The story is about a typical nuclear family. The family comprises of Mr. Mahesh Singhania, Mrs. Nita Singhania, and their two children, Neelam Singhania who is the elder daughter, and Rahul Singhania who is the younger among the two. Mr. Mahesh Singhania is a well-known businessman who owns a pharmaceutical company that was established by his father. The story begins when the Singhania family decides to go on vacation and spend some time together. They decided to spend their vacation in a place which is away from the city, and hence they choose Megh Gang a suburb in the district of Shimla Himachal Pradesh. They were enjoying their vacation to a great extent as it was after a long time that they were spending so much time together. The entire family was having a great time together and enjoying their vacation but soon this enjoyment and fun will be turned into an array of suffering for the entire family. The entire Singhania family will be greatly affected by two major events which were shortly going to happen in their lives. First, The Mysterious Disappearance of the Singhania offspring. And the mysterious murder of Mr. Mahesh Singhania which is done by a spirit or ghost according to the security guard. After two-three weeks after the children had mysteriously disappeared Mr. Mahesh Singhania had called his friend, philosopher, and guide Jignesh as he had helped him of coming out from different tough times in the past. So, he wants that Jignesh again to help him to come out from this crisis but Mr. Mahesh Singhania was murdered the same day when Jignesh arrived at the Singhania house. The local police were working on the previous case but till date, they were not able to solve it or found the children, on the other hand, another case appears in front of them which was the murder of Mr. Singhania which was quite mysterious, as according to the security guard Mr. Singhania was killed by the spirit of the Statue of the soldier which was present in the house.  Mrs. Singhania was quite a bit stressed with all these events and she was also disappointed with the efforts of the police hence she gets in touch with her father. Her father was a retired army officer and told him about the entire case. On her father's advice, she goes to meet Mr. Charles Jones who was a good friend of her father, and at the same time he was the person who had helped him in solving a case in the past. Mr. Charles Jones was a private detective and he had a good record of solving most of his cases. On the request of Mrs. Singhania, Mr. Jones agrees to work on the case.  In his investigation, Mr. Charles Jones found many interesting facts about different characters in the novel.  He founds that a person in the Singhania house was a trusted and oldest servant who was taking drugs secretly hiding from the world. He finds and discloses the person to the audience and the housemates. Mr. Jones was having a great help in the form of Jignesh who was helping him in each and every stage of the investigation. But on his future investigation, Mr. Jones founds the reality of Jignesh, his real name and identity. Apart from this, there were many other things which Mr. Jones disclose to the audience such as the secret relationship of Mr. Singhania, and someone inside the house was blackmailing him about this and taking money from Mr. Singhania for nit disclosing about the relationship and the picture of his intimate scenes to the world. Finally, Mr. Charles Jones found the Singhania children who were hidden in Megh Gang and to be precise with the premises of the Singhania house. He finally discloses that there is no such thing as a spirit in the house and which was created with the help of technology and the art of modern science. Mr. Jones also found the real culprit who was behind both the event which had happened in the Singhania house. The culprit was found in the entire novel who was openly moving around the scene and would come as a shock to the reader. Finally the novel ends with the suicide of one of the most prominent and dominated characters of the novel.
