Deni
Maybe I’m overdressed, I think as I stare at myself in the mirror. The suit jacket is a bit much, but I really want to come off as strong and capable. I don’t want her to think that just because my pack needs an alpha I am unable to lead. I just need an alpha that’s all – and she might be the very thing we need.
“She’s going to like you,” Mina say staring at me in the mirror.
I groan, because she won’ let me get dressed in peace. Since I came up here to get ready, she’s parked herself on my bed, and watched me put on one shirt after another as if I was the most interesting thing in the world.
Our alpha will be here soon and she is hanging around instead of going down to the kitchen and making sure that our lunch will be ready. She’s here gawking at me.
“Isn’t there something you should doing?” I ask her turning my eyes to my hair. Maybe I should have taken the time to get a haircut. I shake my head, because there is nothing I can do about that now. I run my hand in my hair wishing it wasn’t so curly.
It makes me look feminine.
Don’t start now, Deni, I internally groan because if I start going down that road I’m going to be critical of everything and I’ll be a nervous wreck by the time Haven arrived.
“I have everything taken care of. Your lunch will be served as soon as you and Haven talk a bit,” she says giving me eyes.
I guess she’s not going anywhere.
I ignore her and pull at my clothes making sure my white shirt sat just right under my black jacket. My jeans were new and looked good on me – if I say so myself.
Yes, we will talk and then have lunch.
I know a welcome lunch is a bit too much, but…I want to make a good impression. Make her feel welcome.
I give myself one last look. I am as ready as I’ll ever be. Mina gets up and we walk out of my room, and down the hallway. Cory comes running up the stairs before we reach them.
Excitement comes off of him in waves, and his blue eyes shine bright.
“A truck is coming up the driveway. I think it’s her,” he says jumping from one foot to another like a child.
My heart slams into my ribs at the sound of the car coming up the drive way. I stop at the top of the stairs as it stops.
Cory and Mina run down the stairs. But she stops at the bottom when she realizes that I’m not following.
“Come on,” she says laughing happily.
I force myself to move. And I am at the bottom of the stairs when I hear the sound of a door open and close. My body suddenly vibrates at the sound. I shake off the quaking sensation and almost collide with Mina and Cory as they stand frozen at the front door.
I try to look around them to get my first glimpse of the alpha. But something feels off. My heart hammers in my chest and my skin feels like I’ve just walked through an electric charged force field, that cause it to be sensitive and tingly.
What the hell? I stare down at my hands wondering what is going on with me.
“What…?” I say as I push Mina to the side so I can see her walking up the steps that lead to the front door. Mina moves, but she looks like she seen a ghost.
I look down the drive way and almost fall to my knees as my wolf ripples through me as if pushing to get out.
Huh…I tighten my hold on him as I stare at the man walking up the stairs. He has long black hair that comes to his shoulder, and the most handsome face I have ever seen. He has that rough utterly confident look that a selected few can pull off. He is dressed in jeans, a jean jacket, with a simple white t-shirt. A large duffel bag hangs off his shoulder as if it weighs nothing.
Fuck…he’s like my wet dream come true. My c**k twitches in my pants, but I force myself to concentrate on what is happening. Even though I don’t know what is happening?
What’s happening?
“Wha…wha…” I try to string a sentence together but I can’t seem to make my brain work. He comes to a stop in front of us, and his scent chooses that moments to waft my way and fills my nostrils and senses.
Two things happen that I wish to the goddess are not true. He smiles at us, as if he can’t sense the tension swirling around us. And he proceeds to introduce himself.
“Hi, I’m Haven of the Blackthorn pack,” he says. His voice is dark, deep and rich and it does something to me.
I completely blank out as the word I never thought I would hear drops into my brain like a hot potato.
Mate.
I almost take a step back as my wolf reaches out to him, wanting to get close to him.
No…
“Uhhh…nice to meet you,” I can feel Mina’s eyes on me. She moves aside, giving me room to greet our guest. And my…
Oh goddess I can’t even say it.
What the hell is going on?
He was supposed to be a woman. I chose a woman; I think as I stare at his handsome face already longing for him in a way I never longed for anyone.
I gasp as the yearning takes root in me, and my wolf fights me to reach for him. He’s our mate after all.
But this can’t be.
An awkward silence follows as Mina and Cory wait for me to say something. But I really don’t know what to say. I wasn’t expecting this.
“Yes, I must say Haven is such an unusual name for a male,” Cory says awkwardly. Haven laughs as if he gets that all the time. His grey eyes sparkle in an enticing way that has me mesmerized.
Oh damn…I’m doomed.
Mina places her hands around my shoulders and drags me forward. I bite my lip as his sparkly eyes focus on me.
“This is Deni of the Olive pack, this is his pack. You’ll be leading us with him,” she says.
We stare at each other for a few seconds. And I see the minute what she says clicks in his mind.
I hold my breath wait for him to say something.
