2: Crossing the line

As Alexa and Nicole excused themselves from the rest of the guests and went upstairs, Miranda had already heard their conversation as she was serving the guests drinks. But any conversations involving Derrick, Miranda was equally alert. The top floor was off-limits. Derrick hated to be disturbed, and Miranda was well aware of this. But she also wanted to know what Alexa and Nicole were going to do on the top floor. Seeing how elegantly hot Alexa and Nicole looked in their beautiful dresses that swept the floor, Miranda was only jealous and wishing she wasn't a maid. Aside from being a maid, she had managed to gain some college education, but she couldn't resign her contract as a maid yet. Not when she admired the most handsome man on the planet. "Ouch! Watch where you're going?" A guest yelled at Miranda for stepping on her toes and also losing her grip as the tray went off from her hands and stained the guest's white dress. "How dare you, lowly being, stain my white dress? Do you know how much this outfit cost?" The guest was equally annoyed. She was a young woman like Miranda's size, and seeing that the celebrant wasn't interested in his own party to meet with the guests that had arrived, that had only fueled the guest's irritation. "I'm sorry," before Miranda could render her apology to the guest, the guest landed Miranda a hard slap on her left cheek. "You are not deserving to be a maid here! Get out!" The guest yelled, and her voice already turned the living room silent. The Lady of the house was equally shocked, and she chided the guest, "Melody, that's not how to treat your fellow lady. She only made a mistake and apologized to you while we were all here. Come, Miranda," Lady Loretta called Miranda back. "Show Melody to the room above. I think Nicole still has some spare clothes left in her room, before she left us and got married last year." "Okay, Ma. Come with me," Miranda said to the angry lady, who now looked happy to be taken upstairs for a change. While guards were standing guard around the mansion and also in the living room, the jubilation continued in the living room as Miranda went upstairs with Melody. Melody was happy to be away from the living room, and she asked Miranda, "Where's Master Derrick's room?" Miranda didn't want to be friends with the lady who had dared to molest her. The lady was equally fair-skinned like her. Miranda was naturally fair, even when she wasn't using any toning lotion to tone her skin. "Can't you speak?" Melody yelled at Miranda again, and Miranda wouldn't have all that insult in a whole day from the guest scolding her. "What do you need Master Derrick's room for? Are you here for the birthday party or you're here for the house master?" Miranda questioned the perplexed woman. "What? How dare you speak to me in such insolent manners? Have you lost it?" Melody charged at Miranda and wanted to attack her, as Miranda didn't even know which of the rooms belonged to Derrick or his sisters. The mansion was too vast, and the rooms above were too many to know which room was the Master's or his sister's room. However, just as the lady wanted to smack Miranda again, Derrick stepped out of his sitting room with his sister and Alexa as they came to check on him, just after he was through changing into a comfortable home wear. "What's going on here?" Derrick demanded, and Melody quickly withdrew her hand and offered Derrick a sweet smile. "Good evening, sir. Madam sent this maid to show me to one of her daughter's rooms, to have a change of my outfit after she dared to spill wine on me. But the maid is rude and she doesn't want to show me to the room." "Hmm, that's a total lie. She was asking me for your bedroom, sir," Miranda said. Silence immediately ensued the hallway. Much to Derrick's shock, Miranda's voice sounded so soft, and he hadn't heard anyone with such a soft tone before. He eyed the maid mysteriously as he hadn't seen her before. "That's not why you should attack our maid. When you're not the owner of the house. I saw you just now wanting to attack her. Leave here now. You are not welcomed, and your contract with Luis firm will be terminated as well." Derrick said, casually walking toward the staircase to go downstairs while Melody immediately went down on her knees and pleaded, "Please, Master Derrick. Forgive me. I didn't mean to attack the maid. She's lying, and I wasn't asking her for your room." With leisurely strides, Derrick paid no heed to the lady begging him. He went downstairs to thank all the guests who had taken out their time to honor his mother's invitation. After Derrick, his sister and Alexa left the top floor, the lady stood up and pounced on Miranda. She wanted to get her revenge on Miranda for making her lose her job and also, to lose her chances with the Master of the house. "You witch! How dare you ruin my chances with the house master? I am going to kill you today!" Melody screamed. She was not prepared. She didn't know that Miranda knew how to fight. As she rushed to attack Miranda, Miranda dodged the attack and kicked her very hard, and she pounced on the spoiled lady and started beating her. "Somebody help!!" Melody screamed out, after Miranda landed her multiple slaps in retaliation of the first slap that the lady had given to her. Miranda sat on the lady's stomach on the tiled floor and slapped the lady very hard on her face, also pulling the lady's wig off. However, with the music playing in the living room, and the bodyguards had already escorted Derrick downstairs to the grand hall, no one could hear Melody crying and screaming out. However, Miranda dealt with the lady, after she was through. She ran away and went into one of the rooms to have a cool evening bath. The birthday celebration had long ended, and Derrick had thanked all the guests that had taken out time to attend his 25th birthday party. "Baby brother, we have got to start going home now. Enjoy your night. I was thinking, why not ask Alexa out to be your girlfriend? She works beside you in the office, and she equally spends most of her days with you. Alexa is from a prestigious home here, and she will make a good wife for you," Nicole finally said to Derrick. Derrick frowned a little and replied, "I am not interested in relationships, and Alexa knows this. Except, she's the one requesting for you to speak to me about a relationship." "Not at all, Master Derrick," Alexa quickly replied as she didn't want to lose her job yet, especially when she saw Derrick's face twisted in irritation. "That's fine, sister. Let's call it a night. I have to go inside now and rest, then I will give your proposal a thought. Alexa Godwin is a wonderful woman, and I wouldn't mind to ask her out the proper way," Derrick said, as he put his hands into his trouser pocket and offered his elder sister a warm smile. He didn't want any of them worrying about him. "That's fine, baby brother. Good night too, bye," Nicole waved to Derrick as she got into her car and drove home to meet her husband. As she has a new baby at home, while Alexa nervously smiled and walked up to her sleek black car. Alexa pulled the black car door open and got inside, feeling Master Derrick's gaze on her, she then drove out of the opulent residence, too.
