Patience, dude

Xander Anika had left the door open a litte, so we could clearly hear their conversation. Initially, I thought she ran away when she realised that I had come to have breakfast in the restaurant. But when I learnt the real reason for her sudden disappearance, I was barely able to contain my rage. My muscles tensed and Axe growled in fury when I heard what had happened to her in her work place. Someone assaulted her while I was in the restaurant! It was a pity that even with my lycan hearing, I couldn't hear what was going on inside. Perhaps because the dining area was too far away from the storeroom she mentioned. Anyway, I learned the pervert was taken away by the police. We better not interfere with the work of the law enforcement forces of the humans, so he wasn't someone I should worry about as long as he was locked up. Nonetheless, I liked it that Jasper's fairy mate was threatening to punish that loser as soon as he was set free. All I knew was, even if she didn't, I would make sure that he regretted what he did. "That fucker! He had the nerve to touch her!" Axe kept grumbling in between his gritted teeth. It was hard to keep my lycan under control. Since we were in human territory, I couldn't let my lycan surface. That might result in a massive crisis. "Your Highness, please," Jasper worriedly glanced at my clenched fists. He must have understood that I was agitated. Besides, since I was a royal, my aura must be frightening to him. "We don't want to scare her. She may be aware of the existence of the magical world, but she might get scared if she sees you angry. I don't think she remembers anything," he said. "What did your mate say about her?" "That they met on a voyage to the human world. They think that she is a human who has lost her memory. She was taken to the dragon kingdom by the dragon king. She somehow managed to escape after…" Frowning, "after what?" I asked when he trailed off. He hesitated, yet continued to speak. "After the dragon king forced an abortion. And now she is hiding from them." My eyes grew wide. Forced an abortion? Which meant that she was once pregnant? But to whom? Could it be Cadmus? The dragon royals weren't like us. They had a massive appetite for s*x. Though I never saw any proof, the stories of the king's massive harem was a popular tale. Could Danisha have been part of that harem? Did the dark witch sell my Danisha to that perverted dragon? I shuddered at the thought. The sound of their footsteps told me that the girls were coming out. I glanced at the door. She looked fabulous. She didn't need make-up to look beautiful. She had clear skin, long eyelashes and full lips that I would love to claim. I scrutinised her features. Her large blue eyes and long eyelashes were just how I remembered them to be like. Yet her blond hair was dyed black and curled. Her tresses cascaded down her back and I couldn't help but wish that I could stroke her soft hair like I used to. I supposed that it was part of her attempt to hide from the dragons. Honestly, it didn't make much difference to me. During the whole time, I couldn't help but study her. It was her. There was no doubt. She was still her jovial self, except that sometimes she seemed to be a bit reserved. Out of all the mystical creatures, I never liked the dragons. However, now I had a good reason to loathe them. I enjoyed the carnival. It was fun, especially since I got to spend the day with her. Though it wasn't really a date, I wanted to treat it like one. Perhaps, a double date with Jasper and his mate. I loved it when she grabbed my hands in the ride with lots of twists and turns. I wished it had more twists than it already did because each time she squeezed my hand a bit. If only I could hold her closer… It was a little disappointing though. I wished that I felt the sparks that proved that we were fated together. Yet, it wasn't there. "Perhaps if you dance naked on the top of Mount Everest on a full moon night, it might work," Axe suggested, and I almost shoved him to the back of my mind. "Not happening dude," I groaned through our link. "I was just joking," he replied. "But seriously though, there must be something we can do." I agreed with him. I wanted to break the curse as soon as possible, but I didn't know how. I would have to find a way to do it. Anyway, in the meantime, I would rather try to capture her interest. If I had to make her fall in love with me the human way, I would. Because once upon a time, we were a thing. She may have forgotten that part of her life, but I wanted to believe that our love was still deeply embedded in her heart. Perhaps, her heart might recall our pure love. When she agreed to let me take her home, I almost jumped for joy. Finally, I got to have some time alone with her. What caught me by surprise was that she knew that I was the lycan Prince. But that only made it a little easier for me. I went back to the hotel I stayed in, mentally rejoicing for the little progress I made. She had agreed to see me. She allowed me to visit her in her work place and her home. Though small, I was proud of the growth of our connection. When I went to my room, I took my phone to see twenty nine missed calls and ten text messages from mom. I told her that I had found her via text before leaving, but hadn't looked at my phone ever since I left for Jasper's place. "She must be freaking out," I chuckled while dialing her number. As I expected, she picked up the call and shrieked as soon as she did. "Alexander Rias Conor! Why weren't you responding to my calls and texts?" "I was out, mom," I said. "You can still pick your phone," she retorted. "My phone was on silent mode and I didn't take it from my pocket the whole day. I was kind of busy," I told her. "Busy doing what?" I told her about my day. She and dad listened to me intently. We spoke for about an hour. After wishing me luck and promising me that they would inform Danisha's parents that she was finally found, they ended the call. Breathing out a sigh of relief, I prepared to go to sleep. "I wish she gave us her number," Axe mumbled. "Same dude. But baby steps. We have to make her trust us first," I told my lycan. Just as we were about to go to sleep, my phone dinged, indicating that I received a new message. At first I intended to ignore it, thinking that it was another message from mom, or dad. I hoped to check it and reply to them in the morning, but when I saw that it was from an unknown number, I tapped on the screen. I had a lovely time with you. There was no name but I instantly knew that it was her. At least, I wanted to believe that it was. I felt like a hormonal teenager who's crush just texted him. Grinning like a fool, I furiously typed on my phone to send her a reply. Me too. When can I see you again? Tomorrow? I hit send, and waited, hoping that she would reply. Minutes ticked by, but the reply never came. "She most probably fell asleep," Axe mumbled and I nodded my head, wanting to believe him. I wanted to remain optimistic. I stared at the screen of my phone for a while and typed another message for her. Sleep well, beautiful. I'll see you tomorrow evening. After contemplating on whether I should or shouldn't add a heart emoji to the text, I decided to add it and hit send before I changed my mind. I didn't know how she would infer that text. Anyway, I needed to clarify what I really wanted. I wanted to be more than friends. I was after her love. I couldn't be just friends with her. How could I, when each time I saw her, my heart did somersaults in my rib cage? Each time she smiled, I got butterflies in my stomach. How could I see her as just a friend when her scent drove me crazy. Though it was fainter than it used to be, it reminded me of the beautiful times we shared. The days we ditched training so that we could go on a movie date. The nights I sneaked out the palace, just to see her before she went to sleep. The times she kissed me under the star studded sky. I heaved a deep breath. I wanted all of that back. I wanted my Danisha back. If only I could make her fall for me again. "Patience, human. I'm sure we will get there," Axe mumbled before retreating to the back of my mind. *** "Dude! When are we going to see her!" Axe grumbled in my head for the nth time ever since we woke up. I barely slept during the night. I ended up lying awake for most of it. Danisha's memories kept me awake. I was feeling restless and so was my lycan. But I knew we had to be patient. "We will go to her place when she returns home. Just a little while more," I told him. "But we can follow her. Why can't we see her in the restaurant and at home?" "I don't want them to think that I am stalking her. We can't follow her everywhere, Axe. We have to be patient," I explained. "Fine!" He finally gave in. "But remember to take her white lilies. They were her favourite." He was right. Danisha loved white lilies. "And a box of chocolates," I added, taking my phone and staring at its screen. Disappointed, I placed the phone back into my pocket. I was hoping that she would reply to me in the morning, but that text never came. Regardless, I was determined to see her in the evening, just like I told her. I would persist in my efforts to gain her attention and eventually succeed. The minutes seemed to drag by. I couldn't wait for the clock to strike four in the evening. Her shift would end by then. I had bought a large bouquet of lilies and a box of her favourite chocolates and as soon as her clock struck four, I raced towards her apartment complex. "She might not be here yet. Give her some time to relax," Axe remarked. I took his advice and went for a ride to kill sometime. But when the clock struck five, I couldn't wait any longer. I sped back to her place, parked the car in the parking lot, and sniffed the air. Her scent faintly hung in the air. I followed my nose. It took me to the tenth floor of the building. Trusting my instincts, I knocked on the fourth door and waited. I was right. When she opened the door, my lips stretched, but when her eyes landed on me, she froze. "Hey," I greeted her. "H..hey," she timidly greeted back. "May I come in?" "S… sure…" I gave her the flowers and chocolate, but when I caught the scent of another person, I snapped my head to the middle aged lady sitting on the couch. "I see you have visitors," she mumbled standing up. "So, I will see you later." She walked away. I didn't like the way she glared at me and then at Danisha, nor the disrespectful tone of her voice. Just as she was about to exit the front door, I noticed that the lady had left her purse on the couch. "Zara, she left something," I said. "Oh, shoot!" She whispered and whisked to take it. "Mrs. Appleton, you have left your purse!" She said as she ran after the lady dressed in a floral coat and skirt. I carefully studied the lady's demeanour. There was something off about that human. I just didn't like the vibes she was giving, so I used my lycan hearing to listen to what she was telling Danisha. "You better withdraw the charges against Liam. Or else, I promise you that I will ruin you completely. Liam is an only child. He doesn't even have to work. He is the sole heir of the entire Appleton Company of Hotels. But that poor lad keeps going to that stupid restaurant just so he can see you. Be grateful that he is even casting a second glance at your hideous face!" She hissed into Danisha's face and stormed out of the flat, most probably thinking that I wouldn't hear a word she whispered.
