Chapter 8 – One problem after another
Savannah Michaelson
POV
“I’m telling you she feels terrible…” Navy says.
Now I feel bad. I didn’t mean for Leigh to feel bad; I didn’t blame her for what happened on Saturday. I wasn’t blaming her either.
Navy and I were standing in front of our lockers when Navy brought up how Leigh was feeling about our talk yesterday.
“Honestly, I only asked her because of what you said about Asher’s weird behavior, I knew there was nothing going on between them.” I tell her.
She shrugs her shoulders. “Maybe the two of you should just have a sit down and talk things through. I hate the thought of being stuck between the two of you…” she says before tensing up, Carlyle should be nearby.
When they break up, they’re tense around one another, and we’re always stuck in the middle. We’ve been through this so many times it’s almost normal. We’ve learnt not to make a big fuss over their breakups anymore. They’ve never been permanent they don’t even last a week.
An arm wraps around my shoulders pulling me against his chest. I take in Asher’s cologne and instantly I feel my body calm down. I’ve been tense since lunch yesterday. The wedding date being set puts me on edge. The thought of spending my life with someone I could never love and bringing children into our lives has me feeling sick to my stomach.
“What you ladies talking about?” Asher asks. I know he doesn’t really care but he wants to act polite.
I look to my side to Carlyle speaking to Leigh. I look at Navy she’s tense watching the two of them. Oh, this is bad. I swear if Carlyle so much as looks at another woman Navy goes crazy. There’s no stopping her. I’ve seen her slap her own sister for flirting with Carlyle.
“We were just talking about shopping yesterday. I don’t maybe you should do some shopping as well…” I tease him and wanting to change the subject. I wanted to distract Navy from Leigh and Carlyle speaking.
Asher pulls his arm away from me and glares at me.
When Asher woke up this morning, he discovered that I’d cut up all his clothes. He had to ask his assistant to bring him something to wear. It was fun to watch.
“You think you funny huh?” he asks pulling me into his arms kissing my neck, causing me to break out in a fit of laughter.
It’s ticklish as hell, and he knows I hate it when his beard touches my sensitive skin.
“How about we go into one of the rooms for some alone time?” Asher asks.
I wiggle out of his arms. I shake my head. “We’re going to your parents house later for the wedding planning, I can’t look freshly f****d now, can I?” I remind him.
Asher’s face turns into scowl. “Do I have to be there?” he asks.
I nod. “If I have to be there you do to.” I tell him before turning to the girls. “I was wondering if the two of you would be my bridesmaids.” I ask them.
Both girls nod in excitement.
“So have you set a date yet?” Navy asks.
I nod “Yes it’s going to be on my birthday next year.” I inform them.
Asher looks at Carlyle and nods. Carlyle nods as well.
Guys are so boring.
My maid of honor is going to be my cousin Sasha. My father insisted I have his brother’s daughter as my maid of honor.
My uncle Cohan and his wife Fiona have three children two sons Saylor and Sawyer twins aged twenty-four and one daughter Sasha age eighteen. Sasha and I are the same age, she goes to public school though. My uncle didn’t inherent anything form my grandfather; I have no idea why though and I never bothered to ask why.
My uncle refused any help my father offered and got a job from the company the right way and refused any help from my father to get his children into good schools. Sasha and I aren’t close, and we barely see each other.
The girls go on to gush about my wedding plans all the way to our next class.
After class I had a student council meeting, because Asher drove to school with me, he waited for me in my office.
I don’t know what he was up to while we were busy but when we were done, he was asleep.
Asher was handsome, I never had a problem with his looks, the man is a looker. My problem is with his personality. He just rubs off the wrong way.
All of yesterday during our lunch, I couldn’t stop thinking about whether he had feelings for Leigh, would he dump the contract and our agreement for her? Leigh is an amazing girl; I know because she is one of my best friends. But I didn’t like the idea of them together it just rubbed me the wrong way. It would mess everything up and Leigh deserved a lot more than being Asher’s side check until the wedding.
Though I doubt he’d try anything with her. I still don’t trust him very much. Past experiences have taught me to keep an eye on this man.
My phone rings distracting me from him.
I answer. “Hello?” I leave the office, so I don’t wake him.
“Is this Miss Michaelson?” a man’s voice startles me.
“Speaking…”
“Hi Miss Micaelson, the crew and I arrived on sight an hour ago and there was no one here to meet us. The architect gave us the wrong plans, it’s a mess down here. We’ve tried calling your partner, but he hasn’t been answering our calls.”
Shit!
“Give me twenty minutes my partner and I will be down there as soon as we can. I promise we’ll sort this out.” I assure him.
I make my way into the office and pack my bag. I couldn’t believe they would mess this up.
“Thank you…” he says before hanging up.
I could hear he was upset. We can’t screw up this deal.
Asher was already up when I walked in.
“What’s wrong?” he asks.
“There’s a problem on site. I want it fixed before our fathers find out about this.” I tell him.
He nods grabbing my bag. And walking out the door ahead of me. I grab my car keys off the table and walk out after him.
