Chapter 4 – Pay Back
Asher Kincaid
POV
I walked into the restaurant with a smile on my face. I spotted him right away; I stalked over to him taking the seat in front of him. The bastard ate away on his stake ignoring me.
“Mr. Kincaid would you like anything to eat?” The waiter asks handing me the menu.
I smile at Josef.
“I’ll have my usual Josef. I would be long at this table; I’ll have it with the lady in the back over there.” I point at Leigh Vana’s best friend. The girl was sitting alone reading the menu, it was quite sad.
Josef nods, taking the menu from me and walks off.
“What do you want Mr. Kincaid?” he has the nerve to sound annoyed.
I narrow my eyes at him, I lean back in my seat. I slowly cross my arms.
“I looked into you; you haven’t been a teacher for very long. Though you’re not fooling anyone I know there’s more to you than what meets the eye.”
He stops eating and looks at me. He places his cutlery down.
“What do you want Asher?” he asks through gritted teeth.
“You know my fiancée? Savannah, you so much as look at her in a way that grates on my nerves, I’ll have your teaching license. Anyone finds out you f****d her; I’ll have your f*****g life. She’s mine…” I warn.
He looks at me before he starts smiling. “You know she told me she was single, from what I’ve seen this week, the two of you don’t even have feelings for one another.” He taunts.
And like an i***t I fall for it. “What the f**k are you talking about?”
His smile widens. “You have a wandering eye Mr. Kincaid. Your cheating has been all over the school. Not just that your so-called fiancée isn’t that upset about it.”
I brace my hands on the table moving closer to him. “You see teach, there’s something you don’t understand. The Kincaid and the Michaelson’s are two of the four founders of the school you’re teaching at. I have the other two families in my pocket. You’ve no power. Not the kind you think you have. You see the girl sitting in the corner over there, her mother owns this restaurant, one remark from me and you band from eating your steak” I wink at him before getting up, I fix my suit and stalk over to Leigh.
“Ah Asher…” Leigh says in surprise when I sit in front of her.
I smile. “Eating alone that’s so sad Leigh, Vana will be sad if she sees this…”
She looks away shy. I’ve never actually had a conversation with Leigh alone before. This is a first for me.
“You’re cute you know.” I tease.
She blushes. I just love how innocent she is. I love teasing her, I would never get this kind of reaction out of Vana. f**k she walks in front of me butt naked and feels no shame, the girl in front of me blushes at the word cute.
“Asher, I don’t know what you’re up to, but Savy warned me that you might come approach me.” she says softly.
“Relax it’s not what you think. You know how Vana, and I have been in a bit of a tiff recently?” I asked her.
She nods slowly looking at me in confusion.
“Well, I need your help. You saw how Vana was flirting with Cole to get back at me for what happened with Melissa, now I want you to help me get back at Vana…” I propose.
She looks at me before shaking her head. “I’m not going to get involved. Revenge isn’t the way God would want us to live…” she straight up says no.
Wow. I smile. “Relax it’s not what you think. I want Vana to see how much she loves me. She’s been ignoring me recently. I’m doing it to get her attention.” I try to get to her lady parts.
Honestly, I’m pulling at straws. I’m exhausted. It’s Saturday, and I’ve been working all day on the prep for our project, Vana’s still at the office. She didn’t want to leave, and I wanted to confront Charles Cooper, the mother fucker who had the nerve to eye f**k Vana yesterday, though I did the same, the jean she had on yesterday was by far my favorite, though I didn’t like that she’d on show for him to see as well.
He needed to be warned not to mess with me.
What I failed to mention was, I was on a time limit I knew Vana was on her way. I wanted her to catch us eating together. and a little flirting never hurt anyone.
Something flashes in Leigh’s eyes. “She’s on her way isn’t she. You would have asked anyone else at school, why me?” she asks.
I smile. “You know you’re a lot smarter than I thought you were.” I told her.
She rolls her eyes.
“You know the Lord will punish you for rolling your eyes at me…” I tease her.
She just rolls her eyes at me again. “You’re not funny.”
Our food comes. “What you having?” I asked. I didn’t recognize her dish.
“It’s new, it’s chicken livers with a lemon and herb sauce.” She says softly.
I try not to make a face. But I couldn’t help myself. I hated chicken livers. I barely ate chicken. I only ate grilled chicken breasts. I didn’t eat any other part of the chicken.
I look down at my steak and salad. After she told me what she was eating I wasn’t hungry anymore. It didn’t look appetizing anymore.
I take a sip of the champaign given to us by the waiter.
“So, what’s your plan for next year?” I asked Leigh.
“I’m planning to study teaching with a minor in psychology.” She says softly.
“You’re planning on being a teacher?” I asked in surprise.
She nods. “I plan to teach at the church I attend.” She says.
I nod. “That’s smart.” I honestly didn’t think she would say teacher. Leigh was anything but strict, the kids are going to tear her apart. but I wasn’t going to stand in front of her dreams, the way my father was standing in front of mine.
“You’ll be studying business with Savy right?” she asks.
I nod. “I’ll be studying business economics and a minor in finance. Vana’s doing double major Business Economics and HR I think.” I wasn’t sure what Vana’s plan was, but our fathers gave us guidance when choosing our majors and what would help us in the future. Vana’s crazy smart and wanted a double major, I however plan to play hockey in college don’t want to overwork myself.
“Savy told me you’re planning to play next year as well, if you get into the college, you want…” she asks.
I nod. “Yes, Lyle and I plan to play college hockey. He plans on going pro whereas I’ll be taking over the family business.” I shrug my shoulders like I’m not mad about not being able to go pro.
We continue to talk; I must say it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. We ended up laughing and having a good time.
“What the hell is going on here?” Vana’s voice filled with so much venom takes both Leigh and I by surprise.
I turn to look at my fiancée. She’s scowling at us. Why does it feel like I’ve been caught cheating by the wife?
Leigh looks at Vana guiltily. “Savy…” Leigh sighs. “It’s not what you think. Asher and I were just talking about college…” she stutters.
I however look at Vana proudly you see. Savannah and I dress professionally, in suits when we visit the office. Now the pants my fiancée is sporting is tight around her ass. It’s so satisfying to see her in it, and I promise I’ll be taking it off tonight as well.
Savannah joins us at the table. She crosses her arms.
“Vana relax. We were just having dinner together. order something we’re almost done with ours.” I told her.
She doesn’t say anything. Josef walks over and hands her the menu.
Josef is at our school, he is a scholarship student, he’s crazy smart and helped me when I was struggling, he’s really cool as well. I asked Leigh to help him get this job when I heard he was looking for work. All our friends always leave him a big tip when he serves us.
“Jo I’ll have whatever you think is good on the menu…” Vana smiles at him touching his hands.
I watch him become uncomfortable before running away.
“That was uncalled for. Josef doesn’t need to be added into our little game.” I warn her.
Josef was one of my people. That’s why no one messes with him at school.
“Relax I wasn’t flirting… I was just being nice. So, tell me why you’re here Ash, I remember you telling me you had business to attend to.” She asks narrowing her eyes at me. Her sliced over to Leigh. “Is she the business you had to take care of?” she asks.
“Oh no, I would never do that to you Savannah, you know that. When Asher approached me, I told him the exact same thing. I’m not getting involved in whatever this is. I’m leaving. Thank you for tonight, Asher. I’ll see you at school on Monday.” She smiles at me before stalking off.
I shake my head. I expected this much. I know Savannah better than she even knows herself. Her temper got the better of her because she’s stressed about our project.
We got a call today from our contractors they’re pulling out of the project, no prior notice they just cancelled their contract.
Our plans have come to a halt until we can find someone else to take their place. I know my choice to do this tonight was cruel, but she’ll be happy by the end of the night I can say that for sure. I know it.
“Want to get out of here?” I ask her with a wide smile on my face.
She rolls her eyes but still nods her head. Good girl…
“I’m going to get going, I have somewhere to be, I’ll meet you at the apartment.” I wink at her before getting up and walk to the back of the restaurant, I wait for Josef. When I saw him slip him a two hundred before making my way to my parents’ place. I wanted to talk to my father about the contract.
We needed to find someone to replace the assholes who decided they no longer wanted to work with us. I know who bought them off. They think buying our contractors would stop us from moving on this with project so they could have it. They’re wrong. Nothing is going to stand in Savannah’s way. This project means the world to her and a special place in her heart. It’s the only thing I would never try to hurt her with.
The two of us go down each other’s throats twenty-four seven, but when it comes to her aunt and my hockey we don’t fight dirty there. those are off limits.
Over the years Savannah’s father has been more of a father to me than my own father. My father always reminded me he wanted a carbon copy of himself, and I couldn’t be anything but that.
The disappointment he feels because I wanted nothing to do with his interests got me put on a short leash.
I stop when I see Charles Cooper talking to Leigh. I frown. Why are they speaking on the side of the road.
I walked over to them and wrapped my arm around Leigh’s shoulder. This bastard made me sick, he’s thirty-six years old, looking at teenage girls. Savannah told me this bastard told her he was in his twenties.
What type of sick f**k would prey on innocent girls. Savannah I can understand but not Leigh. She’s like a little girl who knows nothing about the world.
“So, my warning wasn’t enough?” I glared at him.
My instincts told me to pull Leigh behind me and protect her, she was like a little girl I needed to protect. I no romantic feelings for Leigh. She was one of Vana’s closest friend’s I know Vana would be heart broken if this bastard so much as touches her.
Though it was just a warning, having this pervert around girls is not that a good idea.
“Mr. Kincaid. You honestly think I was hitting on my student?” He glares at me.
Leigh looks between us confused.
“I don’t care what you have to say. I don’t trust you. I’m going to have your license revoked. You so much as look at Leigh the wrong way. I dare you to f**k with me.” I warn him I step in front of Leigh protectively.
“Asher, it’s Dr Cooper was helping me.” Leigh touches my arm.
But I ignore her. “Scram!” I warned him.
He glares at me; he shakes his head and walks off muttering curse words to himself.
“Asher.” Leigh says my name as if she’s annoyed.
“What?” I look at her confused.
“I asked him for help with an assignment I didn’t understand. He was explaining it to me.” She sighs but doesn’t look at me.
“Leigh you should stay away from that asshole. I’m doing this for your own good.” I told her.
She looks confused but nods away. I walk her to her car and watch her drive off before I get into my own.
I wasn’t looking forward to speaking to my father but what the hell, it had to be done, if I waited until tomorrow, he would be down my throat.
I knew I would need Savannah and a joint tonight when I got back to my apartment.
A few days ago, Savannah’s dad thought it would be a great idea if we got an apartment close to school since Savannah complains about driving all the time.
She hasn’t moved in yet, I however moved in the very next day, the fact that I never have to go home to my father again is a f*****g blessing. I might actually go down on my knees and thank the father for blessing me. Savannah has way too many things to move in right away.
They’ve been busy for four days just packing up her clothes and that’s just half of her closet. She’s a spoilt princess every little girl wants to be when they grow up.
We’ve been thinking about staying in the apartment until we finish college. We could buy a house when we’re planning on having kids. The best part about Savannah and my agreement is that we are attracted to one another. Having kids won’t be a problem. What is a problem is keeping our opinions to ourselves and not giving snide remarks every two seconds.
I sigh when I pull up at the security gate of my childhood home. My living nightmare.
