24 - The Apology

Jax Shiloh had never looked at me the way she did after I rejected our other mate. She looked utterly torn. I wanted so badly to chase after her when she ran out of the royal chambers, but I couldn’t leave my mum there alone, knowing the King could return at any moment. I felt obligated to stay there and make sure he didn’t do anything else to hurt my mum. As I expected, Silas showed his face less than ten minutes later. My mum had just come out of their bedroom when he rushed through the front door. She took one look at him, then she charged, ready for a fight. Silas braced himself for impact, knowing he had it coming, then he let my mum pound her fists against his chest while she yelled, “How could you, Silas? How could you do that to me? You promised, Silas! You promised…”
