  "You're brooding," David said softly. He took steps towards my desk.   "Ellis, we -" I bit my tongue hard after that name escaped escaped my lips. David stopped in his tracks, his eyes were ferocious.   "Ellis?" he scoffed, crossing his arms against my chest. I went to him instantly, holding his arms.   "I'm sorry," I apologized for calling him Ellis. David was heaving.   "I was thinking about him because of the kids, and his name left my lips," I was rumbling my words now.
