It's Just Tea

Sophia I'm confused about what Eric meant when he said he'd make sure I don't forget his name. It's not a big deal, but it's on my mind; I told Eric I wanted to finish my run before we grab a hot beverage. He suggested we meet at the park entrance after completing our run. After running for about 20 minutes, I finally completed my daily exercise routine. Feeling satisfied and accomplished, I headed towards the park's main entrance. As I approached, I noticed my Eric standing there, eagerly awaiting my arrival. He greeted me with a warm smile; he was so handsome. I need to put a stop to this. I'm not interested in pursuing a romantic relationship or dating right now. This is just two people getting together for a casual cup of tea and nothing more than that. I don't want to lead Eric on or give him the wrong impression, I said to myself again; it's only a cup of tea. "You made it! Honestly, I didn't think you would show up", Eric said. I had considered not going, but Eric had been kind to me, and I didn't want to disappoint or make him feel bad. "I considered it for a moment, but I realized that I'm not the kind of person who can make a commitment and not follow through with it," I explained to Eric honestly. "I'm happy you did show up; there is a coffee shop just two blocks away where we could have a hot beverage and chat," he told me. Eric led the way as we strolled towards the coffee shop. The sun shone bright, and birds chirping was a melody to my ears. We walked through the busy street, taking in the sights and sounds of the city. We turned left on the corner, and there it was - the coffee shop. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted through the air, making my mouth water with anticipation. We went inside and were greeted by the friendly barista, who welcomed us with a warm smile. The interior of the coffee shop was filled with cozy chairs and tables, giving off a relaxed vibe. As we placed our orders, I couldn't help but feel content and at ease in this bustling yet peaceful atmosphere. We found ourselves a cozy spot by the window to enjoy the breathtaking scenery outside. The warm and inviting aroma of freshly brewed coffee and tea wafted through the air as we eagerly awaited the arrival of our drinks. The skilled barista swiftly prepared our orders, impressing us with his impeccable timing. Eric gallantly offered to get our drinks. He opted for a steaming cup of coffee while I chose a soothing cup of tea. We sipped on our beverages, basking in tranquility and admiring the picturesque landscape outside. "So Sophia, have you been running in the park long? I've never seen you before until Friday", he asked me. "I've just started last week, what about you? I asked him. He confided in me that he had been jogging in the park for a considerable amount of time now and couldn't help but express his fondness for it - in his opinion, it was undoubtedly the finest park in the entire city. During our conversation, we consciously avoided personal details and instead focused on lighthearted topics. We discussed various subjects, from our favorite hobbies to current events, and shared our thoughts and ideas. Our conversation was easygoing and comfortable, and we laughed and enjoyed each other's company. Overall, it was a pleasant experience that left us feeling more connected and understood. We were having such great conversations, we both didn't notice the time. It was already passed lunchtime time which meant we had been talking for more than 2 hours now. Despite my initial reluctance to join him earlier, I felt happy that I decided to attend and spend time with him. "Since it's passed noon, would you like to get a late lunch with me, Sophia", he offered me. At this point, I didn't want to lead him on even further than I already had. "As much as that sounds nice I have to take a rain check Eric; I have some errands that need to be done", I told him, which was true. His expression changed from smiling to a serious, straight face once I told him that I would take a rain check. "Another time then Sophia, I hope to see you again at the park," he said. I was starting to feel a little nervous but I should be honest with him. "Eric I. I'm not looking to date anyone or a relationship for that matter, I don't want to wait your time", I explained to him. "Sophia, you don't have to explain yourself, we are just two adults just enjoying each other's company, however, I would like to enjoy more of your company in the future", Eric said. I smiled at him and told him that the next time I would be running at the park would be on Friday. Eric responded by letting me know he would see me then. Getting up from our comfortable seats to pay the barista for the beverages, Eric offered to pay even though I had to protect against it. I know setting the record straight right now is for the best, I've been hurt and used before, as well as wasted four years with a man who I know now didn't appreciate me. After leaving the coffee shop, Eric and I said goodbye as he lifted my right hand to kiss softly. I was shocked and unprepared for that reaction but it was nice. Parting ways with Eric and then got back home once I went grocery shopping. Once I put all the items away, I took a shower and laid down on my bed thinking about Eric. Was it the right move for me to go out with him or even have a full-on conversation that lasted so long? I was at war with myself on what to do, however it would be nice to see him again.
