CHAPTER FIVE Monday afternoon, I’d barely pulled into the driveway of Margot’s Airbnb rental when she came dancing out to greet me. Her hug was fierce. "Nathan! Oh, I’m so glad you’re here! Is this exciting or what?" The place was what realtors might advertise as "charming" and "intimate." But it would suit for the week. She had rented a car when she’d landed on the mainland and had already gone grocery shopping, which I really appreciated. "I’ll have to buy a car soon. Used, probably." We walked into town and stopped for a drink before dinner in the place where the bartender had told me about the Precipice. The Lompoc might have been more fun, but I wasn’t going to chance running into Drew. Not yet, anyway. Sitting at the bar, we ordered beers and raised our glasses to each other.
