Tyron.
After parking the car at the entrance of my home, I let out a deep breath as my eyes found themselves wandering to the girl I had just brought with me.
She was asleep with her head resting on the car seat; honestly, I couldn't make out what to do with her.
Despite being very mad at her family for deceiving me into accepting her as my mate, I found myself not blaming her for any of it.
If anything, Kade was happy to have her around. Kade is my wolf, and he can be very picky with his type of woman, but there seems to be an exception when it comes to her.
She wasn't exactly what you might call beautiful at the moment due to her old haggard clothes, and her skin wasn't exactly like I would have wanted it.
But those were not things I couldn't change if I wanted to. But at the same time, I also do not want her to think that she and her family succeeded in tricking me.
There was something about her that made me want to keep her close; maybe it is her beautiful after-rain earthly smell that just kind of relaxes you when you are close to her.
I was still staring at her when I saw Felix walking towards the car. Felix has been my beta and longtime best friend for several years.
On seeing her, I noticed he furrowed his brows in surprise as he returned his gaze to me for an explanation.
I got out of the car, leaving the air conditioning on, as I didn't feel the need to wake her up.
"What is going on?" Felix asked me as his eyes returned to the sleeping girl in my car.
"What do you mean?" I calmly asked him, not exactly trying to act dumb, but to get his first opinion about her.
"I thought you wanted their daughter; why did you come with their maid?" He asks, unable to take off his surprised look.
Him calling her a maid sort of pricked my heart in a way that made me a little sad.
"How do you know she is their maid?" I questioned.
"She was the one I saw doing the dishes and cleaning the kitchen last night when you asked me to check who was in the kitchen," he answered.
My eyes instinctively went back to her, and I couldn't help but think how mad I was going to be with her when I find out that she was a maid.
Not that her being a maid is bad, but that she did not tell me she was one when she had the opportunity to.
"They told me she is their daughter; the other one that I was going for is engaged to be married to someone else," I said, as I tried not to bother myself about the allegations.
I walked past him and headed into the house, while he followed from behind.
"Those bastards—we should wage a war against them and overtake their pack," Felix said, obviously angered by the deceit.
"Yeah, we will do that after you find out that they lied and that she is not their daughter," I answered.
"And even if she happens to be their daughter, she is not fit for what you need her for, she can't be your luna" he contested.
I was about to reply to him when we were interrupted by my head maid.
"Good day, Alpha, Serah greeted me with her head slightly bowed just when we were about taking the stairs.
"Good day, Sarah. Please, there is someone in my car. See to it that she is comfortable and ask Zane to get her some clothes," I instructed.
“Yes, alpha," she answered, bowing swiftly before walking away.
"I don't understand. What are your plans for this girl?" Felix asked me as we both took the stairs.
"Honestly, I don't think I have an answer for you right now," I answered dismissively.
"But you are not thinking of anything funny, are you?" he questioned.
His question made me stop in my tracks as I turned to look at him.
"What do you mean by funny?" I asked, trying to form ignorance to what he was going to say.
"I mean, you are not thinking of mating her, are you?"
"And what if I am?" I questioned him sternly, getting bothered by his endless questions.
"Nothing; it's just that it might be a repetition of what has happened before," he said, picking his words carefully and saying each word at a time.
I sighed deeply as my mind slowly drifted to what he was talking about. Even though I hate to admit it, it almost feels like Devaju.
But unlike the first time it happened, I do not think I like this girl that much. I might say I feel sorry for her, but liking her is not something I was sure of.
Moreover, it was not like I was interested in any steady relationship; yes, I needed an heir to keep my position as the alpha king, but I don't think I was prepared for anything else.
"Trust me, Felix, you are thinking this too far. She is a guest and should be treated as one. Now if you are done coaching me on what my potential mate should look like, why don't you fill me in on the errand I sent you this morning?" I said to him as I opened the door leading to my office on the fourth floor.
We both walked into my office and I sat on my chair while he stood to address me.
While he was talking, my mind slowly drifted to the girl, whose name I couldn't seem to remember.
I couldn't even understand why I was so fascinated with her, owning to the fact that I only just met her.
Felix, mildly clearing his throat, told me he was done talking and was waiting for me to say something.
But since I wasn't exactly listening to what he was saying, I decided to ask him a question that would summarize all that he had said.
"So what is your suggestion?" I questioned him, trying my best to pay him my full attention this time.
"I think you should pay the pack a visit to ascertain things for yourself, alpha."
"Okay, we will do that tomorrow; why don't you try to make the arrangements and ensure that all is set for the trip?” I said to him.
“Yes, Alpha,” he replied.
He was about walking away when I stopped him with a question that was completely out of nowhere.
“Do you think I need to change my look?” I questioned, and I only realized the dumbness of my question after the words left my lips.
Felix was dazzled by my question as he turned sharply to look at me.
"Never mind, I mean, I was just thinking out loud," I said dismissively to him, and even though he didn't look convinced, he knew better than to ask questions.
As soon as he left my office, my wolf started laughing really hard in my head, making me aware of the fact that he must have prompted me to ask that question.
That was not nice, I said to him.
Oh, shut up; I was only echoing your deepest thoughts, he said.
Yes, it was true that I had been quietly thinking of what she said about not liking men with beards.
But never would I have asked my beta for an opinion of how I looked; it was all shades of wrong and doesn't speak well of me.
“Oh, relax. You think Felix doesn't know that you might be attracted to your new muse,”/ Kade questioned teasingly.
“I have not said I was attracted to her; maybe you are, but I am not sure of my feelings,” I said defensively.
"Yet she is constantly in your thoughts," he responded.
“That doesn't mean anything,” I refuted.
“Is that the lie you tell yourself to keep yourself from having a connection with her? You need to move on from the past and appreciate the things happening around you. You can't keep hanging in the past." he said.
“But what if you are constantly reminded of it? Ashley was my mate, and I couldn't even protect her. What are the chances of me being able to protect someone else that I have no such bond with?” I questioned.
"You need to forgive yourself and let go. Yes, it is true that we could have done so much more to protect our mate, but don't forget that every single person in this pack and beyond played a part in what happened to her."
“And that was because I allowed it,” I said, as I subconsciously tightened my fist on the table due to anger that was building up in me.
"Mistakes are made to learn new ways of not doing things; forgive yourself, Tyron," he said before shutting me out.
I sighed deeply as I was once again left with my thoughts.
