Chapter Three: Early Morning Run

Kaleb's POV

The rest of the day went by in a blur, and I was happy about that. As I made my way to my car, I spoke to two of my betas through the pack link to get a cleaning crew to clean up the library as well as the apartment above it. It has been around for over 10 years and the apartment was like a safe house. It was soundproof and protect anyone from the supernatural world from getting in without being invited in aside from my family. There was a spell cast on in by some witches my dad knew back in the day. My father had it built when I had to go into hiding at the age of 16.

My driver opened the backseat door and I got in sitting back as he drove out of the parking lot with the other car behind us. When we got home, I went straight into the kitchen to get something to eat. The maids were sitting down and quickly stood up when they saw me. Ignoring them, I grabbed a bag of grapes from the fridge and then washed them leaving the kitchen up to my bedroom.

I quickly took my clothes off and then hopped in the shower eating my grapes while I went on with the shower. By the time dinner was ready, I was already dressed to leave the Manor. I got in my Range Rover and drove into town to the library where I saw the doors already unlocked. My wolf ears picked up voices inside as I got out of my car. Everyone was already cleaning up as I made my way upstairs to the apartment.

"Alpha, everything will be in order by tomorrow afternoon. We ordered the pieces of furniture already and a new alarm system will be installed as well" Martinez said to me.

He's my third beta and I was the one that turned him 2 years ago. He was running away from his abusive parents and I found him laying in the woods with blood and cuts all over his body. His heart was barely beating and I knew I had to help him. I brought him back to the pack house and got him patched up. As soon as he was back on his feet, he was indecisive about leaving and I gave him options. Go back to his normal life or he could become like me. I guess since he's now a werewolf, the option he chose was obvious.

"That's good. Where's Noah and Eli?" I asked referring to two of my other betas.

"They went to check the area out and said they needed the run," He said. I nodded walking around the apartment ensuring everything was in order when my papa (Birth Giver and Carrier/Luna/ Isaiah Bentley) spoke to me in pack link.

"Kaleb, we are having dinner Sunday night. Your dad and I need you there" My papa said to me

I'm going to be there the next time. I promise and I also have great news" I said to him through the pack link. A smile crept onto my face at the thought of finding the love of my life.

"Oh, you gotta tell me. Tell me, tell me, tell me please" He squealed happily making me laugh.

"I think the anticipation is better," I said to him. He whined making me smile.

"Son, what's the news?" My dad asked as he tapped into our conversation. (Matteo Bentley/ The Alpha of all Alphas/ Leader of the Elder Blood Moon Pack Members/ Birth father)

"Dad, I'm not gonna tell you either. Please don't try to persuade me" I said to him then we disconnected

By midnight, every room was spotless. The old pieces of furniture were removed to put in the modern, new ones. The walls were painted light gray except for the bedrooms. The child-like room was painted light pink and the other was white. I wasn't sure what color to use so I used basic colors to make it look at least nice. When I got home, I ate and then went to bed with my mate on my mind.

Oh Goddess she was breathtaking. I can't even find the right words to describe her but I wanted to know who is the father of the child and what did he do to hurt her. How could he think that was okay? I so badly want to rip him apart.

The Next Morning✂✂✂✂

I woke up to my alarm clock going off and I rolled onto my stomach turning it off. Usually, I wake up in the morning and go for a morning run so that's what I'm about to do. Getting up, I pulled the covers from my body and then went to the bathroom to brush my teeth. I grabbed a pair of sweatpants along with my trainers put them on and left the house with a shirt despite it being 5 in the morning. As I walked down to the woods of my property, I saw Avery's wolf running toward me causing me to chuckle as to strip naked.

As soon as I transformed into my big black furry wolf, I felt so at ease. My vision was sharper, my earring louder and everything felt so much better. I took off running breaking twigs beneath my paws as Avery chased behind me. This is our usual thing in the mornings and sometimes my parents would come along. After running for nearly an hour, we got to the waterfalls and turned back to human form then dived into the cold water. Avery came up shortly after I did and then sighed.

"What's wrong this time?" I asked him

"Emery isn't really giving me the time of day," He said to me. He was referring to his mate who's a guy.

"You have to give him some time and you know it's harder for humans to accept their mates," I said to him

All of Avery's life, he has only ever been attracted to women but his mate turned out to be a human guy at the age of 18 with a really bubbly personality yet he was skeptical about Avery. Why would a rich millionaire want to be with him? It has been over 6 months since he's found his mate and though they have a great relationship, they haven't yet started a romantic relationship. I know if it was me, I would have persuaded him but he has to wait until Emery accepts him first.

"I don't want him to reject me, Kale. I have Alex to look after and I'd rather lose the love of my life than my only child" He said to me

"You're thinking too much into it. Emery is a teenager and if you hadn't explained his home situation to me, I would have thought otherwise. Yes, he's secretly gay in a religious family who happens to be homophobic, he's also from a family who isn't blessed with money so there's that. He wouldn't have expected a wealthy bachelor to suddenly find him interested romantically. But what I do advise is that use your friendship with him to see if he's open-minded to the supernatural world. There are a lot of supernatural movies nowadays so I'm sure he's willing to listen" I said to him

"It's total bullshit. It's probably gonna be easier for you now because she seems to already like you" He said making me smile.

"Who knows? We don't even know if she's single" I said to him but that thought struck a nerve for me.

"She isn't. She said it's just been here and her daughter ever since so I'm sure she's single. You most definitely will have better luck and will begin the mating process" He said to me. An idea came to mind and I decided to just kill two birds with one stone.

"Since it's Saturday, how about you invite him out and I'll try to get out Elina to see if we can have a double date or outing. We could do something fun and I'll get to spend time with Elina while you try to make a move on Emery. I'll also put in good words for you" I said to him causing both to chuckle.

"Reminds me of back in high school when I wanted to go out with Thalia. Sometimes I miss her and I know she would have been a great mom to Alex" He said

"I guess but you know I never liked her. Honestly, I think it was just her faith to die because she would have caused a problem now especially since you finally found your mate and she was a jealous b***h. No offense to her corpse but she was. Maybe it's just how it's supposed to be" I said to him. He looked at me then chuckled.

"Sometimes your mouth scares me but I'm glad you're so honest. Anyway, we should go now since the sun is coming up" He said to me

We swam back to the shore then I transformed back into my wolf as Avery (Ace) did the same. Ace was a brown furry wolf with brown eyes matching Avery's and he was almost the same size as me. Back in high school, we used to wish we were mates because of our close relationships with each other.

We are always comfortable with each other so it would have been easier and I honestly think we would make the perfect team but easy is never the way. After searching for years, I finally found my mate, and Avery found his. Well, she found me and I'm so happy. Though it has been only a day, I have faith in us.

When we got back to the beginning of the woods, I transformed back into my human form and pulled my clothes on as well as my trainers. 10 minutes later, Avery's mind link me telling me he was home safe then I went into the house seeing it was 6:30 am. I took a shower and then went downstairs by 7:15 am for breakfast.

When I finished, Avery texted me that Emery agreed so I called Elina and made my way into my home office. She answered on the second ring and her voice sent shivers down my spine.

"Hello," She said sweetly

"Good Morning, it's Kaleb. How are you doing?" I asked her

"Oh Kaleb, hey. Uh, I'm doing well actually. I also got your email yesterday and I'm willing to start working Monday. Though in the documents, it says that you're my employer" She said to me. I smiled leaning back into my chair as I looked out the window into the woods.

"Yes I am the employer but you're in charge of the library now. Soon there will be other people asking for jobs there and you're gonna be doing the interviews. All you're gonna do is ask for my advice as well as my permission and the library is literally 4 stores down from my company building so I could come over whenever you feel you need a helping hand" I said to her. She cleared her throat and then laughed a bit.

"That's really generous of you Kaleb. Thank you again" She said to me.

"No problem. Anyway, I called to ask if you wanted to go out today, maybe spend the day together and get to know each other. Avery is coming as well and you could bring your daughter" I said to her

"Um, you wanna go out? With me?" She asked shocked

"Why do you make it sound like that?" I asked her.

"Usually guys never take interest in me because I have a kid. But I'm probably thinking too much into it since you said your friend is coming along. Where do you want to meet?" She asked.

"Listen, Elina, I'm not sure what you're used to but I think you're really beautiful and independent. I've only known you for almost 24 hours and I can tell you're an amazing person. Though I invited you out as friends, I wouldn't mind us dating further down the line. It's just that I don't want you to feel like I'm doing this out of sympathy or feel like you're obligated to do anything because I gave you a job. That's the reason I never hired you as my personal assistant because I know we would spark a relationship and I forbid in-house romance when it comes to working. So I'd really like to be friends until we can be more. If you're okay with that" I said to her. I heard a silent squeaking sound then she spoke again.

"U-um, sure. I would really like that. Where are we going and with who again?" She asked

"We're going with Avery and his love interest Emery. I'm not sure where he wanna go but it will be fun. May I ask what's your daughter's name?" I asked her

"Dominique. It may sound like a boy's name but I thought I was having a boy and the name sounds unisex to me so I chose it" She said to me.

"I think it's a nice name," I said to her smiling

"Okay, I'm kinda busy now. What time should I be ready?" She asked

"Preferably around noon. I'll pick you up by then" I said to her

"Okay, I'll see you then," She said to me.

We said our goodbyes and then hung up. I smiled leaning back into my chair looking out into the woods to see both Eli and Noah taking their clothes off then they both transformed into gray wolves then mind link me that they are gonna do their early morning patrol. I looked through a few pieces of paperwork then by 10:30 am, I went to get dressed and ready to go.
