CHAPTER 6 I GAZED OUT of the window as we drew further away from the model agency, the Lincoln Center, and my apartment. Into the unknown. Or, as it turned out, into a vast, loft-like space filled with dead things. Professor Ito met us at the door wearing a set of surgical scrubs and greeted Ishmael as if he were an old friend.
