Later on that day, after everyone left the lake, I took a walk at the beach to clear my thoughts from what had happened today. What I've said about my family to seeing the looks that my Nana and the chief give each other, I don't know what to say. What can a 10 year old little girl say?
About 10 minutes into my walk, Kyle came running over to me. He was smiling, like something just happened.
"Aly, your not gonna believe what just happened." He said breathless.
"What?"
"The chief and your Nana taking a walk around the lake hand in hand."
"Shut up, when was this?" I asked.
"After you left the lake. I think she got your message of what you said."
I smiled and cheered for my Nana. I hugged Kyle for how excited I was for helping a relationship out for my age. Kyle chuckled when he hugged me. Even though he was my best friend, he was there for me when things I didn't know what was happening.
After what he had told me, we walked on the beach talking about what I had said back there. He knew I was low, just didn't know how I've felt til now. When it was close to dark, he walked me home then went home himself.
Seconds turned into minutes then turned into hours of my Nana spending so much time with the chief. I was happy for her, I was so happy for her that I thought I saw light in her. She looked happy, she wasn't so pale or so dead. Even with the chief, he seems happy as well.
After those hours turned into days, Kyle's mother helped me with the promise I had told myself I wanted to do for my Nana. While she had set up a place by the river, I had to distract my Nana and Kyle distracted the chief.
"Alyssa, what are we doing?" My Nana asked me.
"I just want to enjoy a day by the river just us." I told her.
"Okay, I guess we can do that. I did have plans with the chief."
"Oh, you did?" I asked looking at her with hope.
"Yes, but I guess I can cancel it." She said.
"Great." I said as I grabbed her hand and ran to the river side by the falls.
Once we got there, we had the best fun together like we use to do when I was younger. Well much younger than I am now. As we sat on the side of the river, we talked about the good olé days when we used to when we came here with gramps.
We laughed for hours, splashing each other, push us in the water until it was time to go. Nana would tell me that when pops was alive and young, they would have so much fun time here as well.
As we were reminiscing, about the old days, Kyle and the chief were walking up. That's when I noticed it was getting dark.
"There you two are? We've been looking all over for you guys." Kyle had said then winked at me.
"We've been here for hours." I told them.
"Rose did you forget about our date tonight?" The chief asked.
"Oh dear," my nana said as she put her hand on her mouth then looked at me then him. "I forgot to call you and cancel that. Me and Alyssa wasn't having us time."
"Oh, well that's okay. I'll leave y'all to it." The chief said then turned around to head away.
"Wait, Nana got with him. I'll be fine. Kyle can walk me home can't you Kyle."
"Yea, sure I can." Kyle had said.
"Are you sure? We were having so much fun,"
"Go Nana before I change my mind." I told her as I pushed her towards him.
The chief smiled at us as Nana got to him. Once she was close enough, he held out his arm for her to take his hand and they walked hand and hand towards wherever.
I clapped my hands, jumping up and down with joy as of how excited I was for my plan to have worked.
I grabbed Kyle's hand and we ran home as fast as we could. When we finally did, we laughed so hard that we fell to the ground of the living room.
"Oh... My... God..." I said between laughs. "That... Was... So... Close... Of not... Working..."
"You... I swear he... Was gonna... Go home... And cry..." He said between laughs as well.
We stopped for a moment then looked at each other and lost it once again. We laughed so hard that I couldn't breathe and almost peed my pants. I got up from the floor bending over holding my stomach.
"I gotta pee." I said as I ran to the bathroom.
When I got into the bathroom, I hurried up and sat down. I almost didn't make it.
"I can't believe this work Aly!" Kyle yelled out.
"You, remind me to thank your mom big time for this." I told him.
"Yea, we really have to thank her. But it was a big help for us to get those two parts for the day so she could do what she had to do." He said.
"Mhm." I said as I came out of the bathroom. "For real. Ima go change, I'll be back and we can watch a movie until we pass out or until she comes back." I said.
"Yeah, sure. Do you care what I pick?" He asked me.
"Nope, I don't care." I yelled out as I ran to room to change my clothes.
As I got into my room, I started stripping my clothes then grabbed a towel to dry off my body. I was starting to get cold since the air was on and I was wet. Once I was fully dried off, I went to my dresser to grab me my underwear, a pair of shorts, and a shirt. Once I was dressed, I picked my hair then threw it up into a bun.
After I was done, I went back into the living room, smelling popcorn the whole way back. When I got in there, saw he picked the new Disney+ movie I been wanting to see forever, Raya and the last dragon.
"Omg, yes! Its finally out." I said as I hopped on the couch.
"Yea, it came on the other day. Jay, she was watching it with a few of her friends from school."
I nodded, sat back, and watched it while eating popcorn. I was beyond excited for this movie.
So I was thinking a movie for ten years olds could watch together that wasn't that bad. And well Raya and the last dragon popped in my head since I just got done watching it on Disney+. It was a great movie but sad at the end a little but I loved it.
Hope everyone loving this book so far, I know I am as I'm writing it. Just stay tune to what happens next.
