Chapter 1

Following rules can be the best way to stay out of trouble, but what's the fun in that? I like fun. I think everyone does! I, for one, hardly ever follow the rules or listen to what people advise. I'm not a bad girl though, I just sneak to parties once in a while, socialize when I should be doing homework, ignore the advice my friends and family give and maybe even drive around without my parents' permission or a proper license. But that, my friends, is the reason why I always get into trouble. I stared at my van, mouth gaping in disbelief. "Oh no." I squeaked. The dent on the door was huge. I turned and looked around, hoping to find the car that screwed up mine but there was not a single car close by. I stomped my way into my van and angrily threw in all the shopping bags. Someone hit my van and just left? What a... a loser! Mom and dad were going to be really mad. I shivered at the thought of my dad's face after seeing the dent. My best friends Tiana and Lila smiled sympathetically. "Hey, don't worry about it! It's not that big!" Tiana said as she got into the passenger seat. "Yeah, maybe your dad won't even notice." Lila said as she jumped into the backseat along with my three other best friends, Ivana, Chanu and Nivea. "Are you kidding me? My dad's going to freak!" I yelled. "They're in Australia right now... maybe you can fix it before they get back." Tiana suggested. Ivana nodded. "Yeah, you can handle this." "Really? And where am I going to get a thousand bucks from?" I asked, starting my van and backing it out of the parking space. "My sister got into a small accident and repairing the car from that didn't cost a thousand bucks." Chanu said. "Yeah, I don't think it costs that much to fix a dent." Nivea said. "Well, I'm sure it's close to that." I grumbled. My friends and I had decided to go shopping today and I didn't think that that would be a problem at all. I was actually absolutely excited about the fact that I could drive the van around because my parents weren't here. My parents never let me drive without an adult sitting next to me. I sighed. I always knew that I should listen to them. "Maybe we should have walked." Lila said as she tied her long, black and curly hair into a ponytail. Lila was a girl who has always been a great friend. She was tall and thin with tan coloured skin. She had brown eyes and the most beautiful smile. "I suggested it." Tiana said, "No one listens to me though." She crossed her arms. Tiana had long brown, wavy hair and brown eyes. She however was short but thin with light skin. "I'm going to die when they get home." I exclaimed. "Why did they leave?" Ivana asked. Ivana was a brave and outgoing girl. She was the only one who could pull off the shoulder length black hair with brown streaks look. She was short, with tan coloured skin and had gorgeous brown eyes. "Why would they leave right before Christmas?" Tiana asked. I stopped at the red light. "It's my cousins wedding. Remember, the one that I don't like." My friends laughed. "Which is why you didn't go?" Tiana asked. I nodded. "Duh?" "Aw, that's mean, it's her wedding." Nivea said. Nivea was a fair skinned girl who loved to be positive. She had green eyes, brown hair and she usually wore glasses. I have always thought of her as one of the prettiest girls in the world. I shrugged. "Hey, she was in Canada when I was doing my sweet sixteen and she didn't come to it. Why should I travel all the way down to Australia to go to her wedding?" "Wedding, Aathiray! Wedding!" Chanu said. Chanu was a dark skinned girl with an adorable face. She had long, silky black hair with brown streaks, a nose piercing and a lovely smile. She was the thinnest out of all of us and she also looked good in anything. I shrugged again. "Besides, you should see the guy, he looks like one of those wannabe gangsters that sleep with a different girl every weekend." I said, as I turned left. "And not to mention the fact that my parents didn't want to go anyway, you know how my mom's whole family has something against them." "Wow. Harsh." Ivana said. "No, not harsh. They're all so mean! They totally deserve what they are getting. My mom only went because it's her nieces wedding. Two of my mom's other brothers decided not to go." I remembered the time that my cousins from Britain told me why everyone hated them. One reason was that they don't care about anyone but themselves. My mom told me that it's not really her brother's fault. It's her brother's wife's fault. Apparently she's some stuck up woman who only likes to sit back, read magazines and gossip. A grown woman's life shouldn't work like that. "Okay, forget about that. Did you talk to Chris recently?" Nivea asked. I frowned. "No, why?" "You know damn well why." Lila said. I heard Tiana, Ivana and Nivea giggle. "Guys. He doesn't like me." I said. I thought about the super hot Chris Stark, the boy I've had a crush on for a long time. And not only was he hot, but he was nice, sweet and smart too. "He does! I mean he's always flirting with you!" Tiana said. "No. Way. Period. Have you guys forgotten about Celia?" I asked. I then thought of Celia, the super beautiful slut that Chris seems to have a thing for. I knew my friends were thinking the same thing. The last thing I wanted was to be reminded of the guy that I liked, who would never like me back. My day had just gotten worse. "Am I dropping you guys off at home?" I asked. "Your brother didn't go, right?" Lila asked. "No, he didn't... why?" "Then hell. Take us to your place." Lila said with a serious expression. I laughed. "He's probably not home." "What?!" Chanu exclaimed. All my friends frowned. "Why?" Lila sighed. "That hot ass brother of yours is never home." Tiana said, sighing as well. "Are you lying to us to keep us away from him?" Ivana asked, raising an eyebrow. I laughed again. "No, I'm not. You guys can come over if you want. I'm just sure he's not home though." "Screw it." Tiana said. "Yeah, take us home." Nivea sighed. I smiled and turned into Lila's street. The December holidays had finally started and for some reason, it sucked. Nothing good has happened yet. So far, I accidently dropped my favourite vase, burned myself, broke my nail, ripped one of my favourite dresses, lost my USB and now, screwed up my dad's van. There was five days till Christmas and I still haven't started decorating, even if there's no reason to really decorate. I mean, the only people in my house right now were my brother and I... and my cat. My cat... I parked the van into my driveway and jumped out. I quickly opened my front door, eager to see my cat. But he wasn't there. I frowned. He was always at the door when I came. I stepped into my house. "Kero?" I called, taking off my shoes and jacket. No response. Strange, he always responded when I called him. I walked into my living room, "Kero?" I called again as I put all the shopping bags on the couch. I looked around my living room, "Kero? Where are you?" I called. Suddenly, I heard a thump. Startled, I turned around and saw my cat walk up to me. I crossed my arms. "Kero. You scared me." I said, as he jumped into my arms. I held him up to my face. He smiled. 'Sorry.'
