10: Longing

882 Words
It had been two days since Edith last saw Pat. She became agitated by his absence. She wasn't sure if he will come back. It seemed her Papa gave him a very hard task. These days courtship was quite hard. Unlike before you just presented your riches, and any parent would give you your approval. This time they needed to prove themselves not their wealth or their background. "Hermana, are you okay? You seem distressed." Trish asked her. She was staring at the crops outside, but her mind was somewhere else. "Hi Trish, I didn't notice you were here. I am just worried. Pat hasn't visited yet. And tomorrow is the party. What if he won't come? Or what if he decides I am not worth the trouble?" Edith answered her sister's question. "Hermana don't think like that. You know what, instead of sulking here alone. Why don't you come with me to town? We can drag Joselito with us. He is such an adorable kid." Trish suggested. "You really like our nephew huh. He seems to be a lady’s man." Edith thought out loud. "Well, he seems to be so irresistible so yeah, I like bringing him along with me. I get tons of attention as well." She explained. She was an attention seeker these days. Well if you were the youngest sibling and your sister has a son all attention goes to him rather than her. "Alright. Ask for permission first. I don't want to be scolded by Hermana. I will just fix myself first. I might bump into Pat later. I want to look presentable." Edith said it. She was humming a melody as she prepared her dress to wear. "Yes, thanks Hermana. I already asked permission from our Hermana. And she agrees as long as you accompany us. Haha, gotcha!" She winked at her. Trish then slumps back in her bed laughing. "You sly girl. You knew I was not in the mood to go out, but you did your tricks on me. I will definitely crush you on our sparring match." Edith ranted. "Haha. Well, I am bored here already. My classes are done already, and no one wants to play pranks anymore. I just want to enjoy my time before I became like you and Hermana. So, fixated on their mate." Trish let out a sigh. She never understood why their Hermana stopped doing pranks. But Edith did. She needed to be respected so she has to be prim and proper. # "Tía, I want to buy these toys. Please." Joselito told Trish. He pouted and made a cute irresistible face. Trish did not like the sound he was doing. She was too you to be a Tia (Aunt). "I will buy them as long as you won't call me Tía from now on. Deal?" Trish replied. "What shall I call you then?" Joselito scratched his head. He was unsure what he will call her. She was older than him and his Mama Claudia taught him to call her Tía. "Call me Tita Trish. That is a little better." Trish thought so herself. "Okay, Tita. So, will you buy me now?" The little boy asked again. "Trish, what does he want? And why is he scratching his head? Does he have lice or something?" Edith wondered. Joselito just scratched his head even more. He isn't sure what his Tia was talking about. "Ummm, Tia could you buy me these toys?" He pleaded to Edith. He looked so adorable when he wanted something. "Sure baby. What do you like?" Edith replied enthusiastically. "Let me buy him those toys. I made a deal with him." Trish suddenly cut her off. She was smiling a lot lately. "Trish what did you do?" Edith was worried. For the first time in a few days, she was worried for her sister rather than her mate. He had taken most of the space in her mind lately. She did not notice Trish's behavior. "It's nothing really. I just told him I want him to call me Tit instead of Tia. In exchange, I will buy him toys." Trish shrugged me off and proceeded to buy the toys. She watched her little sister take more control. She was becoming more like their Hermana every day. Independent and strong-willed. "So Joselito, is it true you will call her Tita Trish?" Edith asked her nephew. "Si Tia." He responded enthusiastically. He was happy to have new toys more than the change of honorifics. Edith let go of the issue and grabbed Joselito towards the cashier. "Miss, can you give me the newest toy you have for boys?" She asked the person assisting Trish. "Si señora, just give me a minute to finish this transaction first." She replied and smiled towards them. "Trish, can you manage to look after him? I'd like to check the plaza before we go home." Edith asked her sister's opinion. "Yes, I can manage. But don't take too long, or Joselito will be moody when we interrupt his nap time." Trish nodded afterward. 'Joselito is such a mix of everyone's personality, she won't be surprised if the kids in their pack have a crush on him ' "Edith?" A guy with an unfamiliar sound called Edith across the street.
