1st PERSON: Pelomina Lorenzo-Capiz
Once again, morning came, and I was pretty energetic. The sun beamed brightly and warmly as expected, and it still felt like today was going to be a good day. Because today I will be attempting to escape. I spent the whole night trying to memorize the possible routes I’ll take to keep out of Lykus's radar.
Which means I have to leave town. Is there any way I can get money around here? What about jewelry? Can I sell jewelry, maybe swap it for a good sum, then again, what is a good sum? How much money would a person need to get out of this place? Maybe I should ask Polly about that. She wouldn't think that's weird, right?
She could just chalk it up to another case of snobby rich nobles not having a grasp of how money revolves in the real world and it'll be just fine. I just need a basis, a number, so I could get myself a good bargain. Then again, I don't know the extent of Polly's knowledge about this. Does the average person who works inside a castle know as much as someone who lives outside or in town?
‘I love how the cogs in my brain are finally turning.’
I guess the more I think, the more my brain gets the work out that it definitely needed years ago. I shouldn’t be too confident though, whatever way I’ll think of to get out of this place, I need to realize that things could always turn for the worst. I was also starting to wonder if there’s been a previous case of the Lady Vaustero running away.
There doesn’t seem to be because everyone just knows she’s kind and she’s always around. So hopefully they wouldn’t see this coming.
However, to cut my train of thought short, the door opened, revealing my three attendants, another day, and another dress that they will probably fight over. As usual, Keion fixed up my hair, but she didn’t do much, not like those intricate braids and styles, just a half-ponytail and some of those hair ornaments.
“Will you be seeing the lord off?” Java asked as she and Eustace helped me with the finishing touches of the dress.
I hummed. Glancing outside to see that it’s still pretty early, for some reason I thought that they were going to leave before sunrise, still, I suppose this is my chance to possibly see the knights wearing their armor so I nodded, “Can I?” I asked,
Eustace waved me off with a scoff, “Of course, the lord would definitely be thrilled,” she said and I only smiled in return,
They’d probably be shocked to know that the lord, in truth, would not be thrilled to see as they leave, but rather than keeping them up to status with my, no not mine, Lady Pelomina and Lykus’s failure of a marriage. I chose to just let them live the same fantasy as Polly.
They led out front and—OH YEAH! THIS IS IT!
When I think of knights, THIS is what I mean. My mouth was left agape as my jaw dropped at the sight. The scene was beyond magnificent and it almost seemed like they paid the sun to give them ethereal lighting. Everyone was wearing shiny, glistening dark silver armor, and the way its sheen was blinding was another crucial factor.
Even the horses had some sort of armor on them. I also loved how the horses weren’t one single color. There was an assortment of colors with gold and blue-colored reins. This is what I mean when I say I want to see them in their element. They looked so cool! I don’t recognize them since they also have those head covers with the feather-like thing at the top of their headpiece, with a deep royal blue color.
Their swords were right in their hilts and while all of them have an average-sized bow and arrows set to the sides of the horse, there are some knights who have extremely long ones, I suppose these are the long-ranged archers, that’s so freaking awesome. I also noticed that while everyone was wearing a white cape, there are exceptions. Some have a one-sided cape, it’s only draped on one shoulder so I don’t know if that’s on purpose, but it seems like the few people who had it on wore them in the same way.
They were in different colors too. I suppose that must mean something because not everyone was wearing it.
‘I wonder why they’re waiting around in here.'
A loud trumpet horn made my heart jolt and my whole body jerked with the shock, along with that was the answer to my question, as Lykus strode into the scene. His bearskin cape making another appearance under an enormous set of armor that’s made just right for him, and although it’s not noticeable, under the bearskin was a normal royal blue cape.
‘Is royal blue the castle colors, or does he just like the color?’
His hair is still in braids but now for additional ease, it’s also in a ponytail gathered in one place, a large sword on his hips and his horse is—is that a freaking dragon?
I looked around to see if there was anyone else that sees the four-legged creature, covered with scales, it looks like a lion and it even has a main but its face got this reptile-like touch to it, its tail was long and thick with spiked ridges on the top, it was huge needless to say and the claws are so protruding to the points that they looked like talons.
“Lily is beautiful and frightening as ever,” Java noted, spawning beside me,
I frowned at her and looked at the creature. She can’t mean the dragon, right? I mean frightening, yes, but beautiful? Well, it sure is magnificent. I’ll give her that. I just didn’t say anything in response and as Lykus walked over to the creature, he raised his hand to pet it gently and connected their foreheads.
‘...huh,’
I’ll be darned. Looks like he’s fond of that creature… what is it exactly? All I know is that it’s named Lily, so I suppose she’s a girl or a boy. It could be anything, really. I’ve seen women given the most masculine of names and vice versa, but ‘Lily’ for such a creature is kind of… adorable.
‘Who thought of that, that’s so cute,’
Lykus looked around and for some reason, even with the number of people that watched the whole brigade, his and my eyes still met by some chance. He scoffed and looked away, giving the amount of attitude equivalent to his height. Even with this distance, I could hear and see just how he snickered.
“That’s just mature,” I muttered,
But to my dismay, it didn’t end with just that. Instead, he rode the dragon-like creature and trotted to me, stopping just mere feet away, “How kind of the lady of the house to see his men off,” he noted and I huffed with a curtsy.
“Good to see you, lord Lykus,” I replied. From what I learned, I’ve taken the route of aversion instead of confrontation when it comes to him and for everyone else in that matter.
“Really? I suppose you’re excited,” he replied,
“Pardon?” I asked back. What am I supposed to be excited about? Am I coming with them?
“Well, I’m leaving, you’ll have time to see that escort of yours,” he noted with a sneer,
‘Oh, that,’
I sighed and closed my eyes briefly, taking hold of my emotions and keeping myself in check because I better not lose myself in this discourse. I’m so over this topic. I shook my head, “I have no escort… but I wish you luck, lord Lykus,” I replied and he huffed, finally ending this awkward spat as he reared the creature away and they left the palace.
Marching on and leading his army to where ever they’re heading.
After that little commotion, everyone who stayed around to watch the scene all returned to their own chores and minded each other’s business. I looked beside me to see if Java was still beside but apparently, that was not the case. I looked around to see if there was anyone else who could help me around,
I could always go and move around on my own, anyways. I could just head back to my room and make preparations, I really should try to get all the things sorted out so it won’t be difficult if I’m back on getting right it, I’ll need to find Polly and loan that dress for ‘sewing’ practice. As I walked through grand hall after grand hall, I finally reached my room and see Polly’s familiar figure right at my door.
“Polly?” I called out, and she spun to meet my eyes and bowed deep,
“Good morning, my lady,” she greeted. I gave her a slight curtsy and opened my bedroom doors, beckoning her in,
“Yes, good morning Polly, I was just thinking of finding you,” I noted and she chuckled as she raised a letter,
“Well, look no further, my lady, I only fetched this letter for you. I was debating whether I should even hand it to you,” she began,
