we go hang in the activity center after we eat?” Piper asked. She seemed to be in a better mood now.
“We were planning on that anyway,” I laughed.
The door to my room opened, and my half-dressed and sweaty mate walked in. He seemed agitated. “Dom?” I called to him.
“I need a shower,” He mumbled out.
I didn’t see any bruises on him, but he healed faster than regular werewolves due to his vampire side. “Did he seem grumpy to you?” I asked.
Piper scoffed. “Like I notice your mate’s moods,” She snarked.
I rolled my eyes at her.
“He seemed agitated,” Gracie said.
“Malcolm probably kicked his ass across the field,” Piper laughed. “You know how mad he gets.”
I elbowed my sister. “Stop.” I turned my attention back to the movie. I had a hard time concentrating. Not only did I sense Dominic’s agitation, but I was still dealing with an agitated wolf. I waited until I heard the shower turn off and then went into the bathroom. Dominic was drying himself off. “What’s wrong?”
He shook his head. “My father was almost assassinated today.”
“What?” I looked at him with shock. “I-Is he alright?”
“Yes,” Dominic replied.
I wrapped my arms around him and rested my face against his rock-hard chest. “Oh, Dominic, do you need to go home now?”
He stroked my back. “No.”
“But Dom?” I looked into his grey eyes. “He needs you.”
He leaned down and kissed me, “I don’t want you to miss your party.”
“There will be other parties,” I argued. “Being there for your father and kingdom is more important than a party.”
He rested his chin on the top of my head. “What did I do to deserve you?”
We stood holding each other for several minutes until someone knocked on the door. “Daisy?” Gracie called from the other side. “Is everything okay?”
Dominic released me, and I opened the door. “We’ll be right out, Gracie,” I said to her.
“Okay,” Gracie snorted.
“Hey, can you get me clothes from your closet?” Dominic asked.
I nodded and walked out of the bathroom. I grabbed some shorts and a tank top and took them back to him.
“What’s wrong with Dominic?” Gracie asked.
There was a light knock on the door, and my Aunt Ainsley poked her head in the room. “Grace, honey, your father and I need to talk to you.”
“Why?” Gracie asked her mother with a slight whine.
“You aren’t in trouble,” Aunt Ainsley told her.
Gracie turned to us. “I’ll meet you guys downstairs by the front doors, alright?”
“Okay,” I smiled at her. I turned to Dominic. “Do you want to come to the activity center with us? Blow off some steam.”
“Sure,” He replied. “I could use that.” He placed his hands on the sides of my face and kissed my lips.
“Eww,” Piper said from the couch. “I’m going to lose my lunch.”
Dominic laughed and turned to her. “Oh, come on, Piper, you are almost fourteen. You can’t tell me that you still find boys yucky.”
She smirked. “Boys are yucky. Girls, not so much.”
“Come on, Piper, let’s get downstairs and wait for Gracie,” I said and led her and Dominic out of my room. On the way down, we were joined by our mother and youngest sister.
“Where are you guys going?” Raina asked.
“You can’t come,” Piper immediately answered.
Our mother scoffed. “Piper, don’t be so mean to your sister.”
Raina stuck her tongue out at Piper. “We are going to the activity center,” I stated. “Raina can come with us,” I said to my mother.
“Yay!” Raina jumped up and down.
“Daisy!” Piper folded her arms.
“Quit being a brat, Piper,” I said to her and looked at Raina, who was about to be nine tomorrow. I held out my hand to her. “Come on, Raina.”
“Thanks, Daisy.” My mother squeezed my shoulder.
When we got downstairs, I began to feel strangely again. Aurora started pacing and whining. She was mumbling something that sounded like mate, but my mate was right beside me.
‘Mate,’ She would say.
‘Aurora, our mate is right here. What are you going on about?’ I asked her. She didn’t answer me. The group stood near the front entrance of the palace, waiting for Gracie. I caught a faint whiff of garlic, and it made me swoon. “Does anyone else smell garlic?”
They all shook their heads. “No,” Piper gave me a strange look.
I sat on a bench beside the door and leaned my head back on the wall. Aurora was going nuts, and I wanted to strangle her until she told me why she was going nuts. Dominic sat beside me with a hand on my cheek.
“Baby, talk to me. What is going on?”
I felt tears well up in my eyes. “I don’t know, Dom. I have been feeling weird all day, and Aurora won’t stop acting weird, nor will she tell me why.”
He pulled me into his arms and kissed my forehead. “It will be alright.”
Piper stood nearby, tapping her foot. “What is taking Gracie so long?”
“Her father has to leave to go back to my kingdom,” Dominic explained. “She is probably just saying goodbye.”
“I’m going to go find her,” Piper stated and stormed into the palace.
Raina sat on the other side of me while we waited. Aurora was running circles in my mind while the scent of garlic was making me crazy. I was regretting this outing and wanted to retreat to my room and take a nap.
The door opened, and Piper walked out with Gracie. The scent of garlic got stronger, and when I tried standing up, I staggered. The scent was coming from Gracie. I leaned in to sniff her.
“Why are you sniffing me?” My cousin asked with a laugh.
“You smell like garlic,” I told her.
Gracie put her hands on her hips. “What? I haven't eaten any garlic today.”
“I smell it on you,” I said to her.
Piper laughed. “You probably smell the guy she was flirting with.”
We all started walking towards the activity center. ‘Mate, go find mate.’ Aurora whimpered in my head.
‘Aurora! Dominic is right here!’ I yelled at her. I pushed into the back of my mind despite her protests. “Gracie, was flirting with a guy?” I grinned at my cousin.
“I wasn’t flirting. He was just cute.” Gracie blushed.
“You were totally flirting,” Piper argued.
I wrinkled my nose. “I thought cute guys didn’t pay attention to you,” I teased Gracie.
“He ran into me, and I fell,” Gracie explained. “Then we had an awkward conversation until Piper showed up.”
“Oooh,” I laughed.
“Shut up, Daisy. He probably already forgot about me,” She grinned.
“But you won’t forget about him,” I smiled at my cousin. “Does he have a name?”
Gracie shrugged. “Colton.”
The name made me shudder, and the strange feeling returned. I shook it off and just tried to ignore it. I wanted to enjoy the fun day with my family.
After a long day, Dominic and I retired to my room for a quiet dinner. I was thoroughly exhausted and wanted to sleep, but Dominic and I had vowed to mark each other right at midnight. But I could not shake the strange feelings I was having. Something big was about to happen to me, and I wished I knew what.
