Tuesday morning Callum was waiting at the side of the classroom block just out of sight for Kelly to be dropped off.
Yesterday’s run had helped him calm down and think more rationally but he still hoped not to see the woman who had picked her up any time soon, just to be safe.
Luckily, it was a man dropping her off. Callum could only assume that was her father. And the woman who had picked her yesterday was her step mother. He watched her step away from the car. She stood and watched the car until it had disappeared from sight before she moved to walk towards the senior classroom block.
Callum stepped out in front of her and effectively halted her movement. She startled and stepped back before she realized who it was.
“Geez! You planning to give me heart attack?” she asked with a hand to her chest.
Callum smiled and reached out to get her bag from her shoulder. “Nope, just thought I would walk you to class, that’s all.”
She let him have the bag and smiled up at him as they started to walk together. Callum did not miss the quick glance she threw over her shoulder towards the car park as though to make sure the car had indeed left.
“Is there a problem?” he asked softly. He knew there was because he had heard it all yesterday, but she didn’t know that. And he was hoping she would open up and tell him about it so he had a way of address it without freaking her out.
Kelly unfortunately shook her head and just continued to walk. “Nothing.”
Callum chewed on his lip trying to figure out how else to address the matter. After a few steps he decided he would think about it later. For now, he would just enjoy her company.
She smelled lovely this morning. He could tell she had washed her hair and it smelled of coconuts and fresh roses. He took a deep breath and held it. Her own natural scent was also lovely and made his wolf wag its tail happily inside him.
The walk unfortunately was too short for his liking and before long they were entering the building and he had to let her go to class. The idea of spending any amount of time away from her was not pleasing to say the least.
“Kelly,” he called and stopped her from entering her class with a hand on her elbow. “Lunch break, you wait here for me?”
It was voiced as a question but Kelly had a strong suspicion it was more like a statement. He was informing her to wait for him and not asking whether she would like to. She frowned a little but then shrugged. “Sure.” It wasn’t like she didn’t enjoy his company.
He let her go and she went to settle down in her class.
Callum looked up when he could scent his Beta walking towards the classroom. Oscar had the same class with Kelly that morning and knowing that his mate would not be completely alone with no one to watch out for her gave him a little peace of mind.
Oscar stopped at his side and looked into the classroom where Kelly was already seated. “Anything interesting this morning?”
“Yaa. The walk from the carpark to the classes is just way too short,” Callum grumbled.
His friend chuckled. “I can only imagine.”
Callum turned to head to his own class. He placed a hand on his beta’s shoulder. “Keep and eye on her for me.”
“You know I will,” Oscar responded without hesitation and walked into the classroom just before the Accounts teacher showed up.

Callum was frowning and looking at the girl standing in front of him like something that had crawled out of the sewage.
However, to her credit Suzy did not look intimidated. In fact, one would think she hadn’t even taken note of the disgust plainly painted on his face.
She pushed her long brown hair behind her ear and continued to smile at him. He had just left the last class before lunch break and was headed towards Kelly’s classes before Suzy stepped into his path.
Callum lifted his bag strap over his shoulder and folded his arms. The frown on his face only deepened. He could practically smell the girl’s intention loud and clear and it did not please him. Not one little bit.
“What can I do for you, Suzy?” he asked in a cold voice which apparently seemed not to have any desired effect on the girl.
Suzy smiled and stepped closer. Too close for his wolf’s comfort and the animal started to growl. It took all he had for the sound to not cross his lips.
“I thought we could grab lunch together,” she said with a smile.
Callum raised a brow. “Since when?”
The response seemed to have caught her off guard and he had to wonder what exactly she had expected to hear.
But she was far from dissuaded from her plan. “You had lunch with the new girl,” she stated almost in an accusing tone.
“And that automatically means I have to have lunch with you?”
The girl shrugged but smiled before she responded, “We have known each other longer, three years to be exact.”
Callum gave her the most bored looked he could muster. It was either that or show her exactly how irritated he was and snap at her.
He did not have time to deal with a girl who had suddenly decided to make moves on her crush. Kelly was waiting for him. And there was no way he was going to keep his mate waiting.
He moved with the kind of grace that was unhuman and purely wolf. In a blink of an eye, he had by passed her and he continued his walk down the hallway to where Kelly was supposed to be waiting for him.
He heard the gasp of shock behind him but that was not his concern. He had only one priority and that was his fated mate.
When he saw her standing in the hallway where he had left her that morning, Callum would have howled with joy. He quickly made his way to her and grabbed her bag to add to his own.
“Oh, no. I can carry that,” she protested. But he effectively killed her protests by wrapping his free arm around her shoulders and guiding her in the direction of the cafeteria.
The move grabbed the attention of several students that had still been standing along the hall way, but Callum didn’t seem to mind so Kelly decided to ignore it as well.
They met Oscar and Mattias waiting just outside the door and together they made their way into the cafeteria.
As always when they entered the room silence fell. Kelly frowned slightly but said nothing. She waited for them to be settled and eating before she asked.
“What exactly did you guys do to have the whole school on its toes around you?”
Callum shrugged and sat back in his chair enjoying a can of juice.
Kelly rolled her eyes and faced Oscar. “Help me out here, you are the one who gives answers in the expanded version.”
Oscar laughed and nearly choked on the chips he had been chewing. “Expanded versions?”
She nodded and pointed at Callum. “If his answer is not a shrug…then it is one word.” She switched fingers and pointed at Mattias. “He on the other hand is either dead quiet, observing the room or making weird statements. You actually explain.”
To her shock before Oscar could speak, Callum responded. “I beat up a bully first day of school three years ago,” he explained calmly.
Kelly faced him with a smile and a little puzzled look. “Interesting…” What was interesting wasn’t just the story but the fact that Callum had actually answered.
What she didn’t know was her comment had irritated him. She had indirectly praised Oscar over him and that could not be. Not even when innocently spoken. The smile Oscar gave him told him the guy knew exactly what had gone through his mind. Even Mattias looked amused and ready to say something inappropriate.
Callum aimed a good kick towards the guy under the table to make sure he kept whatever he was about to say to himself.
Mattias jerked and smirked but he thankfully kept quiet. Callum gave him an approving nod then turned his attention back to Kelly who had apparently been watching him through out the whole play.
She suddenly smiled at him even though her words were reprimanding. “That wasn’t nice.” The words flew right over his head, the only thing that held his attention was her smile. If he hadn’t been sure before, he was now. Kelly was his mate and he would go to any length to see that smile on her face everyday.
