THE ALPHA’S GODDESS
Chapter 1
~CALLIE'S P.O.V~
As we were returning from a meadow, my mother and I would go every Saturday to pick fresh flowers. One day, we happened to stumble across a foul odor while out in the meadow. My mom immediately grabbed my hand. The smell was awful, smelt of something that was in the process of decay. I have never smelt anything like this smell before, but somehow, I knew exactly what it was. We were taught about it in school. Rogues are here.
Upon arrival back to our pack's territory we could hear screaming in the distance. Instantly, we both take off, running toward the screaming. If there are screams, then something bad is happening. Screaming like that indicates a sign of danger in the pack. As we got closer to our pack lands, we could hear someone yelling "ROGUE ATTACK, EAST BORDER, EVERYONE INITIATE WHAT WE HAVE PRACTICED!" Alpha James screams through the mind link. As we finally got to the land that our pack members' houses rest on, I could see bodies everywhere. Some are Rogues and some of our pack members. I was stuck in a haze but was quickly pulled out of it by the screaming of my mother.
"CALLIE, RUN!" I heard.
I looked over to see a rogue coming at me. My heart rate accelerates as I begin to run. My mother tackles the Rogue while I continue to dart towards the Pack house.
The pack house is where all the women who are not warriors go, along with all children years 14 and younger, and also to elderly wolves that can no longer fight. I looked around once more at the bodies everywhere. I slowed down as I came across a body on the ground. I saw this beautiful red-haired teenager lying on the ground. She looked to be about my age, maybe a little older. Her lifeless body lay there with her eyes still open. Tears began to stream down my cheeks as I cried. How could someone be so cruel? She was a child! An innocent! I didn't know her, but I knew she didn't deserve that. She, among many other bodies, lay in the field. Either lifeless or on the verge of death. I look over to see Alpha's son Gunner enraged, his wolf right on the surface as he viciously kills any rogue wolf coming his way. He was a beast in action, defending his people.
"CALLIE, KEEP RUNNING, DON'T STOP!" My mother screams at me, pulling me out of my running thoughts about what was before me. I did as I was told, I ran. My mother was right behind me. She would occasionally have to fend off a rogue to get us through. My mom was beyond brave and unbelievably strong.
Being the Gamma's wife, you're taught combat to protect yourself, especially in these circumstances right here. But she and I both knew there was only so much she could do. As we neared the pack house, I got a whiff of the most disgusting smell my nose has ever encountered. In school we were taught that rogue wolves carry-a death stench. One that smells of rotten garbage and decay. But this smell was far worse, if that were even possible. It was as if you could literally smell the death this person's hands had caused.
I stopped in my tracks, looking around. I couldn't see anyone in my line of sight, but my senses were strong enough that I knew someone was there. I couldn't jeopardize the safety of those inside. If I ran into the pack house now, I'd only lead this person that was lurking in the shadows to all of the defenseless pack members.
At 12-14 years old, we are not taught combat or self-defense. We only start that training at the age of 15. My father, however, didn't agree and decided I needed to at least know how to defend myself. I, unfortunately, was not trained to fight but only to defend myself. I was almost at the age where I could train alongside the warriors, but I was not of age yet, therefore I was useless today. As much as I wanted to save and help my pack members, I couldn't overpower those rogues.
I hear a branch being crunched from the woods on my left side. When I looked over and saw a figure, it appeared to be a silhouette of a man who appeared to be around 6'0. He stepped closer, giving me a clear view of his face. He has dark hair, dark skin, and black eyes? Was his wolf in control of his human body? I heard it is possible due to the human side losing all humanity after being Rogue for long without any leadership, but I never expected that I would witness this phenomenon with my own eyes.
"There you are." I heard his rough voice speak. He inches even closer. With every step, I could feel my heart rate pick up a pace.
"I've been looking all over for you dearie." Dearie? I am not his dearie!
"Who are you?" I spat out as coldly as I could manage.
"Ha, who am I? Well, I am the King!" he exclaims.
"You're no king!" I screamed back at him, instantly regretting my decision as I saw his claws extend from his hands as a growl erupted from his mouth.
"Oh, but I am. I am the King of all Rogues. I have been looking for you for 10 years. Your parents did a hell of a job at hiding you, masking your scent and shielding those amazing abilities. But not good enough, because here you are."
He stepped closer, close enough that he grabbed my arm. "You're mine, you will bear my pups and be my queen."
"NEVER!" I heard from beside us. As my father tackles the evil man, freeing my arm from his grasp.
"DADDY!" I yelled aloud as my arm got yanked to the side. I quickly did a maneuver to free myself from the strong grip. As I lift my arm up to do my twist release, I see the petrified face of my mother, instantly making me feel less frantic.
"COME CALLIE, WE NEED TO GET YOU SAFE, YOU HAVE TO BE SAFE!"
We finally made it to the doors of the pack house. Just as my mother opens the door, a screeching howl echoes all around me. I look over to see my mother clenching her chest as she drops to her knees. NO NO NO!! I then quickly turned around only to see what my heart feared; my father's lifeless body lying motionless on the ground.
"DADDY!" I screamed again, this time with fear and tears in my eyes. I tried to run to his side, but before I could, my mother pushed me inside, slamming the door as she screamed "GET TO THE SAFE HOUSE, NOW!"
Is she crazy? That man just took down my dad without any struggle. My father was one of the top three most powerful men in this pack. Was she not coming with me? She couldn't take him on! He had already murdered her mate, there's no way! She can't leave me alone! I quickly ran to the window to look out, praying to the goddess I didn't lose her either.
The man that calls himself a king, has my mother by the throat as her body dangles in the air. He has this evil smirk across his face like he enjoys watching others die at his hands. He then threw my mom's body down, making me whimper as she hit the ground with force. His body now hovering over her, as he spoke, I read his lips.
"She is mine, she will always be mine, I will find her no matter where she goes. You can't hide her forever. I will take her, she will bear my pups, making me the most powerful being to walk the earth. She is MINE!" He roared with such power, but my mom did not cower away. I admired her strength, if only I too were that honorable and courageous. Her eyes scanned the house, locking eyes with me for just a moment. 'Don't watch my baby. Turn around. I love you so much, you will always be my little princess.' I heard my mom's voice faintly. I shouldn't be able to hear her. I have no wolf, so I shouldn't be able to mind-link. Her eyes swelled with tears as she broke eye contact once again, looking into the face of the monster before her. "NO MOMMA!" I screamed, praying she had some type of leverage, knowing she didn't.
"OVER MY DEAD BODY!" She screamed, jumping from the ground, reaching for his neck, only to be stopped in her tracks as he ripped her throat out.
"As you wish," he says, smiling. I screamed aloud as I darted to the door. I know I can't win but I'll die trying! However, as soon as I reached the door, someone's arms wrapped around me, pulling me off the ground.
"NO CALLIE! You can't, Silvia didn't want this. She wants you safe. No matter what!"
"Let me go, he murdered my parents! Let me GO!" I screamed. But it was useless. Even the Beta's wife could overpower me. There's no way I could have won fighting that man.
She quickly carried me to the safe room. Once she released me, she quickly closed the door behind her. Then, using her magic, she sealed it shut, creating a barrier. I quickly scurried off to the corner where I sat alone for a while crying my eyes out. I felt the presence I can always sense without looking. Jade.
"Are you alright?"
I looked up from the ground, tears freely flowing down my face, shaking my head no. Jade quickly engulfs me in her arms as I cry longer. I am not sure how long I cried for or for how long we had been down here. Felt like hours. We had to stay put until the Alpha returned. It felt as if the walls were closing in on me. Eventually, the tears came to a stop. I felt completely numb, inside and out. This can't be real. It has to be a dream. There is no way I am alone, an orphan.
My head was reeling with the prospect of being all alone in this world. I was an only child; we had no other relatives. Where was I going to go? I had nobody. Tears once again appeared in my eyes. I thought I was all cried out. Apparently not.
Just then, we heard the sound of a special knock. The one that was placed for purposes like this. So, we knew that the one wanting in was our own. Jasmine, the Beta's wife, jumps up from the ground, quickly removing the magical spell that was concealing our whereabouts. The Alpha walks in not a moment later, alongside him, the Beta of our pack and their heirs.
The alpha then explains to us that the rogues had retreated. He said that a lot managed to get away, but they wouldn't dare return because their leader had been eliminated. He starts talking and explaining that he still doesn't know what or who they were after, so we have to be on high alert and reinforce more warriors on the borders.
I never did tell them what that man told me. I'm not even sure why. Maybe out of regret or guilt?
Luckily, I didn't have to ask where I would go, where I would sleep, or where my next meal would come from because, after that fatal day, I was taken in by the 2nd in command, Beta Makon Avery and his family. His daughter Jade Avery was my best friend, so when my parents died, the Avery's did not hesitate to take me in as one of their own.
After the attack, Alpha James and our boarding packs created a 'safe place', as they call it. All the packs came together and decided that in order to protect our packs further, we must not only be allies but also open borders to reinforce protection among all wolves in Maine. That is when they agreed to share our middle land so that 4 packs are on guard at all times. If these rogues were after something. They will find out.
