8: Courtship

"My lady Edith, would you know if I could talk to your Papa? I would like to discuss something with him." Pat asked Edith while they were seating in the kalesa.  Edith wondered why he suddenly asked her. They were having a good time talking while eating the snacks. She planned on introducing him to her Hermana. She wondered if their Papa was at home as he was busy with state matters earlier. "I am not sure Pat. May I call you "Pat" instead of señor?" Edith asked him. She was becoming more casual as they talk. "Yes, my lady. You can call me whatever you want. I am glad you would call me by my name." Pat smiled at her. He allowed her call him by his name which was unusual for him to hear beyond his family. All the engkanto always addressed him as Prince Pat or Prince.  "Thanks, Pat. May I ask about your family? You seem to be well educated from the manner you speak." She implored him. She was curious how this person can speak fluently in such an old manner of language.  "We were taught from an early age to be respectful of everyone, so I guess it came naturally for me," Pat said. He did not want to lie but he did not want to tell her yet everything. # "Señor, good afternoon, my name is Patricio, and I would like to ask your permission to court your daughter Edith if you would allow it?" Pat said to Edith's Papa. He was in his office in the pack house. Both of them were facing each other. Pat was sat in a leather chair which he did not like. It squeaked when he moves. "Mijo, may I know first before I answer that? I am very protective when it comes to my daughters as they are precious to me." Alpha Vicente said. Edith had already informed him that Pat was her mate, but Alpha Vicente wanted to be sure Pat would not hurt her daughter. "Señor, will all due respect it will be my honor to protect Edith with my life. I will not anything or anyone harm her." Pat directly expressed his emotions. He knew that having this talk will be nerve-wracking and beneficial to him in the long run. His hands were sweating while his feet were shaking. He tried to be calm but the silence between them was not helping. It seemed that Alpha Vicente was thinking. "Good, I like what you are saying. Next question, where do your family live? And who are your parents?" Alpha Vicente was grilling him and getting every information he can get from him. He didn't fully trust him yet. Also, he has never seen this boy in the town before, so he is suspicious. "My parents are living near this town. We are not of this town. My Papa is the ruler of our kingdom while Mama is the queen. If you will, I would be glad to invite you and your family to my home. That way you may talk with my parents." He knew he needs to please her Papa to court Edith. This had been the tradition of humans as he read in the books. "Very well, I look forward to meeting them. But I would like to invite them to my house if you would permit. May I know, what is the name of your kingdom? I have not known any natives to have that structure exist today." Alpha Vicente requested. "Señor, it would be my pleasure to bring my parents here. Thank you for allowing me inside your home." Pat let out a long breath. He did not know he was holding it until he said the last word. His hands were still sweating but his feet have stopped shaking. He thought things were going well in his favor. "I see, then let them come here this weekend. We will have a party to welcome them to our home. We shall talk by then about your courtship with my daughter. For now, I won't allow her to be with you outside of this house. If you will visit her you will be accompanied by an elder. Do you agree?" He stood his ground. He did not want to give him his permission easily. He must earn it, he thought. "Thank you señor. Yes, I will let them know. See you on Sunday. I will be off, for now, to inform them about this." Pat was happy. He could now freely see Edith when he wanted. Even if it was just inside her house. He took his hat from the table and nodded to go out. How should I let them know about this without missing the time? I have a couple of hours before Sunday arrives. Unlike here where they have three days to prepare. I only have three hours. I better hurry up back home.
