Kelly was getting uncomfortable with the look Suzy was giving her. She began to fidget on her seat till she could not take it anymore.
“What?” she asked, sounding almost irritated.
Suzy did not respond right away, she seemed to contemplate her response before she gave it. Finally, she shrugged and said, “Nothing, it’s just…I have been in this school for three years, and I have never seen that happen.”
“And what exactly happened? Coz I am still a little lost on whatever just took place.”
Finally, Suzy’s expression changed to one of amusement and she chuckled. “To be honest I also don’t know what that was. Still looked strange though.”
Kelly kept quiet; she was not sure strange quite covered it. Her own reaction to the guy had been beyond strange, even now that he had left the cafeteria, she still felt his presence and the look in his eyes. The French saying coup de foudre, came to mind. Indeed, she felt like she had been struck by lightning, a lightning of emotions she had never experienced before.
She focused back to the girl seated next to her and lowered her head to ask as quietly as possible, “And who exactly are they?” It was a good question.
A naughty all-knowing smile spread on Suzy’s face as she regarded her for a moment before responding. “I see you too are caught in the net.”
“What net?”
Suzy chuckled and it did not sound very natural. She seemed to be forcing it now. The easy friendly nature Suzy had approached her with was replaced by a rather tense forced friendliness. “Every girl in Hillcrest who has a pulse, hell…let’s just say every female in this town has a crush on them.” Her eyes lost all humor and she looked at Kelly with cold eyes. “And no one has ever gotten anywhere with them.” She finished with an equally cold voice.
Kelly wasn’t too sure if that was a warning or advice to not waste time on the handsome trio. It had not even crossed her mind to do anything about it, but now she was very curious to know who exactly those boys were.

“Are you certain?” Mattias asked again.
Oscar turned and gave him a frustrated glare. “Haven’t you asked that already? He said, he is sure.”
“Don’t be so quick to bite my head off, Oscar. You know I am just asking the question we are all wondering here. None of us has ever had this experience before, so how do we know what he is feeling is exactly what he thinks it is?”
“I know what I felt…what I feel,” Callum muttered through clenched teeth. “She was right there, it’s her…I am sure of it. I couldn’t think straight…everything stopped and my wolf…the beast is going crazy right now. I just want to get back to her and sink my teeth in her.”
“Oh, how romantic,” Mattias commented with sarcasm.
Oscar had the urge to clap him on the head but he refrained himself, he preferred to leave the violent behavior to Mattias and Callum, he was more a thinker and preferred to use calm words to resolve things.
He watched his friend, Callum, the young alpha for a moment. The guy would not even sit down and reason. He was convinced he had just found his fated mate in the school cafeteria and was eager to return to her. But they had to exercise caution, they were not in the pack lands. They were in Hillcrest, a small human town and the mate Callum claimed he had just found was a human, that in itself presented many problems. They had to think clearly and solve each obstacle before they could act.
Callum paced the small patch of grass between the school buildings. He felt like his skin was on fire. He was twitching with the need to shift into his wolf. A low growl escaped his throat in frustration.
“Easy.” He heard Oscar murmur beside him.
Callum forced himself to stop walking and took a deep breath. Then he faced his friends. They were his best friends and more. They had been close before they left the pack lands but now their bond was stronger than ever.
Even their roles had become clear once they started life away from the pack. Oscar was his beta and Mattias his enforcer. He knew even when they finally returned to the pack lands, those would be their duties.
So even now he knew to rely on them for support and advice. ‘No alpha ruled alone,’ that was a saying his father always told him when he was younger. Over the last three years he had come to understand that saying well and he applied it now.
“How do we proceed?” he asked with a calm he was far from feeling.
Oscar gave him a studying stare before he responded. “She is not a werewolf,” he whispered and looked around to be sure no one had heard. “As I was saying, she is not one of us, so you just can’t walk in there and carry her off to a bed and mate with her...no matter how much your wolf may be trying to convince you it’s a great idea.”
“That would be a sight,” Mattias muttered with amusement.
Both boys looked at him with irritation before Oscar continued, “Anyway, I suggest you date her, get her attention and win her over before you explain things to her.”
The incredulous look on Callum’s face was mirrored on Mattias’ face.
“Become her boyfriend?” Callum asked in a tight voice as though someone had just pushed nails down his throat.
Oscar shrugged one shoulder. “What other choice do you have? It’s either you make her fall in love with you and she accepts you as you are and comes back willingly with us to the pack lands, or we kidnap her and take her by force.”
Mattias shook his head in disbelief. “And I thought I was the one with the worst ideas.”
“Don’t be a smart ass, Mattias. If you have something better in mind…. please do share, we are all ears,” Oscar snapped. When Mattias remained quiet, he snarled and continued, “I didn’t think so. Those are our best options. The fact remains…a wolf cannot live without its mate once she has been found. But it’s up to you, what do you say, Alpha?”

The last class after lunch was uneventful but strange. Kelly was almost shocked when she walked into the lab and found a stool waiting for her in the second last roll and a very eager lab partner who was enthusiastic about them working together.
It was such a turnaround from the way the day had started that she was immediately suspicious. But there was no theory that would support her suspicion.
Half way through the class she felt as though someone was watching her. The person’s eyes were burning a hole in the back of her head.
She had not seen anyone seated in that position when she had entered. But since the class room door was at the back of the class, whoever was in that seat had entered after her.
She resisted the urge to turn and see who was behind her until the hairs at the back of her neck felt like they were crawling.
Finally, she clenched her teeth and slowly turned her head to see who was seated behind her and causing her such discomfort.
