Several hours later, after the moment had passed and they’d eaten their burgers, when they’d said good night, and gone into their respective houses, following the half hour or so Thom had taken to watch the advancing trail of lights flick on and off through Justin’s home, leading from the front door to what had to be Justin’s bedroom, Thom wasn’t nearly as happy that the moment had ended so abruptly. Typically, now that the panic was done and the fear was gone, his mind was wandering down the path of every other possible scenario that moment might have finished on. What might have happened if the burgers hadn’t been on the grill? After all, in one single sentence Justin had made it seem pretty clear that he’d been interested in pursuing something more than just conversation and companions
